Different number, same slime. Call-and-hang-up.  Certainly a scam - veterans deserve better!!!!!

Not the first time I got a call from these people. Different number this time, same spiel. The woman from the Southern California Wheelchair Veterans Association who called started off by saying they weren't asking for any money, then went on to talk about how, once a year, they have a BBQ at the Veteran's Hospital and for anyone in a wheelchair so they can get out into the sunshine, and what a great thing this is because they (our Veterans) are stuck in their rooms all year long. Instead of asking for donations, they are willing to send you trash bags on the "honor system", in return, you send them a check.

I couldn't find any useful information on any government sites or Charity Navigator. There's a website that's under construction (http://wheelchairveterans.org/), but a whois query shows that the names are obscured by a privacy proxy. All I've found are reviews on ripoffreport.com calling it a fraud, with some comments claiming this is a real organization.

I did find the 990 forms in the IRS data banks. http://ag.ca.gov/eri.php --listed as "Southern California Wheelchair".
