Hello,

I will need you to provide me with the following information to
facilitate the mailing of the check. It will be delivered by the
United Parcel Service within 2-3 days. Please note 'United Parcel
Service' do not deliver to P.O.Box addresses.

1.Name to be on the check
2.Home address or office address
3.Mobile #

I want you to understand that,I would have love to call but am a deaf

soon as you have cashed the check.

Regards,

Hello  ,

How you doing? I want you to understand that the deal is on,my
secretary as posted the payment promptly, but there was a little
problem which I guess we can handle with care while she just notified
me that the payment as been sent out to you,but instead of the actual
amount she made out the check for $XXXX she claimed that was what I
requested for but she didn't get me right.

The payment has already been posted before I was informed, I wouldn't
want this to delay the sale as I have just rectified it with my Bank.

All you have to do once you have the payment is to take it to your
Bank, have it cashed and deduct the money for your good plus an
additional $XXX for the stress,I have put you through during the
course of this transaction as well as for your running around.

The excess fund on the payment will then be wired to my mover via
Western Union that same day so that he can come for pick up as I
already plan on using the excess on the payment to offset the cost of
the various shipments they as undertaken on my behalf. Do let me know
if I can count on you to send the excess to my mover,am sorry for any
inconvenience this might have caused you. Thanks

Best Regards

I too was contacted by "Bill Wright" bill.bwright@gmail.com.  He also said that his secretary accidently sent a Certified Check for $2000 over the original amount. According to Bank of America they do not even do Certified Checks anymore.  Not sure if other banks do or not.
I am in Dallas and I called him on it and let him know GAME OVER and that I am ex law enforcement and that I was forwarding all his messages to law enforcement and media.

This guy is still at it.  It's the same email structure.  Bill Wright.  bill.bwright@gmail.com.  I guess the scam would have no reprecussions if you used a check cashing place rather than a bank....

By the way, I'm in San Diego and I just wonder how many places he's running this.

Me too, Same freaking guy. What tipped me off was when he never referred to what I was selling by name, but just as an "item". I called him out on it and other inconsistencies. I will be reporting this to Craigslist. I decided to look up the email address and glad I did bill.bwright@gmail was the crap he gave me. These folks are vultures. You have to be on guard at all times.

I got the similar emails as well. I was responding along with him, and I found he usually emailed me around 3am-4am WCT. So he is probably not in US. I was getting suspect when he said he found out his bank sent the check of $1,500 over my item of $100. Why would someone do that?

From: Brian Jmaes <brianj44@gmail.com>
To: me
Date: Thursday, June 4, 2009, 3:43 AM

Hello, How are you doing today?

I'd like to inform you that I contacted my bank to confirm if your
Check has been mailed out, I was made to understand that instead of
the actual amount for the item, the bank made out a check for $1,500.
The payment was already been posted before I was informed about this
but is a little problem which we can handle amicably. However, I have
rectified this with my Bank cause I wouldn't want this to delay the
sales, all you have to do is that, once you have the payment, do take
it to your Bank and have it cashed and you'll then deduct the money
for your goods and in addition a $100 (which is the cost of your
running around).

The excess fund on the payment will then be wired to my mover via
western union that same day, so that my mover can come for pick up as
I've already planned on using the excess Fund to offset the payment of
the previous shipments that has been undertaken on my behalf.

Do let me know if I can trust you to have the excess fund sent to my mover.

Thank you.

THE CHECK IS FAKE, IT WILL TAKE 2 WEEKS TO CLEAR, BUT IT LOOKS REAL AND YOUR BANK WILL CASH THE CHECK. AFTER 2 WEEKS YOUR BANK WILL NOTIFY YOU THAT THE CHECK IS FAKE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE BANK THE AMOUNT OF THE CHECK.

Hey, you probably figured out the scam by now?? This same guy tried to scam me too but I knew what he was doing from the beginning and I played along. Right now I have a lot of information on the person, including IP addresses, the bad check, multiple physical addresses, and I have spoken with authorities who are looking into this. If you want, you can send me some information about the deal you had and we can use that, along with the evidence I have to try and find this guy. Just post on here and I can give you my email address. Thanks

For those asking how this is a scam - when you get the certified (bad) check, you are asked to wire the "excess" money back to the "mover" (scammer) which is probably $2000 or so. You wire this amount back so the person actually gets that amount through the wire but then later, the "certified" check will bounce because it was a bad check, meanwhile the scammer has the money that you wired and you've got nothing...

This guy contacted me through craigslist and says he sent a check for $2000 in excess of the asking price. He used all 3 of the emails mentioned above and the same exact story. I wasn't going to fall for any of that BS. Little does he know, the information I gave him to send the check was for the San Diego District Attorney Chief Fraud Investigator, so the bad check will go straight to the authorities. Ha, we'll see how he likes that.

You are saying that this is a scam but you're not saying how this is a scam.  I didn't see these notes until I have already gone through.  They sent me $2000, and I wired $1700 to their "mover."  Can someone explain how this is a scam?

I also had a response from a Craigslist add from this person who also goes by Brian James. Details are almost identical to first persons comments. Happened to me too.  I never heard from him again when I said "cash and carry." I think this person goes by the name of Thomas Mason as well as Collins Coligas.  FYI...both emails looked extremely similar. They were mis-spelled, in lower case letters and did not use proper English.  The other email address is:tmason00000@gmail.com

Also, Thomas Mason says he had his bank write out the check for $3000 more than the item and could I be trusted to send him the difference for his driver who is picking up other items.  Ahhh...don't think so.

I was selling something on Craig's list and this guy, claiming to be deaf and wanting to send me a "draft" for the item I was selling.  Has to be some sort of scam. I haven't figured out what the scam is yet, but I know it's a scam.
