Can't stand these debt collectors. My Vonage line is listed in the phonebook with my UPS store address. They cross reference a partial address match and call me for any debt from anyone with this address "100 Main St". They do not bother to double check the name or unit number before they call me.

The callers, phone number research suggests the calls come from a phone in Long Island City, NY,  pretend to be from the IRS. The man with a middle eastern accent referred to himself as Officer Peter somebody, and that he was calling me on behalf of the IRS, to tell me that the IRS will sue me if I don't pay my taxes through their company. I reported the caller to the IRS, and the callers from Long Island City, NY continue to call my home. Do not fall prey to their lies. Report them, immediately!!!

Bill collectors.
Tip Off: They leave messages where they refer to your full name multiple times: "Raymond K Hessel"
Tip Off: They sound defeated in life and are very pissed off about it!
Tip: They'll leave a reference number or a name like "David Fisher" who doesn't exist, if you call back and reference either, it's a code for "I owe money, please bully' me!" They'll mark the caller ID and they will "keep calling, keep calling, keep calling" your number until "you go, you go, you go... Or more like "pay"
Tip: If you do answer, give them a different name or refuse to give one at all, they will insist you are you and provoke you to admit it.
My 2 cents (which they can't have): They may get pretty nasty, but hey, only Al Bundy went to debters prison and you can't get blood from a stone. Suck it "Mr Fisher!"

Got a call from someone named Latoya Gardner trying to reach someone that wasn't me with a reference number and to call the number 1-800-925-9018, ext. 63678.  Did some searching and it looks to be some kind of collection agency or scam.

I got the same type of call, except they gave a different amount. I also told her I have no such credit card. And then she asked me if she had my birthday and billing address correct, to which I responded "Not even CLOSE!".

They've called twice in 6 days and have never left a message. I pay all my bills on time so if it's a debt collector they're full of crap. In fact, I just paid off my student loan yesterday so if anything my credit is in good standing.

WhistleslSo I get a call from my sister , saying this piece of s*** company is looking for my wife  whom doesn't owe anything to any Citibank or any CC for that matter. I'm the one who pays all the bills so I know what goes out. Glad I did a Google search on this place and found this forum. The # ended with a 6081 when they called. My sister will pass my number so they stop bugging her . I know how to deal with them when they call trying to pull a scam.A whistle in the ear!!!!

These companies use peoplefinder.com which lists possible relatives and associates and their phone numbers. She didn't use you as a reference,  the scum bag scammers just somehow found out she owes someone money(not them of.course) and want to get ahold of her before she pays the real debt. They then offer her a deal on her debt, take her credit card number and payment and she still owes the money because the debt collector was a scam.

This number called my phone today asking for my stepson's wife.  His dad and I are divorced, have been in contact a few times over the years.  I don't know if this is legit or what but I don't like the fact if she used my name as a reference.  We never got along that great.  If they keep calling I will get ahold of my stepson to see if he knows anything.  Don't want to cause trouble but they shouldn't be calling here!!

Everyone receiving these messages should contact FCC.  They have been calling me for two years and I called them back and after three extensions I was told my number was given to them as a reference. I was told I did not  know these people and they said they would remove my number. So I contacted FCC.

I do not trust these guys. Caller identifies as someone from United Credit Bureau. Leaves message mispronouncing my last name and saying that by listening to their message I'm verifying I'm the person they're looking for. Then they reference a number that doesn't match any account I have, leave no hint as to WHO they are calling for (they don't say what company, give a monetary amount, or anything) then tell me to call back.

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a debt collector can call you as their first contact but they have to send written followup in five days -- what the collector says on the phone is not legally binding, and collection agencies don't want you to know that. Also, it's in THEIR interest if you call them because they can use it to "verify" that you initiated the conversation, and that you called knowing you owed money. Don't call them back, it is not in your best interest.

This place has been leaving messages for two weeks wanting me to call them back over a debt they will not identify, and I haven't received a letter, so I am inclined to think they're a scam, or at least less than trustworthy.

My credit score is awful because of some emergency room bills that my hospital sold to a credit card company (which I didn't even know was legal, but it is) and I get a lot of letters from places promising to "fix my credit score" -- these places know exactly how much the hospital bill debt is, down to the penny, because they ran credit checks on me without permission. I would not be surprised if United Credit Bureau had done the same, found out I have a bad credit score and are calling hoping to scare me into paying them money I don't owe them.

They asked for my GF's daughter by name.  I took a message from Mrs. Anderson for the daughter to call back.  The caller ID showed UBC as the caller.  I asked Mrs. Anderson who was calling and she also said UBC.  After seeing many of the comments, I'm sorry I talked to her at all.  We'll have to get this off our backs.

Received the same call, asking me to relay a message to someone in another STATE! wtf!

I too have my # on the national DO NOT CALL list...BUT unfortunately there's a small twist to having your # on that list. As I found out after the fact.
IF you read the fine...very fine print. The GOV. sell those DO NOT CALL list, (x mount of #s per page and they're allowed x amount of pages to buy) to telemarketers...so therefore, the GOV is profiting off that do not call list!

So if you ever change your #. Do NOT put it on the do not call list. If you do....then you'll see an influx of calls!!

And IF you want to block those calls/texts.  Go online to your cell provider account. And put the #'s in as BLOCKING.  Sprint allows it.

These people are the debt collectors from Citibank. I'm currently making payments to them on a card i let get too far past due. I checked with citibank who verified UCB is the collector they gave it to. I'm on a payment plan with them, haven't missed a payment in almost a year, and they still hound me, calling anywhere from 3-10 times a week. Very frustrating.
