Some guy, who can't even pronounce his own name called on our magic jack phone number to inform us of a very important message from American Express.   here is the reality, there is nothing important from AMEX, nor is American express relevant in today's economy.  As a business owner if is becoming less frequent that we see clients with AMEX cards, and when they do, we kindly ask them for another card, When we tell them the story about AMEX, and their business practices they are more than eager to pay with another card.   We offer $1 off if they cut up there AMEX card in the store, we provide the scissors....

Just received a call from this number; I didn't pick up.  They didn't leave a message.  But it's the 3rd call I've received in two days, all different numbers, all apparently having something to do with American Express.

I do have an AMEX card, but don't have a balance.  I'm on the Do-Not-Call list; does this not mean anything??

Its American Express calling about a past due charge account you had with them. They are a bit different then most credit card companies where they don't ask for your Information first unlike American Express.
You need to be aggressive with them to remove you off the calling list. Do not call registry does not block debt collectors from calling but you can report the caller to their Supervisor or higher up.

American Express, the collection agency used by American Express. This agency has numerous numbers available to them that they can call from, and part of their usual tactics include calling all of your phone numbers they have on file and then hanging up, this usually several times a day,  from different numbers. (Don't give your cc company any more of your phone numbers. Don't call your cc company from any other phones except what they already have on file.)

Ah, don't trust the caller ID name, they know how to "spoof" the name that shows and commonly do it. (FYI, the caller ID phone number can be spoofed as well.)

If they stay on the line, it's usually to get you to call AmEx for an important matter (collection). Don't call the number they give you, never trust a calling person to give you the numbers for account problems or resolutions, instead look up AmEx number (it's on the card) and call them...

Point is, you never know if it's just a nasty old collection agency, or a *hacker* trying to get personal info. NEVER discuss account issues with people who call you. If you need to discuss account issues, YOU should instead be the one calling, using the phone number your cc company provides in your invoices or on your card as the number to call.

Left a message that was very quick and I could not make out over half of it.  I heard "very important business matter" "American Express" and an 800 number...

I get calls from this number on my cell phone. I do not have an american express card.  what do they want from me... they call all the time.

Most likely a scam.  Wanted my SSN and/or Amex Card Number.   Called my daughters phone.
