"The calls started yesterday. We had 3 calls and each time we answered, there was no response, just dead air. Caller ID says "Citigroup Global." This morning, we got a call from 866-680-8628. The name came through as "Not Available." It was a robo-call asking to speak with my husband concerning "a change to the status of his account." I took down the message and immediately called him at work to give him the message. He called the number and was asked for his account number. He thought it was suspicious and hung up. He then called the number on the back of his Citi card. The rep confirmed that Citibank has department called "Citi Client First," but she could not see any notes in his file indicating any reason why he would have been called. She emphasized that they WOULD NEVER ask for your account number without verifying other information first."

This is definitely from citibank about credit card payments being late. I just spoke with them because my auto pay wasn't going thru from my bank acct. It's real not a fraud. I called the number and someone answered verified all info and straighten everything out. Even called the 1800 citi credit card number they verified same thing. So it's legit to warn u that u late on payments.

if i am the ones working for citibank, i will not even tell you those information. i will think first of what's good for my clients. i will not be sure either if you are really the card holder. or someone who just want our client's info and commit fraud transactions.=) i know a friend working for citi. to make sure that they are really from citi, why not ask questions that will not hurt you if its known to others. like, previous charges made on your account, details of your latest statement, your payment history, review of calls previously made. if the caller is legitimate citi employee, he/she can definitely answer those questions. they may know your whole SSN, your full account numbers, your checking account info you used in making previous payments, but they definitely want to protect their card holders as well. if you own a citicard, you would not want anyone to just give out your info to others.

These guys r trying to get your bank account number, credit card number, or any other personal info to rob you. If they call you next time ask them whats your full Social Security number,  full debt card number, and your full address that they have on your file. If they are really the officials, they will give all your info. But they are not actual citigroup employees. So be careful! Do not give them any of your info

this was from citibank.  i do have an account with them.  they did not receive my monthly payment.  i called them and made a payment over the phone.  they waived the phone fee and promised to protect my promotional interest rate.  if they had not called, i would have not known my payment never made it.  i do recommend speaking with a manager, b/c the managers have the power to waive your fee and protect your promotions - the inital phone people do not.  everyone i spoke to was v nice.

I have posted this on other boards. I called citibank fraud department and ATT. They are using a Texas area code 972, ATT traced the call from my phone to a Verizon land line number in the Seattle area. Verizon will do nothing, they tell me to block there number. They should just disconnect the number.

ANYONE GETTING bill Collector calls on their cell phone TRY THIS:
I managed to set everything on my cell phone to silent - set default to "no ring" include set to no sound on everything.  No Whoop sound when you missed a call, no sound telling you a message was left etc.

Then go into your contact list and set up a ring for everyone you want to reach you.  This way it is just friends calling you with no rings for bill collectors or any number that you have not preapproved.

Also save all of these unwanted numbers in your contacts list but put a Z in front of their name.  This way you can see who is calling.  Sometimes i pick up my phone and it will say 35 missed calls because they have computers that call you over and over.  Now I don't even know they called until I look at my screen.  For those companies that call from a lot of diff. numbers you can put the additional ones down as home, mobile 1 mobile 2 etc so you don't have so many contacts listed.

I have so many that I was going to buy a new phone and only give the no out to friends and fanily because of the rings ans chirps that were annoying especially when you sre with oeople that wonder why you don't answer your phone. Being able to keep your old no helps also because if you do not have a valid phone no, according to the law, they can start doing stuff like calling your neighbors because you would come under the "skip trace" rulings.  They are not supposed to do things like calling your neighbors, boss etc as long as you have a valid phone no.  Good Luck all and Merry Christmas.

This is not fraud--it is a debt collector for Citibank--they quite frequently use outside companies, or callers at least, to call people and have them pay their bills. You do not need to give them your info, you just need to pay the bill and the account won't be flagged to them anymore. If you don't have a Citibank account, or are up to date on all payments, you should call Citibank and confirm so that you don't have possible identify theft somewhere.

If in fact 972-655-5210 is a debt collector - they display the name Citigroup (the parent company of Citibank and Citi Cards), who collects debts for other entities as well, a cease-and-disist letter may be mailed or faxed (but not called nor emailed to the entity for whom they are collecting or to their corporate offices in New York), pursuant to federal law - the Federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, and they are legally required to stop the calling.  I made such a demand, but my house got called twice, today, Sunday, and I expect that they will call agan - as early as 8 am in the morning, and I will find out if they are deliberately violating federal law, which carries up to $1,000 per incident fine.

Apparently I was mistaken.

I got a call again and this time, someone actually spoke and explained that I was late on my payment.

It was my fault, i appreciate citi cards for checking to see if everything was alright since I never missed a payment before.

my apologies citi card for the previous comment. i take it back.
