Someone called and a woman with an accent mentioned something about my credit card. I don't have a credit card. I just hung up, i figured it was a scam.

The call I recieved was the recording in a british accent, and then a man who sounded like he had marbles in his mouth. When I told him it was none of his concern how much I owed in CC bills, he asked if I was interested in lowering my interest rate, but couldn't tell me which card we were talking about. Finally I heard him say, "there is no point" and he hung up.

a couple days ago i got a call from 973-659-7326 telling me basically the same thing (lowering credit rates) but told me to press 9 to be connected. I was connected with a man who asked if i pressed 9 to lower my credit rates. i said "i pressed 9 to talk to a human..." and he immediately hung up on me! i was definitely upset!
i seem to be getting a lot more of these calls recently.

Even if you are not on the Do Not Call registry, you can file a complaint because it was a recorded message. If you want these calls to stop, start filing!

Got a call from a british woman recording about lowering my credit card rates. I'm on the do not call registry. I have been getting many calls lately, I only answer it to tell them to stop calling but half the time it doesn't work. I'll be complaining AGAIN to the do not call registry list!

My advice is to make a record of the caller ID, phone #, and day and time of the call and then go to your state's Attorney General's website and report it there. If enough people do this, something CAN get done about the abuse.
lori 2010-03-16 20:09:27 Unknown
rec'd called while on another call, didn't recognize # so i googled and here i am!
jp 2010-03-15 23:02:16 Unknown
Same deal. Got a call from 973-659-7326, deal on lowering my credit card rate or to cancel card. Good try, but did not give a card name. Do they really think people are that dumb. Just hang up and report the number to the FCC and your States Attny General's Office.

I got phone call from this number with british accent and when asked to remove from the calling list; the person hung up. Why can the government not track this phone # and get this to shut down? The call is coming from Dover Delaware. Please someone take care of this

Received this same call AGAIN today on my cell phone. Recorded message so I couldn't yell at anyone. I receive a call from this number approx. once a month. Each and every time I submit a complaint to www.donotcall.gov. The calls continue. If anyone has any other ideas what to do with these jokers, please let me know. I wish I could meet them face to face. It wouldn't be pretty.

Frank,
I wasn't aware of that call-blocking service. I'll check my phone service to see what they have. I'll bet they charge a lot for that service, though. After all, if you're no longer paying minutes for scam calls, the phone company loses a bit of profit.
Daydreamin' 2010-03-15 19:17:07 Unknown
We can block unwanted e-mails two simple ways: by placing the addresses on a blacklist that we identify as spam, or by placing on a white list only those address from which we wish to receive e-mail. How hard can it be for the telephone companies to provide a way to white list or blacklist telephone numbers? It is very easy, indeed! But they won't do it, because all the spam calls we receive represent profit to the telephone companies.
Law enforcement will take no action because they find that no crime has been committed. Nor do they have any interest in pursuing those scumbags because they have more important (to them) things to do.
What we need is a way to track those callers down and have citizen justice applied by brute force, maybe just poke their eyes out, cut out their tongues, and chop off their fingers. Maybe chain them to a cellar wall and have telephone rings blasting them 24/7 until they succumb to madness. Unfortunately, that's when law enforcement WILL take an interest, but it doesn't stop me from daydreaming about taking revenge on them. We will be so lucky only that those scumbuckets die natural or accidental deaths.

I have ComCast Digital Phone Service. One of the features with this service is; "call blocking". So, I entered the number we have been getting, hope that is the end of it!
