Just got the message from Jessica Thompson from State Investigation "Your payment is pending against the outstanding loan and your case number is ###########." We want to know when you are going to make this payment against this payday loan this is the last notification from the Associated Court Services or else BENCH WARRANT would be generated against you. So what are you willing to do regarding this case?"
Of course there is no phone number just a number you can text to. I sent back what the@#$%& are you talking about?
Reply was "LEGAL NOTICE: THIS IS JESSICA THOMPSON FROM STATE INVESTIGATION this is about an Internet Payday loan which you took and never paid back. So a case has been filed against and a warrant has been issued over your name. So you have got two options. First you can settle this case by paying back the amount. Second, you can fight it for yourself in the Court House.
I called my cell phone provider and then looked this up on internet

I'm so glad that I saw your message and everyone else's message on this site. I, too, just got a text from Robin Smith in all capital letters stating that I owed $550 for a payday loan. I never even heard of the company let alone have any payday loans.

I just received the same kind of tex, in capital letters from a Robin Smith. Same thing about a bench warrant. Since you are an investigator, who are these people. The number is 16365732355. They have left a message at my office. I saved it. This has got to be a scam. Anyone can confirm it will be appreciated.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I also received a text message from Robin Smith. She claim to be working with a state investigation. First she told me I owed a payday loan for $300 and the next day she said $550. I asked her what courthouse my case was in she would never tell me. Never would give me the information or telephone number. She wanted me to pay with green dot money card.

As most of you, I received the same message from Steve Clarke, all in caps threatening bench warrant, final notice, etc. etc. etc. Interesting thing, there is a State Investigation firm in North Carolina. Since I am a licensed investigator, I will pursue this, in addition to filing the necessary complaints. If there is any other information available, please provide it.
Thanks
Dan

debt collectors can't not threaten you with ANY legal action much less a bench warrent. This is a scam that is going around.
| Mad inMO 2013-11-30 21:27:48 Debt Collector |
These are scammers. Its illegal for a debt collector to contact you via text message. Save the number they called you from and contact your state AG office.

I received a text message from this phone number. The text was from "Robin Smith" which she wrote in all caps. She said she was from the state investigation and I had a payment pending. I have no idea what payment, how much or anything (because I don't owe any payday loan company any money). She informed me that if I did not make said payment I would be receiving a bench (typed in call caps) warrant. She gave me a fake file number and in closing asked what I was going to do. None of her sentences began with capital letters.
