I have received several of these calls purporting to be from Microsoft of Windows. The first time thanked her and said I would get of checked locally then hung IP. She called back immediately and said "Die in Jell you bloody bi***!". The last guy didn't seem to remember what to say. O have Jiang up on them; said. I would ask Tech support and sworn I don't have a computer. They are not just scammers they are stupid!

This scam has been around a LONG time, and is pretty annoying.  Every few weeks they change out the spoofed call numbers, and so they have to be re-blocked.  These folks are criminal slime, who sometimes call VERY late at night.

Prank Call
I have received at least a dozen of these calls.  I have been having fun messing with them.  The first time I let them go through their script.  When I mentioned I was a sys admin and taught computer security, they had no idea what I was talking about and kept insisting I had a virus.  Eventually they just hung up when I said they were idiots and I wasn't going to either allow them into my computer or pay them for anything.
Another time they called, I asked them how they obtained an unlisted telephone number that is never given out.  They said it was attached to my OS ID.  I laughed so hard at that one.  So I asked what company they were from.  They said Windows Security.  I said that was interesting.  I work for Microsoft and we never have heard of you.  I asked for their phone number. and address for her company, she got nervous like a duck in the desert and hung up.
I just keep changing my script for each call so that they waste their time and or freak out.  Each call is on a different spoofed number, so I keep blocking them, but they keep calling.

Just got this call at 10:35pm PT, from the 989 683 2639. We asked for his manager's alias (we're both MS... ) He didn't like that and hung up. I recommend we all do that. :)

Dear I forget your name. I'm not stupid. It's a joke precisely because it is toothless and places the onus of "enforcement" on the victim. If you want to spend all day following your own worthy advice, good for you. Having spent several hours reporting one of these bums one day, to no known avail. I realized that I have better things to do.

The people who can me always give "American" names (Steve, Linda, etc.) with a very foreign accent.  They say they are calling as they have found a problem with my windows computer and want to help fix it.  Never mind that we use macs and tablets only in my house.  I don't know how to make this stop!  I an pretty sure that are trying to scam people for money, I'm concerned older people don't know it's fake.

You are absolutely right. The numbers are all forged and are numbers not in service at the time of the call. Tonight, 11.30 MT, I got a call purportedly from  989-683-2639. I gave the man a piece of my mind and went so far as to insult him and his integrity. He said he was going to  blacklist my number. Yeah, if only!

These kinds of criminal activities go to prove that they are not all locked up - yet!  With what we pay for telephone service we ought to be able to be free from such nuisances.

Ah, well, eh?

Calls from this and other numbers claiming to be MS Windows experts are always, in my case, callers with sub-continental Indian accents.  I tweak their noses and tie knots in their tales but tell them nothing personal. They hang up. They come back.

Surely the telephonic bureau, the  FCC, should be able to find ways to intercept these faked numbers and track the criminals that want to steal from us and take them off to places where telephone access is limited.

They are economic terrorists that could do with a visit from a drone if no other remedy is available.

I have had numerous calls from a 989 area code.  These are among them:  989-683-2639, 989-729-6833, 989-683-1111, 989-696-1012 and 989-696-5248.  With my caller ID, I do not answer unrecognizable numbers and let them go to my phone's answering system.  No message is ever left.  I have blocked 2 of them on my phone.  From what I read from other postings, this is primarily a scam (probably originating off-shore) to "fix" your Windows computer.  Do not answer them.

Dear  DNClistIsAJoke,

Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities.  You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws.  The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone..  You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Report your callers here:

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1

https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

And here are the links to read and understand what the DNC's are, what they do and what they do not.

Just got this call and he was reading off information about my computer to me that he shouldn't have had. I talked and performed the 1st two tasks that he asked me to do (because it was only computer information checking), then he told me to download a program where they could access my computer from their place and wipe my viruses out from their remote location.. DEFINITELY a fraud. I hung up the phone at that point, and then they called back 4-5 times in the next 5 minutes because I hung up without saying anything.

Darn! I keep missing these people, mostly because they insist on calling late at night or slightly before the crack of dawn. Why "darn"? Because I have a script all ready for them that ends with a request for SSN and mother's maiden name. I know it won't do any good, but I just want to tick them off even a little for ticking so many of us off such a lot. And who knows how many millions of dollars they've already scammed from the unsuspecting? How do they live with themselves?

And can we please have a category below for "Scum-sucking bottom feeder"?

I used to let these people irritate me to no end, but I purchased a couple of panasonic cordless phones that have a call block feature built in. Each phone blocks 30 numbers so I should have plenty of space for these unsavory characters. That should slow down the calls, at least until they spoof new numbers, then I will block them too. Now I have the last laugh.

They called and told me that they were getting messages that my computer was sending out viruses.   I got a different name for the company every time that I asked what their company name was.   Also, they told me that they were in UK, London.

He said that they could tell that my computer and my router needed to be fixed and that he could talk me through it on the phone and asked me to turn on my computer.   This was a definite phishing scam.

They called and went through the whole Microsoft spiel (see above posts). I talked for a while and then told them that I don't have a PC, I have a MAC. they said, "Oh, did I say, PC? I meant MAC." I hung up. This is about the 5th call I have had with this scam. If I'm in the mood I play with them. If not, I hang up.

Made the mistake of answering this call. Said they were from Microsoft and my emails were infecting my computer with a Trojan virus. When I said we were ok, he used vulgar language, telling me what I could do to myself, and hung up.

I also got a call from this number saying that they have a Microsoft report that shows that my Windows PC is infected. I knew it was a con, so told him i want home and I asked for a number where I could call them back. Hee was very pushy,  telling me they could fix my PC through my cell phone. He even put another person to talk to me. I told them they would have too call back when I'm home.  They call at least once a day. I new don't answer.  After reading reading the comments here, confirming my suspicions,  I will block the number.

THIS IS A FRAUD. We just hung up the phone on them (they called at 11 pm PST) and found your posting.  A couple of months ago I got a disc with Microsoft logos etc. saying it was the replacement/update because I didn't have legitimate software.  I got charged $214 on my credit card.  All nonsense.  So PLEASE watch your credit card for fake "Microsoft" charges.  I am going to report this to my credit card company and Microsoft.  It seems they are offshore and using a phone connection in MI.  I would encourage everyone else to report so they can see how big the problem is now.  I hope this helps.  Many blessings!  Namaste and have a nice day!

I have also received a late night call from this phone number. As soon as the female told me her name is Susan, with a deep Indian or some other eastern accent, I realized the call was a deception to get personal and private information. I told ?Susan? that I could not understand what she was telling me and she handed the phone to the next person who also had a deep eastern accent. They both told me they were calling from Microsoft and that my computer is telling Microsoft that it is infected with a virus and they need to access my computer to clear the virus. I tried calling this number back after I hung up on them and got a message that the number was no longer in service.

Be aware that the reason they call at the late hour is to catch you sleepy and groggy and more apt to give out information you normally would not give them just to get them to go away.
