As others have pointed out, I have received several calls from this number and others all pretending to be from MikeySoft. All claiming to be informing me of a Virus/ malware that was downloaded to a computer I am using / have. All of the people speaking are from 3rd World countries whose ESL needs a lot of work! The Latest was last night at midnight PDT. Caller ID showed "ROOT S" number 1 989 729 6833: I answered as I was watching TV (more news about the BS in IRAQ (thank you DuBa DuBa "idiot" George BUSH) So the female voice was going on about being from MS and something about a computer that is downloading a Virus Blah Blah etc. But she was focused upon a laptop sending DATA to them... when I said I don't have a Laptop she went to a notebook, when I said I don't have a notebook, she asked about a tablet...you can see where this is going (definitely a script kiddy)! SO being some what of an IT Nerd (10 years email & malware scams plus 30 years computer networking experience) I play along and thank them for the call about notifying me asked if these conditions could exist on other computers. Which She would agree they did as they (caller) ASSUME that the only computers in the world are Microsoft OS based.(sorry B Gates Not Yet and never will). I am sure their Script has no mention of Unix or BSD based operating systems. (Linux and OSX).....So this get them nowhere.. and they hang up...as I am sure they pay something for making this call..... but for more fun the next time I get this call I think I will role play this as a different individual say some secret agency and some undisclosed location...see where this goes...The Sad thing is from my experience that about 10% of the population gets fooled by these scammers every year ... so if we have a population of 317 million and 10% get fooled that they collect $100 on average from each of these scammed individuals, thats about 310 million buckaroos and these script kiddies get next to nothing . this is not a "slumdog millionaire story" more like a pyramid scheme which means some Fat Cat somewhere is smoking Cuban Cigars and drinking French wine....cause he is at the top of the pyramid!!!!! As Mrs Reagan once said... "Just Say No" To these peddlers amongst other things....
One last thing Support the Second Amendment .. you may need it some day!

Call at 7:17 this morning. Did not recognize number, caller ID looked hinky, so didn't pick up. Now I know who they are (thanks, guys), I'm quite disappointed. I've had these kind of scam calls before, but from a different number, and I have developed a script that ends with my asking for the caller's social security number (assuming s/he claims to be located in the US; I mean, I don't want to be silly, do I?).

6/08 22:53 PDT Tried to call nearly 11 PM Sunday night. Although rang thru to voicemail, no actual message left. Hate these late night calls from unidentified callers. Thought it was illegal to call after 9 PM, but obviously means nothing. Have blocked this number, so they will probably try again, as in the past from another 989 number. Why can't these menaces not be closed down? Reporting to FCC and FTC accomplishes nothing. Crooks and scammers all.

Called at 7:03 a.m. this morning. I let it go to voice mail. No message left. Will block that number from future calls.

I get a phone call every week at 10:30 p.m. from the same number. The first time I told him not to call and accused him of scamming. I hung up. Got another call from him at 10:25 p.m. and when I answered and was ready to tell him off, he hung up. How do we stop these annoying calls, especially late at night?

Received this call an hour ago. I've had it before so decided to have some fun with the guy. I acted astonished that my computer was having problems. He assured me that it was ("I'm from Microsoft and your computer is sending us data"). I asked what I could do. He asked me to hit the Windows key + R. I couldn't find the "window" key. He insisted it was right there near the space bar. I then asked why an Apple computer would have a Windows key on its keyboard. He acted like I hurt his feelings and hung up on me.

This is a area code that I am familiar with and the call came early in the morning so I thought a friend was in trouble. It was an oriental sounding man and he pronounced my last name wrong. I asked him his name and he said he was calling about my computer, he knew I had windows. I told him I had nothing to say to him and hung up.

Called me at 7:00 am saying they were from Microsoft and receiving error reports from my computer and virus was infecting computer and router. I was half asleep. Get in front of your computer and read license # to him and told him i did not trust his call. Type in blah blah and read event log blah blah. Supposedly switched me to tech support and she wanted me to download remote assistance. I did not. Told her i did not trust her and she got very rude and beligerant and said my computer would crash or get hacked. I told her i thought maybe she was a hacker and she said hackers don't call you and i said i think maybe they do. To point out errors was free but to fix them would cost. She kept talkimg over me and bullying me so i told her i would call Dell and have them fix it for me and hung up. Funny thing, she did not call me back. Scam.

Called me last night at 11:45PM. I told him that he woke me up and he replied he didn't care. I was to get up, go over to my computer and do as he said. What a scam.

Received a MISSED call from 989-729-6833 on June 5, 2014 @1:24 p.m.
Decided to look it up online and THANK GOD I did with the scam that is going around.
I need to tell family and friends about these losers.
I tried to call the number back, and it says.....Welcome to Verizon. Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and dial again.
Certainly these people can be caught since they are from Michigan someplace!
Thank you!

Just received ANOTHER call from this guy at 8am. He is getting very beligerant and actually screamed "you liar" when trying to confirm my name. He keeps calling me by a name I've never heard before, yet when I ask his name he starts speaking another language. Needless to say I contacted the FBI Tipline and Microsoft, so hopefully they'll catch this CREEP!!!

I got a call last night from this number. He claimed that he was from Microsoft and that I had downloaded malware onto my computer. He asked me to hit "Windows" "R" and type in "EVENTVWR." This was enough to Google which made it clear that I was speaking to a scammer. I told him that he was a scammer and hung up.

Scammers. This company has been pulling this scam under several names for several years. They call and say they work with Microsoft and they've detected viruses on your computer. To verify they tell you the CLSID of your machine (every microsoft computer has the same ID). Then they try to run remote access to load some freeware to your machine and try to get you to pay $175.00 for their service.
If you want to have som fun call Mavenindia.org (the "holding company") at 510-962-4561 (it will route to calcutta, India but you will only be charged the fee for California.) Ask for Mr. Mayur Agarwal and inquire why they continue to scam American Citizens. I've been having fun with it all day after my parents actually fell for the scam. Once he realized I had his name and home address he freaked out a bit and finally told me the list of freeware they load to a typical machine. It should be harmless but I wouldn't doubt they have will move on to trojans or trying to grab online login info.

The woman from this number tried to obtain passwords from my elderly mother.

He called me at 10PM last night. He kept asking me to write a number he was giving me. It was supposed to be a "Customer License" number only he and I had access to. He told me my computer was sending him "errors and warnings." Eventually I hung up.

Same deal here. Supposed problem with my (non-existent) Windows computer. Obvious phishing for personal information, or attempt to get me to use my web browser to download malware/virus.

I got a call from Mack saying that he was from Microsoft. When I asked how he got my number, he said that he got it when I bought my computer. So I asked him how he knew I had a computer. He again said he knew from when I bought a computer. I then told him that I have two computers in the house but I didn't buy them because they are work computers. He obviously had an East Indian accent and proceeded to speak. I cut him off and asked what his next lie would be. He proceeded to stumble over his words and I hung up.

Claims he is from Microsoft. Tells me they keep getting virus alerts from my computer. This is clearly a scam. I hung up on him.

Keeps calling telling me I have a virus on my computer. Asked a few questions and he hangs up. Very annoying. He said he was from windows.
