I found how to get rid of this caller - American Institute for Cancer Research. The calls are placed by InfoCision. Contact the Better Business Bureau, Wise Gift Alliance Department, in Washington, D.C. (area code 202) and file a complaint. Explain in detail what is going on, including asking to be taken off the calling list and all telephone numbers used (I know of six). The BBB will then contact AICR and in a week or so you will receive an e-mail telling you that your number has been removed from their calling list. You might also want to read an article about them at http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-09-12/char ... lemarketer.html.

Looking on the charitynavigator.org website, I see that, though this American Institute for Cancer Research, along with the National Foundation for Cancer Research, are registered as authentic charities, the reality is that the amounts of income they give to cancer research are minimal, and the amounts that are expended for administrative costs, "educational materials" (which is a code term with these types of organizations for materials they send out with the intention of raising funds but that have generic pseudo-educational messages on them, such as "get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of fluids, reduce consumption of salt, fat, and sugar, get plenty of exercise, blah, blah, blah"), and what they call "fund raising," which probably relates more directly to what they pay companies that run phone solicitations for them for their services. Check out the following site for worthy organizations of various kinds whenever you have a question about them or want more information than their materials give you: http://www.charitywatch.org/index.html Don't be scammed by the AICR or the NFCR or other similar organizations!

"Amer Inst".....I must hold the record for calls received from this number! Over time, they've wanted my opinion on the Presidential election, wanted a donation to the American Inst. for Cancer Research, offered me a 'lower' interest rate on my credit cards, and lastly, threatened my wife with legal action on a debt (nope, she doesn't have any) unless she pressed '1' to be connected with one of their 'mediators'. There's gotta be a few more I've forgotten about. DON'T send any money to these sleazy *ssholes! You'll only be enriching the owners of this boiler room operation!

While I don't answer their calls (I have caller ID), AICR does receive a positive rating from the BBB.

I called the 800 number as suggested above. I started getting these calls, almost every day and sometimes twice a day, shortly after making a contribution to the American Cancer Society. The man I spoke with said my number would be removed.
JSwei 2012-09-04 13:39:07 Unknown
I just received another call at 8 AM and I decided enough is enough. I am getting at least one call per day and often two.
I called the 800-843-8114 number suggested by Bri and they were very nice and said my number would be removed from their list but it may take up to 48 hours.
Let's see what happens.

This phone number was suppose to be from the American Cancer Institute calling about "helping out send out materials for them" so you can use your postage and neighbors to get them donations. However the caller indicated that she was actually from Infosys, an Indian outsourcer, doing work for the American Cancer Institute. Obviously the ACI has money to pay the outsourcer, so why do they need donations? And this was the third call of the day, and I only got a person after answering the third time, and asking over and over again why are you calling and hanging up? It appeared that the Infosys wasn't using a good auto calling system, one that didn't hang up on you after you answered, unless you stayed around for a while. These charity callers wouldn't get any money or support from me, from their call or in the future.

I have had calls from this number everyday for the last few months. I even have answered and there is never a person on the other end. In fact, the caller hangs up every time.
d sophia 2012-08-28 14:30:15 Unknown
It's anonymous on my called ID too. I pick up and immediately hang up, just to keep the phone from ringing more. The no call list isn't working. When I get political calls (mostly recorded messages) I look for their website and contact them saying their calls are unwanted and I've put them on my "no vote" list".
bunny 2012-08-25 01:40:58 Unknown
Am getting calls from 202-607-2927 and caller is listed as Anonymous. This is very annoying.
Billy 2012-08-22 16:03:25 Unknown
There's no point in asking to be removed. They'll just call back from
another of their long list of numbers. Caller ID will range from "anonymous",
to AICR, to Amercan Inst to Cancer Research, etc., or some variation.
The harassment won't stop because non-profits are exempt from DNC, i.e.,
the Do Not Call Registry.

Repeted calls from this number sometimes twice a day.
Ron 2012-08-18 17:37:34 Unknown
This is one of three numbers used by "American Inst Cancer". Area code (202) 870-5859, and (202) 643-1991 are the others. I never answer and they never leave a message. This suspected SCAM is a royal pain in my backside.

Why would they call at almost 9pm on a Friday night? Who wants to be charitable at the end of a long work week?
Jan 2012-08-03 21:29:54 Unknown
I just got a call from a known spammer in this area code about twice in the last week. First time in a long time. I don't buy these guys' creds. Reported them to the FTC also (have them on speed dial). Too much coincidence for me. Asked them to use the mails.
Jill 2012-08-01 20:03:01 Unknown
My phone co. will block 6 numbers. Problem is, they will only block calls coming from my area code. Maybe that's why the scammers enter an out of state phone number to appear in your caller ID.
Trent 2012-08-01 19:56:28 Unknown
This number has been calling for 2 months. I don't answer any out of state calls unless, I know who the caller is. That's because these scammers all call from out of state. I hear they can enter any state they want to appear in your caller ID, and might be calling from your own town.
If this outfit qualifies under charity status, they don't have to abide by the NO CALL lists. Same with political calls. These types of charities are scams and if they give 5 cents of every collected dollar, so that they qualify as a charity with the FCC.
