a recording saying from the irs and i had a refund waiting for me just call with my creditials to claim my refund.

it was a recording that said that I have several thousand dollars they had found in taxes that I had overpaid. Call 202-717-9037 and give them my information and they will immediately send my refund.

I got a call from 202-717-9037 saying they are from the irs and I have a refund coming to me.

They left a message saying i was to recieve an additional tax refund.... Total scam!

I am a professional tax preparer.  First of all, if the IRS owed you money, they wouldn't charge you a penalty fee.  They would not ask you for any of your vital info over the phone.  That is always the first indication of a scam, when someone asks you for money to receive money, and when they ask you to verify info over the phone.  Please beware of these kinds of scams.

I just got a call from this number. The guy that called was foreign so of course you cant understand him very well. He said he was calling from the IRS and he asked if my last 4 digits of my ssn was correct and then ask my address was correct and bank used was correct. I told him my address was not correct and I am thinking to myself if he was the IRS he would now that bc I didnt live there when I did taxes this time. Then when he asked if my was correct he gave a bank name that I have never ever used on my taxes so I then told him that I am not giving my acct info over the phone bc if he was the IRS they would haven already the correct bank that I have used every year for my taxes. He had mentioned they found a problem in my taxes for the last 10 years and I would be refunded $2173 (i think) and would be deposited in my account within 24 hours. I asked him what was the problem so I wouldnt do it again next year bc I do my own taxes and did not want to do it again. He told me that he didnt have that info so for then own I was trying to find out who he was and why they were calling me bc they would have all information if they were calling from the IRS.  Then he hung up on my and would not answer the phone again when I called back.

Got a message from this number this morning, tried calling back, could'nt get through. Fake..

I just received a message from the above phone number. They never specified who was to receive the refund and simply left a phone number for someone to call them to verify their personal information. I called the number that was on my caller ID and it was not a number that would go through. The caller ID said "Washington DC." So I got on the internet and it verified what I believed was a spammer call. I'm so sick of these kinds of calls. Not everyone is an idiot.

Is this bogus? Should I be worried they have my phone number, bday, email address and bank on file? I answered and they said they needed to verify information. Didn't ask for my ss#, but asked if everything else was correct.

I have recieved several calls from this number stating I owe the IRS $150.00 in order for me to get a tax refund that was due to me I would need to pay this first. The claim was I would recieve $2173.00 if I paid the penality of $150.00 first. This is truely a SCAM.

-  new  twist  is  they  are   also  impersonating  DEA  officials  /  IRS   etc....  with  threats  to  arrest you  unless  you  immediately  send money  via  wire   transfer /  western  union   to some   offshore  country  !!!!!   obvious  scam  !!!

some  are landlines...many  are  cell phones...some  are  spoofed  and  linked  to  offshore foreign call centers  /  countries !!!!
we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers  in  INDIA /  THAILAND / AFRICA  /  JAMAICA  ETC....

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

several  of  these are  the  usual   long  ongoing  scams   such  as  :  you  have  won a  free  walmart /  bestbuy  gift  card....or  you  have  won a  free  ipad  etc......all  long  ongoing  scams
