So frustrated!  I just got a call from the "US Treasury Dept. of Legal Affairs".  Called and got hung up on 3 times, that should have been my first clue.  I called back and spoke to "Adam Jones".  He and the women who left the message were very hard to understand foreigners. They said my taxes were misfiled in 2009.  Claimed I am going to jail for not responding to their paperwork.  Read me an affidavit and said that they have no choice but to prosecute.  At first I was nervous and soon realized this is a total scam.  I asked where they sent paperwork and they had an address I haven't lived at for 15 years.  I wound up hanging up on the jerk.  Wasted half my lunch with these morons.  the number is 213-375-0942

Prank Call
My husband received a call yesterday like the ones described.  The caller said that 2 detectives would be arriving soon to arrest my husband for unpaid taxes and he would be spending 6 months in jail.  Then asked how much my husband could send them in a lump sum payment.  My husband told them he knew this was a hoax and hung up.  A 911 call followed on our phone's caller ID . . .my husband ignored it.

Same as listed below using the name of Adam Jones w/ India accent.  Clearly a scam and it is fraud.  We should all start calling them and harrassing them.  Jam up their lines.  This might get their attention, let them know they are not fooling anyone, and make them stop.  It is criminal!

I was contacted last week. Same info as posted. I requested info from IRS two weeks prior to contact. I submitted my cell phone number to automated IRS program requesting transcripts. I'm convinced someone in the iRS supplied my name and cell phone number.

Yes, same thing, this guy called twice and I spoke with him the second time.  Sure enough says he's from the Treasury but he's calling at 6am and says his office is in LA.  Indian dude says he is working out of the East Coast, and says to take down this supervisor's name.  I jot it down, and ask him again where his office is at and he says it's in California, so I ask for the address and he hangs up.  Freaking scammers, burn in hell!

Well, it seems this fella gets an A for his persistent and consistent approach . He called me twice and I spoke with him once. Unfortunately for him, I googled his number beforehand and I read that it was a scam and being a CPA it is a little tough to blow me out of the water with the Department of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury - no such department exists. I'm still waiting for the IRS agents to pick me up and throw me in jail in six months- Bring it !!.

Just a matter of time before he is smoked out of his rat hole. Good job to all who spread the word on this scam

Voicemail message from "Alan Jones" (hard to tell first name; unknown accent) with "Department of Legal Affairs at US Treasury" today. Claimed calling about "enforcement actions" to be taken and I should call back, or "have my legal representative" call back. No, thank you. I know I have no tax issues.

I received the same call from an Adam today stating he was from the Internal Affairs Dept. of the US Treasury.  I hung up on him the first time as he had a heavy accent and had wanted me to state MY NAME.  After the first call, he left a message threatening me that there was legal action against my person which I knew was false. So I decided to call him back and when I refused to give him my name again asking him who he was looking for he said "go screw yourself" and hung up on me. BIG SCAM fishing for names.  Be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Spread the word.

Prank Call
Caller said his name is Dominic Reese from U.S. Treasury in California. I asked why he was calling at 5:30 am Pacific time and he said he was calling on Eastern Standard Time. Sounded pretty suspicious. He had an Indian accent and kept calling me by my first name with Mr. When I kept asking him questions about his identity and why he was addressing me like that, he hung up. This is obviously a scam and a complete invasion of privacy. It should be stopped.

Same exact thing happened to me. I realized it was a scam and spent time on the phone with him learning more about how it worked. Kept him on speaker phone and recorded most of the conversation. I too called the IRS, made sure I had no past tax liabilities and reported the incident. Be aware, he can be convincing, after hanging up on him, he called my cell phone and I did not answer. A few minutes later another call came across showing as 911. They are very determined, he also seemed to know specific information about me or at least guessed correctly.

Received and identical call from the same number earlier today. Clearly, this person was phishing, but it is upsetting to identify a criminal is on the phone with you and know that there is little that could be done to have him apprehended, at least in the near future. I worried the entire time that we were on the phone that he was somehow going to be able to gain information or take advantage of me. When I could not get any additional information or clues about who he was, I warned him to leave us alone and filed a complaint with the FTC. Please be alert when dealing with anyone that you do not know.

Our CFO reported this to us today:

"My wife received two phone calls yesterday from a Kevin Miller at the Dept. of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury.  He said she had received several letters demanding payment of past due taxes and that the next step was for an IRS agent to show up to arrest her.  She told him she would talk to her attorney and accountant.  The second call left the supervisor?s name (Shane) and phone number (213-289-3832).  I called him when I got home ? he gave an IRS employee number 11578 and said Cathy was going to jail for lack of payment.  I started asking questions about getting copies of the documentation that supposedly had been sent.  I asked for the city where the information had been sent.  They hung up.  I then spent forty-five minutes on hold with IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and confirmed that there weren't any unpaid taxes at IRS.  The IRS employee also gave me the phone number to report the incident as a phishing incident.  Please be aware as it could happen to you."

Called them today after getting a voice mail from them. Stated they were dispatching an IRS rep to my place of employment to arrest me, but I could avoid the arrest if I paid them money with Green Dot cards from Wal Mart. I knew it was a scam, so I recorded the conversation. Now I keep calling them back and playing parts of the recording back to them. When they don't answer my call, i use a different number and they pick up and try the scam again. Losers
