i received a call from the federal crime enforcement network. my caller ID said the number was local and stated "church of jesus". the message left was from Jack Gates from the federal crime enforcement agency and to call 646-564-3057. i couldnt really understand the rest of the message, except something about salt lake county sheriff. i called back and spoke to jack gates (who by the way had a strong indian accent) who asked me if i was someone else with the same last name. i said i dont know this person and asked what the call was regarding. he wanted all this other info which i refused to give him, then he said the county sheriff will be at my house in 15 min to arrest me for IRS fraud. this is the 4th call i have gotten in the last month regarding this. they think they can scare people into giving money or info. i told him to go ahead and have the police come to my home. i dont know who to contact to get this to stop. i have tried the IRS but with no luck.

Got a call from this number 781 741 1900. Said his name was Jack Marshall. Same rude and threatening tone as posted here. Claimed he was from a Federal Department and that he needed to talk to the residents. I said that I was a guest answering the phone. He said he wanted the cell phone numbers. I said I needed to confirm what the call was about, he said it was not something he could share. Then I asked him to repeat the Federal affiliation. He mentioned Federal Crimes Enforcement Network. I asked again what Federal Agency. He refused to give that information and hung up. Definitely a phishing exercise and scam!

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Hi like you i recieved a call from 911 the man idenitfied himself as Jason Accona he said that he was the sherrif officer from the arizona state police. He went on farther to say that a warrent has been issued for my arrest by the Department of Federal Crime Enforcement,he also said that I need to go to my local police station and turn my self in or i would be arrested at my job or home. The number he gave was 1-410-246-5303. This boggled me because I have not committed any crime. I called my local police and sheriffs department (in Phoenix Arizona) The police informed my that they do not call people  informing them that they have a warrent on them. I also looked on a public web site the sheriff's site in my county and i did not see my name on the list among many as having a warrent for my arrest. To me this was upsetting at first, now I am thinking it might be a scam. What do you thank i should do if this person calls again, any advice that you have would be helpful.

I had someone supposedly from the federal crime and enforcment. An officer D Richards, most definaltly a ficticious name based on the foreign accent. They claimed that they needed me to agree to pay 200.00 a month to pay off an old payday loan.  They claimed they had federal charges against me and my social security number.  When I explained that I did'nt make 200.00 a week , they advised me that I would be arrested at my home at 6:00 pm the same evening.  They also suggested I hire a laywer.  The callback number they gave was 1-904-436-9000.  They claimed that they could'nt accept any lower payments than the 200.00.

Even in 2012 this is still happening. They called my phone from a 410 number saying that they were from the federal crime emforcement network and i was the prime suspect in a federal crime and i will be detained if i dont call back or delete the message. They have all of my information and repeated it back to me over the voicemail. It was a woman with a very strong indian accent and i could barely make out what she was saying. They have tapped into my bank account and they know everything about me. These people are a GIANT scam. Dont fall for it...

Same thing as the other posts.  911 call showed up on my cell phone so I answered it.  Caller told me there was a warrant out for my arrest and to call 717 467-1737 or I would be arrested the next day (today).  I called and they said if I paid $300 right then the matter would be settled.  Lucily I caught on and simply ended the call.  My son lives in PA and I live in MD and we have the same first and last name.  I called him to let him know what happened and he said they called him too!  They had a foreign accent (possibly from India). The whole thing was tremendously unsettling and I can imagine that they have success preying on the weak.

my boss informed me that twice in one week a man with a very thick accent had called and asked for me. the number showed up on the caller id as 911.  the man said he was looking for me and theres a warrant for my arresst, the number he left was 717-467-1737 and the name was james smith which sounds like an unlikely name for someone with that accent.  on the first call he claimed to be from the pennsylvania police dept on the second he claimed to be the state sherrif. when i called the number he left the person that answered said it was the federal crime enforcement center.  i called the police and reported this and the police called this number also and the man got beligerant with the officer and accused him of not being a real cop, he wouldnt tell the officer anything about who he was or why he was calling me. the officer checked my name and assured me there were no warrants out for my arrest and told the man not to call me anymore.

Hi, I have received frequent calls from this person threatening and stating I am in trouble with the law. You stated that you have contacted the Authorities. I contacted my local police department but they state their is not much that can be done except change my number. Do you by chance have someone I can report this too? It is getting to be disturbing the frequency and just listening to this guy with the thick accent stating he is with the FBI.  I know that the FBI would not have someone who cant even speak proper english working with them. If you have any input please let me know. You can email me at Eileethebest@gmail.com. I hope you got your situation settled and the people have stopped calling you.

I recently had an encounter with this phone number.  I was told it was the BCI and they were going to have me arrested if I did not settle with a pay day loan company that I was at the present time dealing with.  I am having financial problems and she sounded so convincing that I blindly believed them.  I am elderly and disabled and I did not realize that I was being scammed.  I have taken the necessary steps with the FBI and BCI and also my local authorities.  These people need to be stopped.  Unless, someone can prove in writing that they have a legitimate complaint against me, I am a lot smarter as of today.

It took 7 times before it stopped.   This time they called me from a different #

I received a call at my place of employment and my cell. I asked what legal dept or what's the name of your law firm.  He stated Federal Enforcement Network.  I looked up the website but the phone nubmer did not match the number I was calling.  I googled the company name and came across these posting saying it was a scam which I had assumed.  The reps were all very aggressive and hung up when I asked if I should bring my own counsel and can I speak to a native english speaker.  I will be calling my local FBI offices

I went & got my cell phone put him on speaker and called the Albany Police Department. The officer I spoke to was also on speaker, he told me not to send these people anything. He also told me that they needed to send me any information by mail. The guy had the nerve to try and tell me that the things the officer told me was not true!! lol what an a**!! I took down his info. got on the internet and googled him, then i found this site! the number he called me from was1-209-349-3112. they know people are getting wise to their scams so they are changing numbers and all. He also told me he was in california!! Then the idiot gave me a phoney badge number,# 397. Wouldn't a federal agent have more numbers on his badge? Aah ha ha ha!!!! Wow, i told him I have a legitimate job, and would never lower myself to lying to people and trying to basically extort money from hard working people!! What a shame, i wonder how many people fall for this mess? the sit on their a***s and instead of begging for doe they  just try to intimidate people into giving away the money. My husband was contacted by these people who claimed to be from The Bureau of Criminal Investigation. I spoke with 2 people who had thick Indian accents. I told them the consumer laws of the US - because I knew this was outsourced and told them this - and he hung up on me. LOL He gave me an American name of Richard Hunt. I told them by federal law they HAVE to send in writing what the payday loan was (they claimed $1500) and when it was taken out, etc. "Mr. Hunt" told me that they were sending the documentation to his place of work - I promptly reminded him that this is illegal in America which he doesn't know because he's from India. He didn't like my answer and accused me of yelling at him. Another thing he doesn't know, and I didn't tell him is that it's impossible for us to take out a payday loan; it's a federal crime to give anyone in the military a payday loan.

It's also illegal to threaten to have you arrested for not paying a debt. They threatened to have my husband arrested for non-payment. They also called my husband using a 911 indicating that 911 was calling him about an emergency.

If a debt collecter calls ALWAYS get all of their info - name, number, address, etc. Don't give out your personal info. Ask them for their federal EIN number, their state filing number, their Department of Insurance number, and for their registration number with the State Insurance Board, etc.

Can't these people get a real job instead of trying to scam people out of their hard earned money!

I just left them a message to please not send the cops to my house and my call-back # as the FBI Field Office in my state.

I sent the following email to the Attorney General Of Oregon today, 11/21/2010:

To Whom It May Concern,

I have been getting lots of calls from 503-564-3006. If I do not answer, they leave NO message. A "Google" search revealed this as another Con or Scam that has been bothering many others.

One message left at   http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-252-378-3167/3  , is as follows:

"I got a call that caller ID reported as being from 503-564-3006 but the call back number that was left was 252-378-3167 ex 2121. A voice mail was left that is very difficult to understand but what I gathered was that it was "very important" for my daughter to contact this number and something vague about extadition. The caller only used my first name but he used my daughter's full name. I have never applied for a payday loan but she quite possibly has. The caller's name was ostensibly "Officer Alec (or possibly Alex) Wilson" and later in the call identified himself as "Officer Adam Wilson" from BCR (TCR) (TCI)?."

Initially, I thought these bothersome idiots were trying to sell something. Today, I answered the call after one ring and said, "I told you not to ever call this number again!" wanting them to think I've talked to someone at that number before. A mans voice said, "What're you going to do, kill me?" This kind of response tells me these people aren't trying to sell anything.

I bring this to your attention because I believe these people are breaking some law or must be doing something that can be prosecuted using the RICO act. This can't be just ONE dude making calls for what ever reason without having some goal in mind. I believe this is a bigger issue than one may think.
