Conway 2014-02-06 05:01:23 Unknown
I have received two calls. Both were after 10:00pm. I had heard about the scam, so I didn't answer. If they call you, don't call the number back or you will be charged a fee.

Got a call this afternoon at approximately 12:36p.m. this day February 4 2014. It rang once and quickly hung up. Luckily for me I do not answer to numbers I do not know. And if it is a number I do not know and someone indeed knows me from the unknown number if its that important they will leave me message. If no message was left then it never was important enough for me to care who the caller was. Nice try but this lady isn't falling for an ignorance.

I received a call at 5:30 am this morning and only rang about 4 times and I did not answer it. Be careful!

From Wikipedia:
One Ring Scam[edit]
The 268 area code has been linked to a form of telephone fraud known as the "one ring scam". The person perpetuating the scam calls the victim via a robodialer or similar means, sometimes at odd hours of the night, then hangs up when the phone is answered with the hope that they will be curious enough to call the number back. When the victim does this, an automatic $19.95 international call fee is charged to their account, as well as $9.00/min thereafter. Similar scams have been linked to Grenada (area code 473), Antigua (area code 268), Jamaica (area code 876), the Dominican Republic (area code 809) and the British Virgin Islands (area code 284).[1]

On to of the international charges, most of these scams are adult phone services and you get hit with per minute charges. I heard a report about it today on the radio.
Franklin 2014-02-03 23:16:05 Unknown
just heard on the radio that this number and many others are used to get you to call back. Your phone only rings once and when you call back it goes to an overseas "900" number where this initial fee is $20 and an additional $10/minute. The other numbers are from area codes you probably would not recognize.

Check your phone bill to make sure you didn't incur any international charges from calling them back.
This is a new scam that is making the news

Scam alert: Returning one-ring call can lead to international charges on cell phone bill
Annabelle 2014-02-03 21:37:42 Unknown
My friend just had them call. She googled the number and it came up as a scam. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!!!!!
http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/242607361.html
Cell phone users who receive a one-ring call and call the number back to find out who called could end up with international fees on their bills.
The Better Business Bureau issued a warning Wednesday to cell phone users about a new scam that can result in unauthorized charges on their monthly statement.
"It's called the 'One Ring' scam because the scammers program computers to send thousands of calls to random cell phone numbers, ring once and then disconnect," the BBB said in a news release Wednesday. "When the cell phone owner returns the call, they are charged $19.95 for an international call fee. After that, there is a $9.00 per minute charge. It?s reported that often they will first hear music followed by advertising. So, it?s easy to see how quickly these charges can add up."
Consumers who have been duped by the calls report that they are coming from the Caribbean Islands including Grenada, Antigua, Jamaica and the British Virgin Islands, according to the BBB.
As we reported a couple of weeks ago, a similar scam going around that tricks consumers into incurring extra phone charges is the "473 area code scam." The 473 area code also originates in the Caribbean, and consumers have been receiving calls from that number, hearing moaning on the other end. The phone number actually functions like a 1-900 number or sex line.
A few tips on what to do in case you received a scam call:
If you missed the call:
In general, if you get a phone call from a number you don't know, it's best not to answer it.
Don't call back. If it's important, people will leave a message.
If you really want to know who called, do an internet search for the phone number.
If you answered the call:
Don't press any buttons to be removed from any call lists.
Don't stay on the line to talk to a person. It only confirms to the scammers that they have a live, working number.
Immediately alert your (cell) phone carrier and keep an eye on your cell phone bill to make sure you don't incur any unauthorized charges. The earlier you document the fraud, the better your chances of having some or all of the charges removed.

Be careful doing that because this is the new scam where you will end up incurring international calling charges which start around $19 just to answer the call, and become $90 a minute there after

It is a scam! I received the call a few times and never answered. Finally called them back and the recording when i called said my Virgin Mobile account had insuffcient funds and I needed to add funds to fix my account. However my account was paid current and I called other people after. It is a scam to get your personal info by pretending you are behind on an account.

Received phone call late last night as well. Do not answer or call back. Have your provider block these numbers. The damage may have already been done since they were connected with you for a short period while calling you. It's a major scam that's been going around for about 15 years.
Madeline 2014-01-30 06:04:47 Unknown
Okay everyone. I read up on this number and ones like it. This is a major scam and has been going on since the 90s. Do not answer or call back. Charges will be up to $100 or more. The idea is to call late or early in the day to make people aggrivated enough to call back. After wich they leave you on hold to rack up surcharges. I advise you to block these types of numbers through your carrier because even if you don't answer charges may still apply since they were connected with you for a brief time while calling you. Talk to your service provider asap. F*** these a***oles.

I got the call and there was no answer. I called right back and got this awesome hypnotic hold music. I was. reminded of Opus 1 the original Sysco default hold music track and how its actually for sale now as a single. Then some twenty minutes later I was dancing in the garage with the ear buds in when I realized it was a trap! Be ware.
