Received a threatening debt collection call.  Said that case is ready to go to court and I would have to pay $2800 plus court costs and have a lien placed against my property.  Wanted me to send money right away and stated they would accept 1/3 of that amount to close the debt.  In addition to this, they left 4 messages on father's answering machine asking that I or my lawyer contact them and refer to case # # # # # # when calling.  When I called back one time, I received a voice-mail prompt from some investigator for the fraud department or something.  Stated they were trying to collect an unpaid Discover credit card debt from 1990's era, and I don't even remember ever having a Discover credit card.  The first woman I spoke to named "Julie" hung up on me after I told her that I have an attorney and requested more information for the attorney so that my he could prepare for the supposed court date in 3 days.  Anyhow, this is the first time I've heard of this outstanding debt and there is nothing showing on my credit report to substantiate her claims of said unpaid debt from 1990's decade.  They must provide written notification within five days of the initial contact which must include their name, the amount of money owed and information about how to dispute any of the debt the collector is trying to collect.  So, being that today was the first contact they've had, I will wait to see if any documentation shows up and proceed from there.
