A guy call and told me that he was working for gouvernment and need to check some information about my buisness.  I speak french and a little bite of anglish and he was not abble to explain to me what was the purpose of his call... Talk to him in french i'm sure he will not call back

Should I give out my SSN?

After some research on-line, it seems that caller Ids can be spoofed.  Apparently it's not hard to do.  In fact, there is now a bill passed by the US House of Reps that makes this illegal to do.  Hard to believe it is not illegal already.

If this is truly a customer of Paetec, and Paetec does nothing about the situation, then Paetec is now knowingly providing communication service to a person who, at minimum is violating multiple federal laws governing privacy and communications, and possibly engaging in identity theft.

One question that begs for an answer, how come people who call back that number get a recording that the call can not be completed, or is not in service?  Can a phone number be spoofed some way?

What a nutcase. This guy keeps calling my cell, even though we're on the Do Not Call list.  Lot of good that list did for us.  I told him we're not interested and he keeps calling back!  What a screwball.

It must be very gratifying to sit at your desk in your underware with one hand in your shorts while the other dials numbers on a call list to try and steal the identities of unsuspecting good, hard working people.

Just remember folks, NEVER give your SSN to ANYONE over the phone!

Calling Paetec was useless.  They would only take action against this number if you gave them the cell phone number that the scammer is calling.  I'm not willing to give out my cell number to ANYONE.  I specifically asked the Paetec employee to notify their customer at 323-317-9714 that they are receiving complaints from people with cell phones that their social security numbers are being asked for and that this is likely a phishing operation involved in identity theft.  The Paetec employee said he could do nothing unless I gave him my cell phone number.  Bogus.

My next call is to my state attorney general.  Cingular/ATT has refused to block this number from dialing me as well.

Called at 9:46am central time.  This has to be the 20th time he's called asking for our social security number.  When asked what his name was, he replied "Harry Smith" in his thick Indian accent.  When pressed for a number to call him back on, he said he would get in trouble if he gave out that info.

I just got a call from this number today. Same as others are reporting here. I did not answer because I didn't recognize the number. No message left. When I call back, it says the line is not in service.  Reported the call as a violation of the Do Not Call list.

my daughter got a call from this number today (6.19.07) but didn't answer it because she didn't recognize the number.  i looked it up and ended up here.  great forum.  watch out for this person.

CONSTANTLY CALLS MY HOUSE. I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST. I TOLD THEM THIS. A FOREIGN GUY SAYS I GET A FREE PHONE FROM SPRINT, BUT I CUT HIM OFF AND TOLD HIM ONCE AGAIN THAT I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST. I AM REPORTING THEM.

I've been getting multiple calls a day from this number -- caller id says no name received. If I answer a foreign-sounding guy claims to be from Sprint and gives the free cell phone come-on...and when I refuse he gets rude. If I don't answer and let it go to voicemail he doesn't leave a message. I've filed a complaint with the FCC and also called PAETEC Services, at 877.340.2600 to complain. As I'm on the national do not call list I know that this guy is violating the law -- and is probably guilty of the telephone equivalent of online phishing scams. I just hope less savvy recipients of his calls don't provide him with personal info.

Always a FOREIGN person that calls & they use several fake numbers that never ring back to them.  The usual is you've been selected to win something free.  But as I know with nything free theres always something you DONT WANT so I just say "I simply dont want it" & to stop calling me.  I dont think they're playing by the FTC's do not call rules because they're faking their callback number.  That tells me this is a Identity-theft ring.

Cell phone showed "MISSED CALL" at 9:24 PM on 6/12/2007.  Like all of you, I checked Google and....hello everyone!  From the gist of all the entries, it appears we have a scam.
I like Jinkbot's action for 9 Apr....will do this but will also report it to my cell provider to block the call.

They called at 8:19am, I didn't know it so I didn't answer.
They called at 9:19am, and I answered.
They said they were Todd from Sprint Wireless.
I have Verizon and I'm absolutely not interested, so I just hung up

I don't even use sprint and they keep calling, I won't answer the call, how do I get this call blocked.

Just called the provider, PAETEC Services, at 877.340.2600.

They told me that the number belonged to a wholesaler known as R & K Telecomm and that they stop the calls.

Really annoying.

Unfortunately my mother got this call when she was home alone and they told her she won a free phone from sprint . she gave them her ssn and everything. What do we do now? When i researched the number it came up as an unpublished landline. The service provider for the number is paetec Communications out of L.A. California. WE HAVE GOT TO STOP THIS F****R. I'm worried about what they will do with my moms info.

Yeah I got a call twice already from this number. Have not answered it yet. But it is annoying.. they are calling me in the middle of work. I work for a wireless company.  This line is a land line.  We have a tool that lets us know where lines are coming from if we want to port them in.  The land line company that issued this line is PAETEC COMMUNICATIONS, INC.  This is not the company from where the caller is calling from.  It is the landline provider that supplies that number.

I got a call from this same number saying he was with Sprint PCS and they have a free phone for me.  It was kind of hard to hear him, he sounded like he was hindu or something, so i had to keep asking him what he was saying, he was getting pissed LOL, anyways he said he was sending me a phone free of charge and i told him I didn't have sprint and he asked why and if I wanted sprint.  I told him no, i'm happy with the company I'm with and he hung up.  I tried to call the number back and the first time is just rang and rang, then i called a few seconds later and it said it was no longer in service.

I have been receiving telephone calls from this # for the past week.  I do not answer because it is a number I do not recognize.
