Your phone may be brand new, but your phone number likely isn't -- it probably belonged to someone else fairly recently. Of course, if numbers are being dialed randomly, none of this matters...

Robo calls are illegal. Real legitimate companies do not need to robo call you. Look at the companies that do this despicable practice. You have companies peddling auto warranties, debt consolidation, health insurance, and all sorts of services. I've even seen robo calls for carpet cleaning.

Real companies do not need to do this. They earn your business. That is why 100% of all robo calls are scams. AND ALL ROBO CALLS ARE ILLEGAL DUE TO FEDERAL LAW.

There are two exceptions to the illegal robo call law:  political calls, and non-profit solicitations. It figures the scumbag politicians would exempt themselves from robo calls asking for donations.

But you also need to beware of calls from non-profits and politicians as well. Many scammers will create a dummy non-profit and try to robo call you to get a "donation" in exchange for a service. Also, the scammer that is the subject of this thread used political polls, where you could "win" a free cruise.

No legitimate pollster gives anything away.

You are absolutely correct. The scammers and crooks use robo dialers that automatically dial every number in an exchange.

Having you number on any do-not-call list is worthless to them, because they just call every number

I got the call, listen for a few mins. and then hung up.  Then I heard on the john Tesh radio 93.3 and mention that it is a sam.  Thanks John Tesh

My room mate got a call from this number on her cell too.  Thing is, we've only had these cell phones for less than a week and while I have received three calls on mine, from a completely different number...she received one from this number.  I called it back and it said that the Verizon customer was not available and to leave a message.  I searched the number and up came this site.  Doggone it!  There has to be some way that we can prevent these jerks from calling...especially when the cell phones are brand new and prepaid!!

This is a scam that will get you to take a survey and then promise you a free cruise after they take a bit of information. They'll then ask you to confirm you info on their website for a free cruise which you won't get.
