Be very careful with these cockroaches. It really doesn't matter if you catch one, two more will take their place. The only thing you can do is understand how these scam-roaches work. Never pay anything on the phone if you have an incoming call. Make sure you are the one calling in.

Hmm, more like the Disconnect From Reality Department. I don't think real power providers maintain such a division, and generally they're reluctant to shut down service in the dead of winter. Anyway, I've only recently updated my thread on this scam, which looks to be a growing national trend.

This company/person called and said our power bill was past due and would be shut off in an hour if we did not pay $584 immediately. My employee would not give any payment information, so they left a callback number of 800-635-1319. When I called back, it was a generic recording that said I had reached the "disconnect department" and to leave my information. I did not...

Called my place if employment claiming the electric would be turned off in an hour because the bill was past due. This is the second time they have tried to do this to our company. I kindly told him we'd worry about it when that happened. He didn't know what to say after that.

I received a call from this number from a guy who told me his name was Michael Wilkins and claimed to be calling from Rocky Mountain Power. He told me that my power bill was past due and I owed over $1000 within an hour or my power would be disconnected. While we were on the phone I looked up my power account on line and told him I wasn't past due and questioned him suspiciously. He "put me on hold" and never came back.
I'm sure his mother is proud of him

The number, 408-372-1851, (a Magic Jack number), is operating by a group of scam artists. They are trying to get money from innocent people. They will ask innocent people to go to Walmart or RadioShack to purchase "Money Pak" and read back "Confirmation number" to them. Please DO NOT nor give out your confidential information to any stranger via phone.
