CITY OF MILWAUKEE-PARKING ENFORCEMENT (414) 831-1881

Apparently I had a parking ticket, so they deducted from my State tax refund.  Didn't receive letters, so I was unaware.  Plus, don't remember getting a ticket in the last year (have a garage at the house and park underground for work).  We'll see how much they deduct.

I get calls from this number sometimes 5 times a day from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm for a week; the next week maybe a few. The week after that the cycle starts all over again. Sometimes a cut-off message (recording) is left giving me the last four digits of another number to call.

Why on earth would anyone take a job in collections? I guess the people who do have hardships or can't find an easier, less stressful occupation. In the past, I treated bill collectors as a challenge - someone who has engaged me in a battle of will and wits and to whom I was hell-bent to "out irritate". It was almost like a game of telephone chicken to see who would hang-up first.

When the collector called, there was never any possibility that I would pay on the spot and no amount of threats or intimidation could change that and this is still true today. If a rude or arrogant collector calls, the possibility of any meaningful dialogue evaporates instantaneously and it quickly devolves into a battle royale.

Technology has now given the consumer an increased advantage over the collector to some extent in the form of caller-id and online databases like this. From these, you can get a sense that you are not alone and can gauge an idea of how a company is going to deploy its strategy in attempting to collect the debt. Sort of makes you feel that you are not the only victim of these silly tactics and a forum like this gives you a voice to let these people know you are not going to take it.

Another advantage of the technology age is that you can have more than one phone number and that number may or may not listed in your name i.e. a spouse or relative with a different surname, a company name, skype... When you sign-up for a purchase or a loan, think about the possibility that you may become delinquent at some point. Think about saving yourself the aggravation of having a dopey collector bothering you by letting him/her call a number you use exclusively for sales or "junk" calls and rings somewhere far from earshot (or not at all like a voice-mail only number). Never give a cell phone number or work number. As an aside, set up a second or third email account and list that one on sales or loan forms as well. In other words, the collector may EVENTUALLY find you but why make it easy.

Talking to these people also requires a little forethought. They are not your friend and will use tactics to find out more about you - other phone numbers, addresses, email, aliases or anything else of use in order to collect the debt. Give them NOTHING!

Don't let these people scare or bully you. They can't get you demoted at work or have you put in jail or anything else they claim they can do. In the cases I've read about them taking pictures or intimidating you, call the cops!, let these fools explain to them about what exactly they are doing.

If you're like me, you most likely DO OWE the debt they are attempting to collect. You know it and they know it. In my case, nine times out of ten I had simply put the bill on a pile of papers somewhere and forgot about it. I make a good income and have no reason not to pay it. The only reason its not paid is disorganization and lack of momentum. This is where I have my NEW philosophy on bill collectors.

When they call (unless they're rude or nasty) I now thank them for making me aware of the delinquent bill and thank them for their time. They almost always want me to take care of it that moment and I always decline and say I will contact the company to whom I owe the money and pay them directly. I usually get several responses to that: "Your credit rating will be affected..." or "we will continue to call even though you said it will be taken care of..." Both probably true but I still decline and usually hang-up. There may be a commission for them if they get the actual payment and since they have irritated me, "no commission for you!" Then, I really do pay the bill. Usually online or by mail directly to the company. eventually, the calls stop and that's that.

If some bill collector is going to tell me I should clean-up my act and pay bills on time especially since I am fortunate enough to have the ability to do so, I would say look at your own lives and put your own house in order first. Quit giving me a holier-than-thou lecture. You're basically just a voice on the phone who has no power or control over me whatsoever so, shut the hell up and go away!

Alfred E. Neuman ...Clearly you are beyond any help I can provide for you...all of your ridiculous questions really don't matter. After all, they were not asked to get any real replies because any reply that would be provided would not change the scenario anyway.
The bottom line is...just pay your bills and you won't get calls from a collection agency. If they call you in error (which is rare) then call them and tell them that. It's really quite simple. I see you've tried to complicate it though. Perhaps you think you are funny? At least, I hope that's the tone you were going for...good luck to you, sir. It's going to be difficult to get through life with your ignorant attitude.

Lets dissect the above message shall we.

> yes, some government agencies do hire collection agencies...

Gee, thank you for the information.  No one would have been able to figure this out without your input.

> I work for one.

You work for what? a government agency? or collection agency? Actually, who cares what you work for!

> If people pay their bills, they won't get a call.

Hmmmm, what if we WANT a call? or are expecting a call? but won't get it because we have payed our bills.  I mean, that could be potentially devastating.  I think it would be better NOT to pay our bills so we will continue to receive calls!

>This number is a collection agency and it IS for parking tickets.

What? a number that has become a collection agency?  Fascinating.  I have heard of numbers becoming fractions or percentages but never a collection agency yet this one seems to have done it!

One could also infer that the number is pro-parking ticket.

> Not only will they ding your credit,

They? they who?  The government? collection agency? number that is a collection agency? the parking ticket? The only ding you need to know about is the nine hundredth ding dong you have eaten this week.

> they will charge a fee,

A fee for what? How about if I charge the collection agency a fee for wasting my time by trying to engage me in some boiler-plate, nonsensical, border-line illiterate banter designed to compel me to pay for something which may or may not have been proven to be mine, nor may be potentially still binding due to state or county statutes.

It is the collection agencies' own fault for purchasing these debts.  The city that sold the debt has no further desire or obligation to assist in the attempted collection of that debt whatsoever.

Quit trying to scare people.

> plus yank the registration for your vehicle
>(based on yoour VIN and not your plates)

Huh, Wuh, How exactly is that done?  No city, state or county is going expend resources going after old debt like this. There may be some isolated cases but it is not the status quo.  Many cities even have amnesty programs to clear their books of old parking debt.

> - trust me, it happened to my son.

Uh, ok, I for one will trust you unquestionably.  Plus, if it happened to your son, it could most certainly happen to anybody!

I have been receiving calls from this number too for a couple months now.  They are calling my cell phone.  I have ignored the number each time except for the time they left half a voicemail. I have yet to call back the number, but I am kind of unsure if they will actually take my number off the list.  As far as I know, I do not have any tickets that they would be collecting for.  I love the air horn idea though and may have to use this the next time they call.

LOVE the air horn idea!!
Calls from this number are most annoying. I followed the posts above, contacted the company as noted in posts and they say my phone number will be removed (we'll see).
When I asked what it was about I was told by customer service rep Ebony - "I can't tell you what it's about but we'll remove your number".
I have reported this to the FTC as a probable scam - don't know that anything will ever come of that! Also putting in a complaint with my state and Wisconsin Attorney General.

Oh yeah I forgot, in my experience state governments don't hire outside collection agency's. Especially Wisconsin since I grew up there. They will screw with your ability to drive instead (DL Suspension or Suspension of your plates).

Looking back through all these other posts a lot of them seem to say its about parking tickets in the DC area. Except its a Milwaukee phone number. I was easily able to get them to delete my number off the list. It sounds like a pretty big scam to me. I agree with the above poster that is saying that Washington D.C. is a pretty inevitable place to receive a parking ticket so perhaps they are actually targeting us? Just my two cents.

Started getting calls this week. They called on a bad day and I ignored them. I then called them back and when they answered I simply said "Yes, You've been calling me and if you call again I will be pressing charges against you" They asked for my number and removed me from the list. This isn't something about stupid parking tickets or bill collecting.

These fools call almost EVERYDAY.  I live and work in DC and getting a parking ticket (or two or five) is inevitable. Anyway, I spoke with "Porsche" and she told me they were collecting for 12 outstanding tickets dating back to 1988!

I told her she can forget about some of them due to statute of limitation laws but she warned me that my vehicle would be booted and towed if I didn't pay immediately.

I told her it hasn't been booted yet and that some of the tickets they are attempting to collect for are on vehicles which are no longer registered or owned by me - and, the license plates have long been removed and returned to dmv so good luck finding them.

Furthermore, I intend to change my plates on my current vehicle and the blood-sucking District of Columbia will be unable to match my car with the delinquent tickets. (its far easier and MUCH CHEAPER to change the tag then pay these tickets since they double after 30-days).

Am I guilty of the parking infractions?  YES.  I constantly get ward overtime violations simply for doing service calls which often take over the two-hour allotted time the district so graciously gives you to park.

Any DC area resident knows how impossible it is to fight these either by mail or in person.  So my only alternative (other than paying) is to ignore and change the tag periodically.

Like I said, they haven't booted or towed me yet and i've been living here for 25+ years.

Porsche clearly had a hard time digesting all this information and asked me if she could call back in a few minutes.  "Could I have your cell number?" she asked. Porsche, I am not stupid, NO you may not have the cell number, work number or any other type of information to help you attempt to collect the debt.

I told her Porsche is a WONDERFUL name for someone who collects parking ticket debts.  She laughed.  I asked her if she sometimes uses Mercedes and if she really wanted results, she should try Ms. Hummer.

Porsche was not dissuaded by my shenanigans and told me she would call back another time.  I bid her good luck and we parted ways.

They still try, but I suspect it will be a long time (if ever) before they succeed.

Finally decided to search this number.  Not only have they somehow gotten a hold of my Cell phone number, but I now realize these are the butt-heads that keep on calling out house phone, "Professional AC".

Of all the cell numbers in out family plan, they decide to call mine. Every single freaking' day.  I finally got a hold of someone today, asking to be put on the "do not call list".  A woman asked for "my account number".  Again, I requested to "just take me off the call list, I've been trying to get answers from your representatives for months now."

Again, in an angry tone, she nearly yelled, "What ACCOUNT NUMBER are you searching for?"

Sheesh.  Hasty, aren't they? Account number for what?

I have gotten calls daily for months now. I get a recording  or mostly an empty line if I pick up, never any message. I called them and got a rep that asked me for my husband.  I asked what she wanted and was told it was personal.  I have called them twice now telling them to take my number off their list. They still call...everyday.  I am having my Husband call and see if they will tell him what they want and to get them to stop calling.  If they keep calling does anyone know how to take this to legal channels.  I know this is illegal but who do we call?  Maybe we can find a lawyer and start a class action suite for harassment???

I got a call from them today asking for my husband.  Someone is trying to get money from him for a traffic ticket that he never received in the mail. He called the district that claimed he got the ticket and told them to send him the original ticket but they just told him to pay it PLUS 50 dollars extra late charge. Where do they find these idiots? How is someone supposed to pay a ticket that they never recieve? Morons.

If you are in DC or the surrounding area or for that matter visited DC and were ticketed by a photo camera and did not pay, that is why the are calling you.  They are contracted by the Wash.,DC government to collect unpaid camera fees. So maybe and obviously you are in THAT group that gets calls from them.
