I received the call from this number and this time he said he was David Parker but his indian accent was so heavy. He even gave me a case number and told me I was being sued and tomorrow the arrest warrant will be at my door. Really bogus. I was very annoyed.

The man who called was very stern.  He had a Middle-Eastern and said his name was Shawn Riley.  He said to contact him right away as there was a deficiency in my taxes.  He gave me a reference number of 672095.

Got the same call.  Though I'm familiar with Indian accent (after working with Indian outsource tech support for 6 years), it is still difficult to figure out just what he was saying.  And then I looked up both the number on google and the reverse source.  Yep, scam.

i received message from same number with heavy indian accent from india`s call center and they apparently left threat message on my answering machine. Apparently i called them back and the moment i told them stop making threat calls or i would call FCC and have case filed against you , the calls was disconnected. Be aware this  is fraud and scam service , do not answer or much a less give any personal information.

Hi everyone,

Gotta call from the 415-251-5012 number today claiming that my dads taxes havent been properly paid and they were about to take it to legal. Heavy Indian accent, heres the funny part they tried to sound very intimidating (Absolute fail). So I told them I would make sure my dad called back never returned it. Keep away from these calls but if you happen to pick it up just tell them to leave you alone in the RUDEST manner possible. Profanity is highly encouraged. Have a great day :-)

heavy indian accent tried to leave message for my dad about some sort of rebate. I picked up the phone and told him that my dad moved out of the country and wont be back. He asked if i could pass along a message and I told him that my dad wont be interested in any rebate if hes not going to be back in the country. He then kept asking if my dad was returning this month or next month and no variation of "hes not coming back" "hes not coming back ever" "he does not live here anymore" would stop him from asking if he was going to be back this month or next month. LOL talk about dense.

>>> These people are in the USA ... I know because the phone they called on for me has a tracker and I tracked them found out they're in Texas <<<

The only way you are going to find out this type of information from a magicJack number is to subpoena the records of YMAX Communications.  You can do that -- it has been done before successfully by at least one state's Attorney General, and the company cooperated.  But unless the tracker attached to your phone is a process server, I doubt your story.

I admit that it is possible to spoof a magicJack number, but why would anyone bother?  In any event, that only makes the number harder for you to "track,"  but even if it isn't spoofed, it's hard enough to track.  Besides, magicJacks are so cheap, why not just get one and use it and not even bother to spoof the number?

I tend to believe that you are engaging in mere braggadocio or really don't know what you are talking about, but you are welcome to try to prove otherwise.

>> And I know because the phone they called on for me has a tracker

Um.

We can no longer believe the phone number we see on our caller IDs (CID) belongs to the person who called!  The bad guys are now using easily accessed technology to "spoof" the CID numbers, so their real number does not appear.

The problem has gotten so bad, the US government actually passed an Act, called "The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009", making such spoofing illegal.  See http://www.fcc.gov/guides/caller-id-and-spoofing
for more information.

The FCC adopted that Act in June, 2010, stating that violators could be fined up to $10,000 for each violation.

However, the bad guys are ignoring this law ... after all, they are criminals, and that is what criminals do.  Although we now have a "law" against spoofing, it is very difficult to enforce it.

So, if you see a CID number on your phone when you are called by some scammer or telemarketer, it might not belong to the scammer!  It might be the number of some unsuspecting third party ... or, it might be one of those numbers that charge $25 (plus about $9 per minute) if you call it back.

In other words, your "Tracker" may not track.

Total scam.  They are a bunch of extortionists operating out of India and Pakistan.  The accent gives them away and their general lack of knowledge about how American tax system and how US law enforcement works.   They generally try to scare recent immigrants, single woman and the elderly.

Something really bad has to happen to these people.  I'm thinking a hellfire missile strike on their call-centers for a start.

>>> I called the number back and got that it was the IRS. <<<

Not unless the IRS uses magicJacks for their phone calls.

For detailed information on (1) how to recognize the scam and report it to the correct authorities, (2) why magicJack numbers are often used in scams such as this, and (3) how to determine whether the call is coming from (or, for that matter, going to) a magicJack number, possibly located overseas, please see my post in this web site's forums at

"This message is intended for Sherry perez-it's-terry(?) ready second you receive this message I need you or your retained attorney off record to return the call. Don't try to disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible before any legal action takes place. We have determined that there is a-test(?) and say(?) hey Neil income tax...."

This is a scam. IRS will send you a certified mail.  If you use a tax preparer, IRS would send him/her a note (if you checked that on your tax return).  Also, the IRS is not stupid to hire folks who cannot use the proper tax terms for what they are asking.  The guy who left a message said that I "have a tax deficit."  The only deficit I see is his ethics and intellect.
