I received same e mail message after redponding to a craigs list employment opportunity.  How funny i actually e mailed a Lyndells Bakery as that is whom was stated as employer. My e mail was almost exactly the same as yours except it is now offeting $500 a week.

I received a similar message like everyone else. I applied on craigslist and got this in response. "Judy" works at a bakery now. There is some major changes just be on the lookout. It sounded weird to be because I never interviewed. Luckily I googled and found all this information out. Be safe!

Yeah I had gotten a somewhat similar scam. But in this one they had put out an ad saying they were looking for someone to fill in a front desk job at the Hilton hotel and soon after became a personal assistant job. I was, please cut me a little slack, stupid enough to go along with it all and I had went for it. He/she had sent me a check for a pretty good amount and was told that 500 of it was mine to keep as my pay and the rest was to be put on a money pak from Walmart. Before I could even get what was told of me to buy I couldn't even access my account and use my card anywhere. Shortly after I found out that my account was restricted and the check I had deposited was INVALID!! FML!! I'm totally screwed because of this jerk.

Don't do that.  My sister-in-law had the same problem and I just got scammed too.  If you deposit or cash the check you are responsible for it.  That is why they do it... cause it makes you legally responsible.  You could face criminal charges.

Please read the posts before yours as they contain valuable information that would answer your question.

And no... don't cash the check. Don't just take my word for it, however; take it to your bank and EXPLAIN the situation and they'll tell you the same. The bank it's drawn on should be alerted to this fraud as well.

You will almost certainly find out the check is fake but you might want to contact the actual bank the check is drawn upon to alert them.  You could also take the check and any instructions from "Judy" to your bank and ask to speak to someone who can investigate fraudulent checks. Provide them with the check and any contact and identification information you have and see what they can find out. If they determine fraud is involved they can contact the appropriate authorities for further investigation. If you do actually deposit the check and wait for it to clear, you may be hit with a returned check fee so it is best to give them the check, explain your concerns about fraud and let them investigate.

SCAM!!! I  got this message just now  then I replied and told her  to call me after not answering her phone,  asked for her company info and EIN  and that I  won't send my personal info to her. I  asked how  she could need an assistant  out of state...
she gave me bogas info  and  said we  would meet face to face soon.

Ditto !  however, i just spoke to an Indian man out of Virginia who claimed that "Judy" was in a meeting and if I sent her an email, she would respond.  My thoughts are... I'm going to see if i can CASH the check via the bank the check was drawn on.. OR see if I can deposit the check and WAIT until it clears.. withdraw the funds... and see what JUDY has to say then !  What do you think??

I got the same reply to a job posting on Craigslist. The response was 6/7/13. It sounded immediately sketchy to me as I am on to all these silly scams. I even called the number out of curiosity and all I got was a wierd jumble of music and noise in place of a voicemail greeting. Creepy and odd.

They never called me. Just as email and the message is as follows:

I received a "offer of employment" with the same email and number as listed above. I have never met this person and she is offering me the job without meeting first. There are no questions about my personal info other than name, address, age, telephone numbers etc. No banking info asked but that would probably be the next communication. I received a similar message from this individual.  Then I received an e-mail stating I would be receiving a check overnight.  I was provided instructions to deposit the check into my banking account and then to immediately send the funds, less my expenses, to a forwarding address.  The check arrived the next day via overnight mail.  I suspected fraud since this is the third event I have experienced over the last month by different individuals.  Each send a very similar e-mail with very similar instructions.

I followed up on the previous two incidents.  The checks were in the name of two different colleges.  I contacted each college and asked if the person who signed the check worked at the college.  In both cases, the person did not work for the college and was unknown to the college.  Both colleges were aware of similar fraudulent activity using their colleges names.

I also tracked the names listed on the overnight documents.  In both cases the names were of prominent individuals.  One owned a $10 million property in California and the other owned a well regarded business in California.  I suspect neither are aware that their names are being used for this type of fraudulent activity.
