I agree with Boca Raton.  Why 8:15 in the morning.  Isn't there a Florida law that solicitors are not supposed to call before 9:00 am and after 9:00 pm?

LAST WEEK RECEIVED A SOLICITATION CALL FROM A PERSON CLAIMING THEY WERE THE FL STATE TROOPERS, TOLD THEM THAT WE ARE RETIRED, PAY OUR TAXES, AND DON'T NEED TO DONATE TO THE TROOPERS.  THIS MORNING, AT 8:16 AM, I WAS AWAKENED BY A CALLER ASKING "IS RAMON AVAILABLE"?  WHEN I ANSWERED "YES", HE SAID "O.K." AND HUNG-UP.  WHEN I GOT UP AT 8:45 AM I PROCEEDED TO CALL THEM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR CALL, BUT NO ONE ANSWERED.  WHEN I GOOGLED THE NUMBER ON MY PHONE ID, I SAW THIS SITE, AND FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A WHILE.  I THINK THAT THEY PROBABLY CALLED ME TO HARASS ME FOR NOT GIVING-IN TO THEIR PREVIOUS MONEY SOLICITATION.

Some random thoughts after I received a call/hangup from this #:

(1) If you call me @ 8:05 AM, you had better have a VERY good reason for doing so. (It looks like calling at the earliest acceptable time, or even a hair before, is the standard M.O. for this outfit.)

(2) If you hang up on me when I answer the phone after 3 rings, obviously you don't have a good reason to be calling me; it's more likely you're just trying to find out whether you get an answer at that hour.

They are legit but a VERY small portion of their donations actually go to the police. I worked for them for 3 days in 1992 until I spoke to a friend of mine who was a deputy sheriff in Brevard County at the time and found out just how little they actually do for the police officers.

Just have to understand most "charity organizations" only donate a portion of their profits to the cause they claim to be calling for. Breast cancer, feed the children, whatever.

Ask how much of your money actually goes to the Fl Fop. I have had people call fro donations and only 10% goes to the charity and 90% to the company making the calls. If you want to donate money to a charity do it directly with that charity.

Boy, these folks are persistent, if nothing else.

This morning was the THIRD call this week (that I am aware of), all allegedly from "FL FOP FNDN", from three different numbers in three different cities:

561-807-0497 (Palm Beach Co.)
954-692-2262 (Broward Co.)
941-866-7923 (South Central coast)

I also see there are an awful lot of "support the charity" posts, oftentimes the first one in the thread. Methinks the telemarketer doth protest too much. Smells too much like professional, hired-gun telemarketers as opposed to a legit charity. Be guided accordingly.

In Palm Beach County, the Sheriff's office warns citizens against phone scams, some of them posing as charities.  Since it is impossible to verify the legitimacy of FL FOP FNDN 561-807-0497, everyone needs to send them this message:  If you are legitimate and obviously you have my name or my wife's name/phone number, put your pitch in the mail along with a verified audit showing what percent of the "donations" you collect actually go to the cause you purport to represent. Include a name and phone number of an actual law enforcement liaison for further verification, otherwise you are a fraud.

Most likely, these are telemarking bottom feeders getting around the Do-Not-Call law by posing as a charity.  Most if not all of anything you may "pledge" over the phone goes in their pockets.

Law enforcement authorities repeatedly warn NOT to give credit card or other personal information to unknown callers.

Be suspcious of anyone on this site who makes statements that FL FOP FNDN callers are legitimate. It's likely the telemarketers themselves attempting to counteract the growing frustration and rage.

Anyone who calls from 561-807-0497 during early morning hours or on weekends is in violation, charity or not.

We're working to actually track this telemarker down, get a restraining order, shut off their phones, expose them by name, home address and home phone exactly who is behind these telemarketing preditors.

If you get a call and a hangup, they are most likely using a predictive dialer, also unlawful.

When I received another call at 10:38 a.m. today, the caller failed to properly identify himself by first and last name and to clearly state up front the purpose of his call.

This was the second call from the same number in the past month.  It is obviously an outbound telemarketing line.  That's why you can't call it back or no one answers. Spoof cards available cheaply on the Internet allow callers to plug in any area code, number and business name to fool your caller ID.  Makes you feel real comfortable, doesn't it?

Only give to charities you know, trust and can verify.  Legitimate charities don't annoy and hang up. Legitimate charities clearly identify themselves and offer a call-back number, corporate address and will comply with requests for written materials via the postal service.

If enough people who actually get someone on the phone scream back at them repeatedly, maybe they'll get as sick and tired of it as we are of their relentless calls.

Meanwhile, here's a warning to FL FOP FNDN.  We will find the telemarketing preditors and reveal you and determine if we can take legal action against you for invasion of privacy and harrassment.   We have a right to be left alone.  Charity or not, once anyone on the Do-Not-Call list asks to be removed from your list and not be called again, you ARE required by law to comply.  That means you are committing a federal crime if you call again.

They're calling to help the Florida Fraternal Order of Police with their fundraising efforts. I called the number back and was directed to their customer service department. They can answer your questions, help with donating, etc. You can also go to floridastatefop.org for more information or to contact them.

The FOP are doing great things to help police officers and their families.

lEGAL SCAM. This is a fund raiser. Only a small % actually gets to the Fraternal Order of Police foundation. Most of your $ fund the fund raiser and telecom solicitors. I know, I used to be one till I heard the other telemarketers relentlessly "working" old people on fixed incomes. It's a sad scene, the callers try to make you think they are actually cops, without saying so. It's pretty disgusting, I quit the job and refuse to support it's proliferance. Donate directly, to me this is BS.
