Received a phone message today from an investigator "John Richards," claiming he was hired today to conduct an investigation for a preliminary trial.  His number came up as "private"  on my caller I.D.  He didn't provide any details or a call back number for himself.  He gave me an attorney's name and phone number: William Clark 602-788-1096.  I found the information on line about this being a scam and have since filed a report with the F.B.I. And have a call in to the Secret Service.

This idiot just called today, thanks to this website we found out this is a scam.
We already reported this scam to the Arizona Attorney General.

Thanks to this wonderful website, we decided to alert our attorney about this scam from Arizona. We believe this is a scam from C2C Debt Collectors, since they have been harassing us for the last two months.

The same thing happened to me today at work. The person said his name was Robert Richards and he worked for William Clark. He said that he was hired to investigate the company I work for. He left the same number (602)482-2636 as a call back number. Luckily, I found this site, and discovered it was a scam before I got too worked up about it.

I got a voice msg that said I'm under investigation. The caller said he was a private investigator and did not leave his name or phone number.  However, he said he was his client was a William Clark and asked me to call 602-482-2636. After researching and finding this site I don't think I will be calling that number. What is even weird is that the phone is not even in my name.
Something should be done about this!

I saw this phone # on Caller ID a few days ago.

This is scary information. The only time I've given out my land line, which is not listed under my name, was to apply for a title loan, and that is the number this party called on.

I received a call from a man named Alan White who advised I was under investigation by William Clark and I needed to call him at 623-465-2575. The number he called me at is not even listed under my name. Who ever this party is, had to get my number for somewhere I left it at...however, I've not applied for any credit under this telephone number at all.

Could not come up with a better name then the STAR who played Captian Kangaroo?

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):

If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors

This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
?    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
?    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
?    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
?    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

I got the call today from Rick Steele and told me he worked for William Clarks office and I was under investigation. This is a scam

I also received a call from William Clark.  He was very polite and helpfull over the phone.  He answered all my questions.  My company owed his client alot of money and I worked this out with him.  I just want to thank William Clark for all the help he has given. Thank you again Bill.

Yes, this is still happening - needs to be reported to FBI as its fraudulant.

The spouse of one of my clients received a telephone call from this number, identifying a Superior Court case number and purporting to be a private investigator, "Mike Conrad", hired to investigate assets for an "Executor" "William Clark"; the caller attempted to obtain confidential data. The telephone number provides only a voice message for a William Clark, who will not return the calls. If you receive calls from this number, please file a consumer complaint form with the Office of the Arizona Attorney General, which is available online.
