We all need to stop making payments and REFUSE to deal with these agencies, and either get our debts wiped clean(as Egypt and all the money we give to Pakistan and others...like the 6 billion stolen in Iraq!) or demand a payback schedule and amount that is fair.........Collectively we can stop this illegal harassment of students and graduates. ....sounds like what the Nazis did......

They keep calling and they don't leave
messages. I do not have credit cards
and do not owe anyone money.  I believe
they are dirt bag scammers trying to get peoples
personal info so they can rip them off. Don't
answer the phone. They will get tired of
getting voice messages.

They keep calling me and, in a voicemail, ask for my ex-wife (we've been divorced for over 5 years). I haven't answered, but may get on their website and do some snooping of my own....then report them to my state's AG office.

When you don't pay a credit card, it goes to their own collection department. If they can't collect, they "charge off" the debt and get reimbursted from their insurance company and they debt is listed as not collected. The "bottom feeders" then pay pennies on the dollar to buy that debt and continue to call and harrass the person who owed the debt.  They will call your neighbors, relatives and even your workplace to embarass you into paying. They usually offer to "settle" the debt for less than the original amount owed because it is all pure profit for them. They can not provide you with any proof you owed the debt because they don't have that information. The original creditor does not give them any proof of what you charged or any payment history. They contiue to add interest on the debt as if you owed it to them originally. If you make the mistake of trying to settle with them, they will empty your bank account if they have that information. They do not have the authority(no matter what they say) to report to the 3 major credit bureaus that you paid this debt off and take it off your record. Only the original creditor has that option, so if you want to make good on a debt, pay the original company NOT a debt collector. And you question why they are called "bottom feeders" and they are only doing their "job"! You must work for them if you think they are honest decent working people! The government gave the banks millions to bail them out and we got squat. Oh wait...we got the "bottom feeders" bothering us to collect on money they really are not owed!

So...  I just got a call from them.  I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.

My question is, though, what are you supposed to call and report on them about?  If they're collecting a debt, they're just doing their job.  Not a job I'd want, but someone's going to do it.

Why the "bottom feeder" designation?

I had no idea, I just answered the telephone. They asked for a person that I had never of and I said they did not live here and never heard of them. The Government stops everything else, so I guess they do not want to stop them from bothering people. The house next door to me is being demolished. They always kick you when you are down. I have enough problems.

Collection agency.
This is the usual bottom-dwelling criminal trash.  They have harassed some for their social security numbers and even made threats to others.  BTW, if you confirm anything, you are asking for identity theft or having your bank account cleaned out, which is common if you try to deal with these kinds of organizations.

They buy a lot of old debt that has passed the statute of limitations.  Don't bother with them, AND DEFINITELY DON'T TALK TO THEM.

Go to their website, Immediate Credit Recovery, click "Healthcare", and then click the link to their HIPAA privacy policy.  Read it carefully.  They have access to all your medical records if you owe for medical (in addition to every thing else), and are not making any guarantees as to the safety of your private medical information with their employees.

This company should be reported to the Attorney General in every state.  If they call you about any medical payment issue, make sure that you report them right away.

Debt Collector
I was forced to report them to the BBB. They debited my bank account without authorization on 4 occasions and my bank eventually took over. They filed disputes to return my funds, shut down my account, reopened a new one, and transferred all of my merchants to the new account. They're shady and illegal. When the BBB contacted them about my complaint, they denied even having an account with me but in the meantime, they were debiting random dollar amounts from $65 to $200 3-4 times a month out of my account.

Whether it's school loans or medical bills, do NOT work with them. Even if you're making your payments on time, they will find a way to charge you more. Trust me, I was making my scheduled payments on time each month and when they realized they weren't getting any extra late fees, etc, they started debiting me 4x a month.

If at all possible, go back to your original creditor and ask for your account to be pulled back. Most times, they will because they'd rather be paid themselves than their collection agency.

I was set up on the rehabilitation plan with ICR and had already paid the first payment. They had my direct phone number since I had called them to set up the progam but they started calling my boyfriend's phone number and refused to tell him how they had gotten it. He told them it wasn't my number and that he didn't want to be called but the rep went ahead and kept talking, saying that I owed a debt and that he needed to get me to call them immediately. He told her it was illegal to be telling someone outside of the account holder about any alleged debt and that I could sue ICR for illegal disclosure and she began screaming at him about how she knows how to "do her damn job" and then hung up on him.

Since this loan was originally with the Dept of Ed, I'm not sure if I can contact them directly and ask to pull my account back so I don't have to deal with ICR anymore. They're such a headache and will say anything to get you to pay.

All you have to do to fix that is cut your income tax withholding to the minimum.  Then there's no return to take lol

People seem to treat a tax return as a quasi-gift from the government.  It isn't found money, it's your money.  And why would I want to let anyone hold my money?  I set aside a little every week and then I cut them a check on April 15.

They use many illegal tactics without fear of lawsuit. They have telephoned many members of the community(out of the phone book) and telephoned relatives , all the while they had my contact information. It was done specifically to harrass!   My loan is disputed and I would like to sue the collection agencies, however there is a 1 year, only ONE year, statue of limitation while there is none for them to sue me, and the damages are capped at $1000.00! Where are my Civil Rights?   I would like to join a lawsuit against them. There must be some way for us to ban together!

This agency has been hassling me for months and have even contacted a prominent member of a board I'm on and asking for my phone number and any other info on me, even though they have all of my phone numbers.  This is, undoubtedly, an intimidation tactic.  I have complained to them about it, but they continue this practice.  If there are any more (hopefully many more) that wish to sue the DOE and agents like this one, please SPEAK UP.  They need to be stopped!!

You are 100 % correct as I have been arguing that for decades. It was NOT in the original agreement!  It was legislatively changed during the Reagan years and the federal courts ruled that it was illegal during the Clinton years. I think Bush reinstated the policy. It is obvious that it is questionable at best. My opinion, and others, is that it is no better than a  street loan. I think our federal government owes us much more. These collection agencies that they hire and oversee break EVERY federal law in their collections. So why should I pay these lawbreakers and deal changers? Why would I pay them money that I do not owe?Easy answer is that  I don't. I would like to see all of us in this position sue, collectively, the federal government and all their strong arm people(coolection agencies) and resolve the issue forever.

You're wrong about the 20% collections fee being illegal. Any government secured loan (yes including student loans) have included in the original terms that a collection penalty up to 20% will be included on any loan that goes into default.

Just a little FYI, student loans are non-dis-chargeable and there is no statute of limitations either. They sit there and accumulate interest & penalties until you pay or die. Also don't plan on ever receiving another federal tax return, they will withhold them and apply them towards the debt. The sad reality about that is that in most cases each year all that covers are the interest and penalties, I've seen loans that have annual tax returns applied but yet the amount stays the same forever.

The best thing to do is (assuming is is a Direct Loan) just send in $50 per month , try to send it out the same time each month, for 9 consecutive months. After your 9th payment, contact Direct Loans and say you were in the loan rehabilitation program. Even though you never contacted the collection agency for this you automatically qualify after 9 payments & this also prevent you from a wage garnishment. the best part is that after your 9th payment, your loan comes out of default and that 20% fee is also removed and your loan goes back to collecting regular interest instead of the defaulted rate.

This also applies for FFEL loans, but you actually have to contact the agency,  sign an agreement and the minimum payment is based on your loan amount 9 months in the future (the funding date, when your loan will be sold).

Government loans are the only loans that you can't run & hide from. The longer you wait to pay, the more $ it will cost you in the long run. Its much easier to not pay a credit-card company or bank then it is to avoid paying the US government.

Called me too. Probably about my Student Loan debt that I refuse to pay since Collection Agency added 20% on top of my regular debt. They won't get a dime from me until the remove this fee. This is illigal if the original creditor's agreement states that debt collectors can add fees and if the local state government prohibits these types of fees.

Got a call from (678)784-0940 fishing for ss#!!!!  Caller claimed to be searching for info on bogus name, claimed regarded something "VERY IMPORTANT" wanting to verify ss#.  Caller would NOT identify name of his Organization, or explain purpose of his inquiry...though repeatedly requested to do so.  He finally asked if (named supposed last four digits of a ss#) was correct.  Hung up on the caller.  Caller ID showed, "Immed Cred Rec."  ...real, real creepy call!!!
