They called me and attempted to get me to pay a huge debt with the same tactics.  I spoke to a lawyer and he sent them a letter requesting that they validate the debt.  Of course, they were unable to do so.  Also, there tactics are illegal according to the laws governing collection agencies.  Any infraction can be sued for $1000 for each offense.  I suggest keeping good records and going after them.  Easy way to make the world a little better and to put some cash in your pocket.

first a Tim Johnston called my father in another state and said I'm being sued for fraud. Then Mr. Tim Johnston called to say that he was a "paralegal investigator" and that an attorney was sueing me. And the paperwork was going to be sent to my parents house. He then hung up on me.

4th generation lawyer? I sincerly doubt you even graduated high school friend with that type of ignorant response. Ignore this person as they are obviously a deadbeat in sheeps clothing.
Just use common sense in these cases. If you owe it, pay it. If you are unsure if the person calling is ligit then contact the original creditor and verify they placed the debt with them. Then pay it!
Deadbeats costs the paying customers more $$ and I personally am sick of paying for the criminals.

Did you owe the debt? If you do, pay it so I don't have to pay it for you with higher prices from whoever loaned you the money! Calling the police is just plain stupid. Fraud alerts on your credit report over a collection call? I bet they laughed real hard after hanging up the phone with you. I do not at all believe the statement they refused to ID the creditor. They would have no reason not to even if it was a scam, which obviously it wasn't. Do not join the corwd of deadbeats here in America, pay your debts and keep your commitments!

Do you owe for this credit card? Why did you not keep your commitment? You borrowed the money, pay it back. I would consider your actions an attempt to avoid the debt and consider you a crook. Trying to hash out who's name is on the caller ID instead of focusing on the debt is a typical deadbeat debtor reaction. Pay your bills, avoid the calls and for god's sake quit complaining about your own bad habits as being someone else's fault. Be responsible!

Typical response from yet another deadbeat debtor. People like yourself cost everyone more for goods and services. Most people such as myself keep our commitments and honor our agreements. When you borrow, pay it back. It's rather simple. Avoid the collection calls! If you are getting collection calls quit complaining as the only person at fault is YOU!

I see a lot of people complaing such as the person with the bad checks. Did you write bad checks on a closed account? That IS against the law and you are a criminal no doubt about it! Ever think that perhaps the guy you ripped off has a family to feed and his own bills to pay? To come here and complain about it is insane.
People who live off of credit then cant pay always complain about calls to collect what they owe. Here's an idea, don't borrow! If you have borrowed, pay it back! Do you borrow your neighbors lawn mower then not return it and expect him NOT to call?
People in America are just unbelieveable! Grow a sence of honor and commitment or don't ask for lines of credit to buy something you could never afford on your own and likely do not even NEED. If you cant afford to pay it back and get collection calls, suck it up cupcake! Do go on the internet or to the police to complain. You just look like a deadbeat and a retard!
I personally owe for just my home. I have credit lines but, never use them as I have cash to buy what I NEED. Wants can wait until I have the cash. Those that can't wait are the ones you see here complaining and looking for a loophole out of thier commitments. Time to grow up people.

Received a call from Glenn Eisenburg  claiming that they pulled my husbands taxes and said to avoid criminal prosecution we would need to pay immediately, scared I agreed to pay using a post dated check by phone, the next day I talked to a co-worker who informed me they are using illegal tactics, we sent a certified letter to Glenn requesting that he validate the claim within 30 days, received the return receipt from the letter, a few days later he calls said he works for an atty's office therefore, they do not have to follow legal procedures, he didn't have to provide by law and are going to file criminal charges for bad check, closed account) and would be contacting the local police department to file. He also stated in another conversation that he would be filing a lawsuit against us and gave a name of Jeannine who would start the procedures at the courthouse. Since then my husband and I went to the local authorities and have filed a complaint.

I also received a call from 716-433-4982 on 02/18/09 and said that we had a breatch of contract with Household Bank which was bought by HSBC.  Some master card we held from Nov of 2002 to July 2005.  The ID caller # above indicated a name of Jenny Johnson.  I talked to Marcus Webb and he said that he was not aware of the Jenny Johnson name but it could be that since they recently changed phone service to Verizon and that's where the name came from.  I certainly think this is very suspicious. I asked them to send me a certified letter regarding the breatch of contract and Marcus said that he was doing it right then. I have yet to receive it (03/02/09). Scares me on how much information they had about us.  SS# yet the name they asked for was not the whole complete name of who we were? Yes, contact the police, BBB, congress person, NY police, etc...

This firm is nothing but scum. The people that run this so called collection agancy are a bunch of thugs that will harass and prey on the aging. intimindate and forcing them into paying a debt they do not owe.
The same theame as what I am reading form other complaints. No documentation to affirm their complaint of debt. Will not show it, because they do not have it. I think the Atterny Generals office should look into this companies practice.

They say that they are a law firm, but would not give me any specifics as to who was suing me. They had way too much of my personal information so I reported them to the police in both NY and my city. Also, fraud alerts with the major credit agencies.

I don't have caller ID so I don't know the number but I received two messages on my answering machine From Hiller and Hoffman. The first was from Jacob Reilly saying I was named as a defendent in a lawsuit and urging me to call back to 1-866-686-4046 and refer to docket number 137330.  The second was supposedly from the boss Glen Eisenberg again urging me to call back, but the docket number was supplied in mid sentence by a computer. This is obviously a fraud.

I was very happy with the way Hiller and Hoffman handled my account. They offered me a generous settlement which I was able to resolve via Credit Card while Im living in Hong Kong. I would suggest talking to Mr Eisenberg, he seems to be the most helpful of all the employees.

Hiller and Hoffman is an Arbitration Firm located in NY. They work on behalf of you as the client and a group of corporate attorneys. Although they can not personally sue you....they do have the ability to petition and file a cival judgement against you. They outsource the cases to an attorney with the national attorney network. I would suggest just resolving the matter with them so you can avoid the lawsuit. Ask them to offer you a settlement and sometimes you can get the matter resolved for less than you actually owe.

I used to work for a law firm and I don't remember them ever phoning people to tell them they were going to be prosecuted.  If a law firm is suing you or prosecuting you - whatever - they put their case together, notify you in writing and see you in court.  If they're hassling you by phone it's because they're trying to extort money from you.  This firm is already getting a lot of negative publicity on this site - check out the messages left under 866-686-4046.  I'd ignore them; better yet, demand all communication in writing.  If you don't allow them to intimidate you on the phone, they'll probably go away, as the messages left under the above number seem to indicate they're a pretty sleazy organization.

Found as messages on my answering machine.  Said they were from legal firm Hiller and Hoffman.  Claimed I was being named as a defendant in a lawsuit.  Wanted me to call their toll-free number (866-686-4046) about docket #136329 so I could avoid prosecution.  Three calls over the past two weeks.  First two from "legal assistant Michael Wittner(sp?)," and the third from "chief legal director Glen Eisenberg(sp?)."  Funny thing is, they never specifically identified who they were trying to reach.  Never once mentioned my name.  Smells foul to me.  Awaiting call #4...
