"They" called me Feb. 15, 2012 at 12:36. I didn't answer because I was still in school. They didn't leave a message so I didn't call back. Google says 785 area code is in Kansas-ish. Fourth call from random place that I've gotten.

I've gotten random calls from a few different numbers all with area codes I don't know. I've noticed the last 4 digits of all the callers were 8989 not sure if that means anything... I've even looked up the area codes before, all random like California, Iowa, Nebraska, Connecticut. It's really annoy I get them about once a week sometimes they call twice in a row

Received calls: from this number on 2/8 and from 205 989 8989 on 2/27, would guess they are same type annoying calls from 2 locations. Apparently the "do not call registry" doesn't do enough sometimes. Calls came in on cell phone, I never answer when I don't recognize number. No message left of course. According to other reports, "they" are Spanish and apparently learn how to scam instead of learning English!

the number is 785-996-8989 got the phone call today 2-23-12..with a recorded rapid fire spanish speaker, didnt understand a word....but I do know some a**le latin, that probably submitted my name and phone number...get this dick off the line....

Received call at 11:38 a.m. from Wakefield, Kansas.  It was a spam caller in spanish.  So when you can't work in the winter, you place spam calls from hayseed locations in the midwest.  Only in America, geez!

I have metro pcs too..i just got this number maybe a month ago so whoever they may be calling for is not for me....some type of scam crap....at least they could have spoke english instead of spanish tho lol

They appear to target people with latin last names.

They also use the number 2059898989.

Seems like any 8989 number should be ignored.

My 9 year old daughter is getting this number on her phone, as well as 240-210-7112, a collection agency. How the heck are they getting her number? She doesn't have any accounts, her name and phone number aren't on anything. These have to be cold calls trying to get lucky. She doesn't answer any call when she doesn't already know the caller.

I received the same phone call and the message says, "If you would like to extend your p***s size by 2 or 3 inches, 20$ and a pill a day can make this happen".

it's a ROBO dialed call in Spanish/mexican language and there is no option to hear the call in any other language. The NEW FCC regulation can STOP these calls.
You may have to "wait" to file the complaint since the FCC got "hacked".
The other options is if you are with MetroPCS, they now offer and APP to "block" callers.

The FCC's rules go beyond Federal Trade Commission rules that have been in force since 2008.

"Too many telemarketers, aided by autodialers and prerecorded messages, have continued to call consumers who don't want to hear from them," said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski in a statement read at the meeting. These new overlapping rules seek to close loopholes in the existing regulations.

Under the new requirements, telemarketers will have to get permission in writing before placing an automated call to a consumer. Previously, companies that had an established business relationship with a particular consumer could call them without permission. For example, another FCC official not authorized to speak publicly explained, a bank could robocall one of its checking account customers to try to sell them insurance. The new rules prohibit that without written permission.

Information calls, such as school closing information and flight cancellations, are an exception. They can be made to land-line phones without written permission. Text messages and calls to cell phones are subject to stricter rules.

"Any type of phone call or text to a wireless device needs written consent," the FCC official added.

Telemarketers also will be required to let consumers easily prevent any future calls.

"Each and every telemarketing robocall will have to include an automated, interactive opt-out mechanism, so that a consumer can revoke consent by pressing just a few keys during the call," Genachowski said. The company will have to immediately disconnect the call and add you to their do-not-call list.

"Dead air" calls also are restricted by the new rules. Some telemarketers place many calls at once guessing how many people will answer the phone; if more people answer than there are operators, the result on the receiver's end is often the silence of a delayed response.

The new rules "strictly" limit the number of such calls telemarketers can make "within each calling campaign," the FCC said.

A telemarketing company that has a real person dialing the phone numbers is not subject to the new rules.

"Consumers' first line of protection against any call is the do-not-call list," the FCC official said.

Consumers can sue companies who violate these rules, the FCC official explained, adding, "We also take action based on trends of complaints."

Just declined call from 785-996-8989 and received very angry sounding message in spanish which I have no clue what she said, this is the 3rd time this has happened. Phone number states from Kansas, same as others number busy when I call back and I am on do not call registry also.

If you meant to say you live in the United States of America then let me tell you that the USA doesn't have an official language so cut this idiotic none sense of "I live in America and I only speak one language because I'm too ignorant to learn others, therefore people should dumb things down for me."

To report this phone number just go to the National Do Not Call website and report them. It's a recorded message so even if you are not on the do not call list you can report them.
