called at 10:37am, 12:49pm, and 2:57pm... and there were others from previous days.  I have yet to pick up, but they could at least leave me a voicemail if they want to talk to me so bad.

This is Verizon Wireless. It is a sales call trying to sell there service or if you have Verizon Wireless, additional services.

Claimed to be Verizon and wanted us to call another number and subscribe to text service...but we already have unlimited text messaging so it must be a scam.

These scammers are still at it.  Received the txt alert today about being 50+ messages over my limit.  First I have unlimited messaging, second I've only used 20 messages in the current billing cycle that ends within 3 days...

Called the number, a gentleman answered and quickly got to the point of acquiring my credit card information...  for WHAT??  I questioned him and he terminated the phone call.  If Verizon is actually to blame here which seems to be the response from customer service, they need to straighten the hell up.

If Verizon calls you or texts you on the cell, the only number you should be calling them back on from your cell is 611 -- anything else is bogus..

I recieved a text message from attached caller ID and asked me to call this number 1-800-957-7143 in regards to going over my test lines by 50+.  I called the number and got no verizon recording first but an immediate answer (was nice didn't think too much at first) but then the man asked me for phone number I am calling about - I gave it, then he asked me for my social number.  Now I am listening and hear in the background what I think was heavy metal music.  I asked him if I could call back the verizon number that appears on my bill to question this text message and he says "yes that will be fine thanks for calling.  I then called the phone number on my bill (got my verizon recording) and they did state that this one of their numbers they give and they are sorry for the inconvience and they are having computer issues not to worry I am not over my text message plan and all is ok.  Weird I still think.  I would recommend calling the number on your bill if you ever recieve this type message.

VZW does this to help you avoid high overages that might put a bad taste in your mouth about Verizon Wireless.  The texts/phone calls are based on the last 3 months of usage, so you may not currently be over your texting, data, or voice minutes.  They will offer to put you on the next plan up for service and backdate the plan, which will often bring your overages way down.  You can always switch back the next billing cycle if it was a one-time overage. If you are unsure of the validity of any text/call from VZW, dial *611 from your handset to contact Verizon Wireless customer service.  This is airtime free.  The number on the original post is authorized by Verizon Wireless.  The system is on a dialer and may not leave a message if you do not pick up.  For those of you who are currently on an unlimited plan, the system again does do a three month check, so if you were not on the unlimited plan until recently you may still receive a call.  Just a heads up.  VZW updated its plans on January 18, 2010.  For those of you who need unlimited minutes check them out on verizonwireless.com.  Again, the number on this post is authorized, but call *611 if you need VZW.  It is air-time free from your cell phone.

I have contacted Verizon Wireless and they tell me it is not a scam. However, I am not over my text messaging minutes so it doesn't make sense.  Regardless, I urge all of you to file a complaint with the FCC about this phone number.  You can do so very easily at: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
