A Sharon called and said she was from California Design and would be in the neighborhood to do home remodeling.  Asked if I could call her back, she said yes and then she hung up.

Many calls from this number a real pain.

After reading all the entries about calls from 800-999-8899, I will report that I have had several calls in which my phone ID shows "toll free caller". This morning I answered immediately because I was waiting for a call, quickly looking at the screen only to find out it was the same 800 number calling again. I asked why he was continually calling me, and he said he had never called before. When I told him there were three calls only yesterday, he hung up on me. I called the 800 number, and, as reported by a previous post, there was a recording from a fitness company, so I pressed 3 for Customer Service. I was disconnected. I called back and pressed 0 for the Operator, who explained to me that the problem had been reported and there was nothing they could do about it. As I was asking why they didn't change their 800 number, she hung up on me. I don't think the fitness company is legitimate either, as previously reported! It doesn't take more than a minute to politely answer a second question. I can put a block on this number through my service with AT&T, but it is a nuisance. Furthermore, I don't think the Do Not Call option is working as it was promised -- unfortunately!!

This 800 number belongs to Impex-fitness, but they are not the ones placing these calls. No benefit will come from calling this company, they are not authorizing these calls. Their phone number has been spoofed or hacked.

HOW TO THROTTLE BOGUS CALLS (updated 03/21/2012)

Ok, here's a solution if your phone has a contacts list--it works quite well on my iPhone, which allows unlimited phone numbers for any contact.

Step 1, create a contact named something like these names
           IGNORE JUNK CALL
           SCAMMING SCUMBAGS
           FRAUDSTERS LIST
                        .....
           
Step 2, select a SILENT ring type for this contact.  Or, select a distinctly unusual ring tone like
            CRICKETS or                              
            MOTORCYCLE  or
            RIFLE...

This lets you know if a repeat caller is on the line, but I prefer the silence myself.  My iPhone lights up showing the caller ID, even though I have a silent ring.

Step 3. Enable CALLER ID to be displayed for incoming calls that are made to your phone. It's a pity these stealth calls UNKNOWN, or OUT OF AREA, or their ilk, can't be blocked by any phone I know about. My iPhone won't let me put these names where the phone number field is entered.

So, what you do is to put the phone numbers of all bogus and scam callers that contact you, or try to call you, in this special contact.

Also, unless you recognize a toll free number owner, let all calls of this type go unanswered, and if no
voicemail is left, add the Caller ID (their  phone  number) into the                    IGNORE JUNK CALL contact.

Also add any other bogus calls
you get or know about, well they go in this contact too.

This may mean also all callers that don't leave a voice mail, or are soliciting you for services or products who you don't have a business relation with. And slime bags you don't want to talk to, like that jerk at the bar, or your ex.

For new toll free and also out of area calls: run these numbers
through Google search to see if they have been reported as junk or have been identified by others as scams.

Don't call an unsolicited  toll-free number back, it captures your own phone number, and you will get on other scam lists to call you.

Toll free numbers all have area codes from this list: codes 800, 888, 877, 866,  and codes reserved for future expansion include 844, 833, 822, 880 through 887, and 889.

FURTHER: Don't take the default voice mail prompt that came with your phone, because it usually
speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name as well.

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.

My list is long now, my silent ring saves me from tons of spam and scam, and yes, the do not call list is worthless, and toothless as well.

Please feel free to copy this post anywhere, and to any forum.

Consider writing a letter or email to your phone supplier, or your congressman to fix this awful state of affairs, and to put some teeth into the DO NOT  CALL law. Ask them to shut down the services that allow fake telephone numbers to be used as well.

This call is not a remodel scam. It is not a real remodel company. This is a private investigator looking to confirm your address. Do not speak to them. Do not confirm your address. They call from different numbers. They called me from 1-800-999-8899 - a spoofed number that does not go back to them. This is fraud and potentially dangerous.

This company always calls and asks for Cleveland, and then asks for the homeowner. One time they even called from a blocked number. The people at this company are probably the worse telemarketers I have ever encountered. Extremely rude and unprofessional. You'd think they'd wanna kiss your @$$ since they're trying to sell a product. I guess this company only hires trash.

This one is interesting - it's one of those telemarketers that "has a man on your street" and "can drop by for an estimate".  See my notes from above.

The 800 number ACTUALLY belongs to a legitimate company in downtown Los Angeles.  

Apparently this telemarketer steals their number on occasions and robo dials everyone.

I will call them in the morning and let them know that their 800 number has again, been stolen.

I now have the NEW Panasonic wireless phone system that blocks 250 numbers - my older Panasonic phone blocked only 30 numbers.

This number is permanently blocked.

This number calls about once a week, never leaves a message. ID as "unknown" but reverse lookup says it's from "Impex Inc" (some exercise fitness company) in Pomona. I don't know who they are and never requested information from them. I have answering machines that states I do not accept phone solicitations and that they're required to put my number on their do not call list (it cut down on a lot of callers but not this one). I have reported the number to the FCC in hopes it'll stop.

The caller 800-999-8899 , man called us 15:37, 04/11/2013 again, even I filed complaints on 03/25/2013.
The company's name is V411168839000122 ( Last call V325212470 ) on my phone. The man denied he didn't call before.  Then he hung up. I dialed 1-888-999-8899 , it is a sale company. I left a message not to call my number again.

The caller 800-999-8899, V325212470, to call us @11:20/A.M., 03/25/2013. and again it used 619-210-072662185  17:24 P.M. same day and 03/26/2013. I returned the cal 03/30/2013 19:18.  the message told me to leave my name,phone number and model number 7 parts I want. I left a message" Do not call us" 2 other person filed complaints with www.800notes.com since 02/15/2013

This number actually belongs to a legitimate sports fitness company.  I called the number and the legitimate company told me that they were receiving many complaint calls because of the scammers.  I suggested that they contact their telephone provider and file a complaint.  The lady I spoke with said that they already had.

At 10:54 this morning I got a call from a telemarketer (using the 800 number listed above) wanting to "send a guy by" to sell me solar panels.  They claim that their company name is CA Design Solar Energy.  I gave them the wrong address and a different name.  

Then the phone calls started coming in.  

At 11:47 AM - The second call came from a company named Just Do It ( 818 835-8550) wanting to verify my address - I gave them the same wrong address again.
 
3rd call 1:02 PM - They called again (just Do It)  and said the salesman would be here earlier than expected.  OK!

4th call 1:04 PM - Just Do It called me again, this time using the phone # 818 835-8551, stating that the man was at the address I gave them and couldn't fine anyone home - well duh!

5th call 1:12 PM - A company named J & M (phone # 818 835-8553) called asking where I was...the solar salesman was on my street and needed to meet with me.

At 1:30 I called J & M (818 835-8553) and asked why they were using spoofed numbers.  They denied everything and hung up on me.

Called abt. 11:00 AM, no message left.  Called back and informed that apparently someone has hacked into their #.  Apologized and said they are trying to clear it up.
