Didn't catch the name of the company; caller ID showed "Toll Free Call." But when the caller (Amir, I think he said) told me "We are calling today about your Southwestern Bell Telephone account," I knew it was a bogus call. Southwestern Bell became AT&T quite a while back!

This number calls several times a day and last night called at 10:30 pm and again at 11:58 pm. I have yet to have a message left from them. I am going to report to phone company.

I received my first call from this number last week. The man had a heavy Indian accent and said he was trying to collect a debt with Southwestern Bell from...get this...1994! I told him he was way past the statute of limitations and hung up. He also asked if I was Linda R. (which wasn't my last name until 2007, and it isn't anymore).

I too have been getting multiple calls from this number for the past week. No messages left.
I called them today, they refused to tell me why they are calling other to say it is a "personal business matter" (I refused to identify myself).
They claim they will remove me from their list. I had thought is was another company that I had some dealings with, so I had not blocked the number until today after I called them.
One minor point to those claiming Southwestern Bell/SBC is out of business. Sorry, you are incorrect. SBC bought the remains of AT&T and renamed the company to AT&T, so what was SBC is now AT&T. AT&T did not buy SBC.
Southwestern Bell renamed itself SBC years ago. They merged their cellular business with BellSouth's cellular business and formed Cingular. Then Cingular bought AT&Ts cellular business and merged it with Cingular. Then SBC bought BellSouth, then SBC bought the remains (except for Bell Laboratories) of AT&T and because the AT&T name has so much value renamed the whole company "The New AT&T".

This 1-886-428-9940 "Toll Free" has been calling me everyday (3 times each) for a week, and hanging up. I suspect a SCAM where they log the times you answer, and then sell that "time of day" information to other tellascammers so telemarketers know what time of day a "real person" answers the phone.
Regardless --- report these people to the National Do Not Call Registry -----
This group of scammers is associated with another called Thoroughbred RE telemarketers. If you get a call from one, next week you may get another call from the other group. That's a new telescammer tactic, they change the number and group they are calling from once they know when you will answer the phone.

Continuously calls me twice a day everyday for about two weeks. When I pick up the phone no one answers me and they won't leave a message. I call them back and I get a message saying that I have reached them after business hours but won't tell me which company has called me. I refuse to leave a voicemail message to a company who will not stop calling ME. I am tired of my cell phone going off twice a day to get no answer when I do pick up the phone and have it blocking up my phone when I leave it be. This isn't funny and I do not appreciate it.

Guy with heavy Indian accent said he was calling on behalf of his client Southwestern Bell for an overdue bill. Southwestern Bell hasn't been in business since 2005, and I don't owe them anything, so I asked him to mail me something in writing, showing what I owe. He gave me the address he has on file for me, which is all the way across town from me, and I never lived anywhere near there. He was just calling me because we are listed in the phone book and Garcia is a very popular name. You think in a town that's 50% hispanic that I'm the only S Garcia? No way, Jose. I told him he had the wrong person and asked him to take me out of his database.

Mine seemed a bit more scary - don't know if they are upping their tactics or not. Called and stated I owed $188 to ATT, however I pay my bill monthly and the phone wouldn't work by the time it got to collections so I knew something was off. He said to verify that he is a valid person to talk to to give me the first 2 numbers of my last 4 social and he would be able to complete the last 2 digits. ie.. I say 1 2, and he would say 3 4. He knew my last 4 of my social, so I assumed it was legit but chose to contact ATT directly because I knew there had to be a mistake. Gave me a 13 digit "account number" which is also completely bogus.
ATT checked everything this is more dangerous than just a bill collector calling for the wrong person. Be extremely wary. Like the others he also had an Indian or mid-eastern accent in my opinion.

Called early in the morning with no message. When I called back, someone with an Indian accent answered immediately. He said they were some diversified investment company calling for someone else...

How do these people get our numbers? I keep getting the same number: 866-428-9940. To all the "fine people" out there that make a living being a telemarketer or whatever fancy title you give yourselves, it's really not cool, and it will catch up to you! knock it off!!!

This number 866 428 -9940 came up on my caller id at 10:49pm Thursday night. Against the rules. If this is a collector and thank goodness for this information, I am getting ready to send them a letter. The letter will let them know that I know they viollated the FDCPA. I didn't even know who this was. If a number appears on my caller id and I don't recognize it, I don't answer. In this case, that late, wouldn't have answered anyway. Thank you all for the information. A letter will go out to allied interstate.

I have received several calls from this number, the first few they asked for someone with different name so i just told them they had the wrong number. This morning about 9 i spoke to a man with an accent, I told him he had the wrong number so he asked me what my name was, I told him I wasn't gonna tell him and I wanted to know his name and who he was with he wouldn't answer me and kept trying to get my name, I finally hung up. I called back and it went straight to him so I hung up again. Not sure how to make it stop, but its pissing me off.

Getting calls from this number 4-5 times a say starting around 6:30 am. First time, we happened to answer and stated they were from Allied Interstate Collection Agency working to "settle" a debt from 1998. They did have husbands name and partial address. After they threatened when he would not provide a credit card number, we hung up and have not answered since!

Man with a foreign accent, probably Indian, asked for a person who does not reside here, nor do we know the person. I pressed for the caller for the name of his business. At first he replied that "this is a diversified financial corporation". I asked again for the business name, and he replied, "Allied Interstate".
Strangely, this phone number appears as a FAX number for Custom Glass Products in Rogers, MN, south of Minneapolis (link: www.cgpglass.com/images/about_flash2.swf . Put mouse over MN to see the #). Allied Interstate happens to have a Minneapolis, MN, branch (http://www.manta.com/c/mm2yf55/allied-interstate-inc).
