The people above are telling you to contact Citibank directly so how can they be scammers?! I got the text too and also called the number on my card and it was a legit text. Don't know how to explain why some people seem to have gotten it when they don't have a card. But call the number on the back of your card always.

Actually I just got the text and it's real. I actually got a call about 20 minutes after I got the text. I called citibank on the actual number and someone had made a physical copy of my card and tried to charge over $400 on it. So it's real. Citibanks fraud department is great!

This number is in fact a phishing fraud - not Citibank.
The above are shills for the fraud posting fake reviews.

12/13/11
2 texts from 95686 (as quoted by Mikie above) Citibank Fraud Dept, call 800-386-6642 (and then 866-842-1359) so I called the # on the back of my Citibank card. YES, there was a fraudulent charge attempt of $5000.
Just to be safe, though, I would recommend calling only the numbers you have on your actual credit card, not something sent via an emergency text...that was really phishy sounding, although it turned out to be legit.

I received the text today, 11-7-2011, and it was legit. It stated, "Free Text Msg:Citi Cards Fraud Dept needs to speak with you about activity on your acct. Please call 8003866624 ASAP and enter pin {I'll leave this number out}. To OptOut reply STOP.
I logged into my citi account online and called the customer service number instead. They did in fact send the text to me because I tried to make two purchases with ticketmaster online. They accepted the first one and declined the second one. Each transaction was over $500.00 so they wanted to hold charges on my account until I verified this activity. I'm glad the credit card companies take the time to follow up on this type of activity.

Just got this same text from citi card fraud department. i am pretty sure it's a scam
| RW 2011-06-06 21:03:18 Unknown |
Actually, this is a real text message, not a fraud. I never call the phone number back on something like this that I don't recognize or seems suspicious, so I called the phone number on my credit card, and they said yes, they had sent the message because of a recent charge that I guess didn't pass their tests for being a normal charge. I almost ignored the message, but in this case it was real and correct. For the person that didn't have a Citi account, maybe the person that DID have the account had entered an incorrect phone number on a contact form.

Genuine text message from Citibank. But it could easily be a scam. So RW's advice on 4/10 is good.

I just posted on another site but wanted to confirm here as well that this text was legit from Citi Card. I'll second CS - Fort Lauderdale's post agreeing with RW's advice. That's how I went about getting to Citi's Fraud Dept.

This is a fraud. I just spoke to two different people at citi, one from the number on the back of the card and the other is 1-888-285-9696 which is listed on citicards website for reporting suspicious email and txt messages. The phone number in the txt message does not belong to any dept at citi.

This is a legitimate number. Like RW, I called back the customer service number instead of this number, and there indeed was suspicion of fraudulent activity. I logged into my Citi account and got a warning with a different number to call back.
| Lee 2011-06-06 21:03:18 Unknown |
It is a real number from Citibank. If you get this text message, you can just go to your online account. There should be an alert to ask you to call a different number. You can just call the number shown in your account.

It's legit. I received a text msg earlier today asking me to call 866-842-1359. I logged into my account and had a security/fraud alert asking me to call Citi. I called them and was informed that someone was trying to purchase airline tickets in Saudi Arabia!!! I'm glad at least one of my credit card companies is on-top of their security. "Brenda" from Citi also confirmed the phone number in the text message.
