While the man was talking I looked up the area code. He told me that they were in Las Vegas and I could call them back. FAT CHANCE. He said that his name was Roy Green.(likely story). When I said that he was in Jamica he started screaming saying that he WAS in Las Vegas. I hung up!!

Prank Call
Just happened to my grandma...they didn't call the $250 payment a TAX, but a "finder's fee". Winner's International was the company name they used. They stated they had been trying to find her for a long time. Offered to come to her house that hour, which scared her. I convinced her they were in Jamaica, but still... Got the police involved, but not holding out much hope that they will stop these cruel people.

Never befriend strangers online. If you aren't on facebook, the caller got your number either by searching for your name, through the Do No Call List, random dialing, etc. Block that number and report him.

When I received a call from obviously a telemarketer, I hung up. He had a heavy foreign accent and stuttered a little.  The call was mad to my cell saying I had won $1.2 Million from Publisher's Clearing House. He claimed my name had been drawn from  some business on Gov. Blvd (a real street in Mobile, Al). All I needed to do was call the PCH phone number (the scam number) and speak to his supervisor. I said okay and hung up. Of course I didn't call back. Immediately he called me back and told me that I had to call the number "right now". I said okay, but didn't intend to call back (the local news had mentioned a similar scam). He kept calling again and again, and I kept rejecting the calls. I was told that when you call back the number, it goes to a call center in another country; and your cell carrying gets billed for astronomical fees for the call-then you pay it. Your cell pays the 3rd party biller. BEWARE!

I just received a call from this number on 11/24/2012

they called and told me that I won 2 million dollars from publishers clearing house. I think I actually heard snickering in the background. but anyway, I knew this was probably a scam so I asked them to prove that it's not a scam and this Jamaican guy just kept asking if I remember entering in a publisher's clearing house drawing, which I never have. Also, my phone number is brand new and I haven't entered it in any contest entry. ever. this is clearly a scam and they need to be reported!

This ******* just called me talking about I won PCH 1.9 million giveaway and instantly I asked him was it a scam because in these times no one is giving away that much money anymore not even PCH. When asked he seemed offeneded. This scam has went from the email to your cell phone now. Watch out for anyone calling from 876 with a heavy but bad accent.

I too got a call from this guy with a heavy forign accent claiming I had won 2.5M and he claimed it was from Publisher's Clearing House.  I told him I did not enter their sweepstakes and he said it was because I shop my favorite stores and pay my bills on time...what a crock...the two don't go together.  He thought I still lived in Mobile, AL so kept mentioning that and said they would award the $ tomorrow approx 11:30 am and kept saying "OK?"  I pressed him to tell me my address and he finally hung up.

I just got a call from this guy with a heavy foreign accent saying I had won 2.5M from publisher's clearing house.  They stated they needed to verify that I am trustworthy or something like that and something like they would award me the $ tomorrow at approx. 11:30am.  When I pressed them to tell me what my address is they finally hung up.  Sure would like to know how these jerks got my ph#. My phone is from Mobile, AL but I don't live there anymore so they kept saying something about Mobile, AL but would not tell me my address...publisher's clearing house would know that and not have a problem verifying it.

I must be a big fish. I was told I won $5.5 million just and hour ago. They said they would call back with their supervisor to give me their web info. I was listening to this video (of a radio show) the other day were Tom Mabe messed with a telemarketer and said he was the police and Tom was murdered. I have to think of a way to dog these guys and record it so I can post it.

You would think they would learn to speak better American if they are going to scam us.

This is MOST DEFINITELY A SCAM.  This team of people are calling from Kingston, Jamaica telling people that they won some money and that they have to pay to get it.  It's one of the oldest scams in the book and I'm surprised that people are still falling for it.  Please don't be a victim of this out-dated scam.  They don't even have the brain enough to use a different number.  This guy, Victor David, said he was calling from Publisher's Clearing House.  Get this, he was even dumb enough to exclude the word " House " in the name of the company.

My husband got a call from cash awards supposedly out of Chicago with the great news that he had won 2.5 million dollars but he needed to get a money pack card for only $4 from walmart and put $450 on it for the irs. We played him and shot questions at him for at least half an hour. Bill said he would call me back at 9 am the next day to see if we got the card and put $ on it so they could deliver my prize money. In the meantime, I called the police in my town and got advice on what to tell him the next morning. Sure enough he called the next day and I said "This is a bunch of b***s***" and he hung up on me faster than I could hang up on him. My husband and 4 friends won the Illinois lottery 15 years ago and we took him to Springfield lottery agency. We got the winnings after the agency took out the taxes on amount won so we knew that this was a scam, a big one. But sadly some poor sole is going to fall for this scam especially since the economy is what it is and people think they just got lucky. Too bad!!!!

phone scam. very persistent and they like to talk real loud to sound excited. A real sweepstake win will nevewr ask for you to spend money.  If this was reall the irs would take its cut before you got it.  I would suggest and do what i did: answer the phone and walk away wasting there time like they do to you.

We got the same call, they claimed to be from the megamillions illinois lottery, drawing contest. They also said that we had won 2.5 million dollors and that it would be delivered within the hour from UPS. They then asked me to call a number back at 1-876-489-6209 to talk to a guy named Victor and verify that we would be home to recieve our prize money. I called the number, mostly out of curiousity, and my long distance carrier blocked me from making the call, come to find out because this number is based out of Jamaica and not a US number. There must be some kind of recourse to take against those trying to prey on US citizens. I am not so easy to be fooled, but they will surely find an innocent, trusting person and completely take advantage of them. I am going to look into what can be done about this.

PHONE SCAM!!!! .... "Cash Awards Co." called my wife informing her she won $2.5M and she needed to get a $350 MoneyPak payment card along with her Drivers Liscense #.  Luckily I intercepted the call in the middle (happened to be home for lunch), and as I questioned the individual, he indicated UPS was on their way over being escorted by the sheriff (I guess latter to make it seem quite official) planning to deliver $1.5M in cash and another $1.1M in certificates.  Apparently the certificates were going to require the delivery team and my wife to drive to nearest banking institution for deposit.  In any case, "What's the $350 for and when is it needed?" .... Well, $350 apparently needed to register with the IRS to avoid taxes and suffice it to say, he avoided specific discussion on when this payment was going to be transacted.  Hope this helps someone avoid the same.  Luckily did not transact the MoneyPak.  If it's too good to be true, it probably is!

They called me today as well on 06/24/2012 claiming that they were coming to my house. So I asked for specifics, once I confirmed it was a scam, I spilled a bunch of BS back to them. Told them my name was Richard Sorge. XD

They "pull" their info right from the internet...
They also use sequential dialers. I have been called repeatedly from them.
When they do get your info from the internet, they will call you by name, but usually they will GUESS or ask for a common name such as Robert.
Be forewarned! if you "publish" your info on Facebook,Linkedin,Myspace, even Craigslist YOU ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE!!!! Facebook gives your personal info to people you "Friended" and if they are dumb enough to allow anyone to see their info, THEY GIVE YOUR INFO AWAY!!!

Just got a call from a guy who said his name was Roby Mosley Jackson and he worked for Cash Awards in Montgomery AL and I won $2.5M from them. Obviously a scam call I kept pressing him for an address where they were. Finally he hung up on me. They are obvious running a large scam. Trying to figure out where they are pulling numbers from. Any of you have a number posted on any type of business brokerage sites?
