Just received a call from these thieves......almost got suckered in.....thank the Lord for the Holy Spirit that lives inside of me.....these people were from Charisma Magazine...or so they said....but you'd think Charisma would hire employees with godly character traits.  Uhmmmm, that didn't seem evident in the phone conversation AT ALL!    Anyway, so so glad I didn't  give them my number!  Same way the others said about the number 4, etc. was the same way that they did me!

Caller contacted my wife regarding a Popular Science subscription I had dropped several years earlier.  Told my wife I had failed to give required "10 day notice" and they were filing legal action.  My wife then gave credit card info to pay the subscription.  Found I was charged $89.97 for a 3 year subscription that only costs $28.00 through Popular Science.  I traced it back to Publications Unlimited, then to a company only identified as M A H 608810507, then to a "Magazine House".  They said they would refund my money but I'll believe it when I see it.  The number for Magazine House was 877-220-7004.  I also sent a complaint to Bonnier Corporation the parent of Popular Science about this practice.

got a blocked call from good housekeeping.  the man told me they did not accept checks for payment anymore and they needed my credit card number.  would not give it to him so he said I would not receive my subscription. I suppose he got my phone number from the check I sent for payment. This has to be a scam and evidently it comes from an employee of Good Housekeeping.

This number called us tonight, offering us a renewal for soap opera digest for $2.28 an issue.  Told them it was way out of the price range.  The agent said he would give us a professional discount to $1.92 per.  Told him (Marvin Anderson) that was still too high.  He agreed to speak to the manager.  Within 5 (five) seconds he returned with a price of $1.73 per issue.  Asked who he was with. Agent said he was calling from soap opera digest directly. we demanded the call back number and we would get back with them. # 1 you can't deal with any manager that fast. #2 we checked with soap opera digest directly and a 1 year subscription is Less than $1.00 per issue.  Called the number back and discovered it was not soap opera but magazine solutions.  Told them I wanted the best price possible they gave me another price.  When confronted about them not being with soap opera directly they said they were a authorized agent.  Told them what I could get the subscription for they offered to put me thru to the subscription manager.  Instead I asked to be put ona do not call list.  Do not trust these without Ascertaining what a subscription would cost direct from company and from trusted sources.  This is NOT a trusted source!

Received a call earlier today (Dec. 15, 2011) saying that they wanted to renew my Car and Driver subscription for 3 years at $9.99 per...told them the wife just recently renewed it for me, since it was up and we changed addresses...then his supervisor told me the last information they had was my old address from 3 years ago...asked me to verify my credit card information (fortunately it's an old card that I don't have anymore), saying it started with a 4...told them I wanted to talk with my wife first and I would get back to them...don't you know, they just called me back asking if I got in touch with my wife yet!! Told them I would call them tomorrow...then I googled the phone number they gave me and found this site...thanks for all the input...I gotta think of something I can pull on them...

Just got a call to renew my Rachel Ray mag at a greatly reduced rate.  I said ok, and he said he would have his processing dept. call me back.  Again, the same story about a visa starting with 4.  I don't even have a visa card!!!  When they called back and I said I wouldn't give any info over the phone, esp. to a private number, he said the private number was for my protection and it couldn't be hacked to get card numbers.  "Brian Wilson" said that you couldn't get a 877 number without being registered with the BBB and I could check them out online.  This deal could only be held for 20 minutes, so please call back quickly.  Yea right!!

Hucksters!

They seem to have access to old magazine subscription information as they have old addresses and other miscellaneous details about magazine subscriptions I've had in the past.  One of their sly tricks is this: "I need to verify your credit card number.  I can only see the first digit which is a four."  They know this because *all* VISA card numbers begin with 4.  "Disregard the renewal notice from the publisher."  I hadn't received one because there was almost a year remaining on my subscription.

If Your Magazine Solution was legitimate they would not resort to deceit.  Anyone who solicits credit card numbers over the phone should be treated with suspicion.

I got a call today 6/24/11.  The guy said my magazine rate was going to skyrocket.  He wanted me to renew for 2 years at 19.99.  I still had 6 months left on my MAXIM which I paid 15.75 a year.  He transfered me to Fred who said they had my VISA card on file beginning with a 4 and if I could give them the rest of my card numbers they would cut me a good deal and give me MAXIM for 12.00 a year.  I told Fred that ALL VISAS BEGIN WITH A 4.  ALL MATERCARDS WITH A 5 AND ALL DISCOVERS WITH A 6.  (So don't play me for a fool.)  He told me to call him right back in 2 minutes because he had a toll free number and any business with a toll free number had to be registered with the Better Business Bureau.   I told him I'd call him back on the 27th.  That gave me time to research their credibility.  This was the first site I found and obviously it's a scam as it didn't take long in reading similar "deals" others were offered.

Got a call from Jeramiah about a "renewal" I sent in for Soap Opera Digest (for my wife)but not paid for.  He insisted I had sent in a renewal card but did not pay for it.  I asked him directly "Who do you work for?" He stated Soap Opera Digest.  Anyways I got his number to call back.  In the meantime I called SOD and found out my subscription did not expire 'till March 2011.  SOD said Jeramiah was from a re-seller but did not approve of their tactics. Called Jeramiah back told them what SOD said and he STILL insisted I give him a credit card number because my subscription was extended and I had not paid it.  I offered to call SOD back to verify this but by then he had hung up on me.  Thank GOD I did not give them any info.  Who knows where it may have ended up.

I got a call from this company. They were very evasive about the name of my company and tried to renew my subscription at a lower rate. I started giving my CC# (stupid) and stopped before I finished realizing I had no idea who they were. When I started to say I only did this in the mail and not over the phone, the guy insisted the tried mailing me and I had previously given my info over the phone. That's so wrong because I never do that.

So I asked for a supervisor and he got real pissy with me when I started challenging him for info. He said he's from "Your Magazine Solution" and his name is Robert. When I said I didn't order magazines over the phone like this, he said "Yeah, sure you don't. You never ordered that (insert magazine here) over the phone years ago. I'm not arguing with you" and hung up.

Scammers, big time.

They offered me a renewal on my TV Guide for $49. They asked if we were still with a certain card. (We're not.) They wanted to get the new information. I wouldn't give it over the phone. After lengthy, but fruitless, pleading, they gave me the 877 number to call. This way I would be instigating the call. I found it amusing because "Adam" said "You can't even get an 1-800 number without being registered with the Better Business Bureau", then he gave me a 1-877 number.

Got a call today from these folks looking to renew Newsweek which doesn't run out for months yet.  When the first guy called and 'took my order' for a renewal, he said his subscription dept would call me back to verify the order.   When he called, he wanted my credit card number.   I asked for his number to call him back, he got upset, said it was urgent, all was in the computer and he couldn't leave it open, etc.  I got off the phone and checked online to find this is a scheme.  I was suspicious because they called me and asked for my card number.

"Don" called to offer to renew our subscription to The Economist.  When I said I didn't need to and that I had already renewed a gift subscription, he said there was a problem with the charge card.  When he couldn't verify the charge card number, he transferred me to "Karen," who said I was charged the wrong amount and that it would be to my benefit to extend the subscription.  Bottom line, Don and Karen kept "checking" things and calling me back while I checked my records.  "Don" was helpful and polite, "Karen" was nasty when I hesitated about renewing.  Masterful double-teamers!
They implied they were calling on behalf of The Economist.  I learned that they were Magazine Solutions from the people who answered their 877 number.

"Private number" on caller ID.  Caller said I committed to two years of Good Housekeeping at $14.95/year, and it's time to pay for second year.  I said I never have time to read it so I don't want another year.  He said it's too late, label was made up, I owe it.  He transferred me to person to take credit card number. She said it was for Woman's Day (which I don't get), said she had my credit card already but law requires that I give it to her again.  I told her I was not comfortable giving my number on a call not initiated by me.  I asked for phone number, name of company, she said it was "Magazine Solutions" at above number.  I hung up, checked my GH subscription online, it said I owe nothing and am paid through December.  I expect a call back, I'll watch my credit card billing.  Sent GH an email, presuming it's scammers.

Received a call 1-15-2010 to renew Better Homes & Gardens.  Told the gentleman that I didn't subscribe to that magazine.  He said that he meant Good Housekeeping and ask if that was a gift.  I told him that I always send it to my daughter as a gift and he said that's what he meant. I told him that I sent my renewal back and he said that they had received it but that I could renew today and save money.  He quoted me a price of $19.98 for 24 issues and that was a Senior Citizen price.  I could also renew my own for an additional $19.98 and lock in the cost.  He knew my name, address and obviously my phone number.  He ask for my credit card number and was there a middle initial.  I told him that I didn't give my credit card number on the telephone. I ask where he was calling from and he said Florida - I ask if he was from Good Housekeeping Magazine and he said that he represented them and was from Your Magazine Network.  He gave me the telephone number for Customer Service and I told him that I would call there and discuss my magazines.

I received several calls without caller ID from someone named Perry that wanted to call me about my subcription for More Magazine. He had called two times in the last week and reached my husband, because I was out of town. My husband answered the phone and asked who was on the phone after  Perry, or whatever he was calling himself, asked to speak me, Nancy. He didn't identify himself, but said that I had called and provided my cell phone number to him and that I had asked him to call me back. I never did either. The latest call was tonight 11/11/09 at 7:45pm and I was home. He again stated when my husband and I were both on the phone that I had asked him to call me back and that I provided him my cell phone number. I asked for his telephone number and he gave me the 877-220-7004 number.I decided to look it up on line and here I am. This is a definite sham. I am going to contact our local authorities as well.

Man from this number has called my 80 year old mother to renew her Soap Opera Digest for $39.95 for 52 weeks and wanted her credit card number.   He claimed this was an exclusive rate.  Since this was a cold call, she didn't feel comfortable giving her card number out (good for her!).   He did have her first 4 digit and argued with her that she should provide the rest.   She said she would call her daughter to get an opinion.   I told her never to give a credit card number on a cold call and then I went online and renewed it for her at the same price at Soap Opera Digest the caller insisted was an exclusive rate.

Man called back today and when she said I renewed online at the same rate, the telemarketer said that I (her daughter) lied to her and that there was no way that the price was the same.    I can't imagine someone doing that -- stating that her own family lied to her.   It's crazy.

Got another call from Shane on 9/11 trying to sell me the Soap Opera Digest.  I cut him off at the pass by telling him he already called me the day before.  He said, "I called you yesterday?"  And after I told him he called me enough the day before, I told him not to call me again and slammed the phone down very loudly in his ear.  No peace, even on 9/11.

Received the first call on 9/10 at 8:31 p.m. The guy wanted to extend my TV Guide subscription which was running out in January for $39.  Don't have TV Guide.  Then he said it was Soap Opera Weekly.  Don't get that either.  But I do get Soap Opera Digest so that was the one he really wanted to extend for $39 but was confused since he is calling SO many customers.  I wouldn't give him my credit card number and he was annoyed but would transfer me to the supervisor.  He disconnected me.  At 8:36 p.m. the supervisor called back to give me the great deal.  I told him he wasn't getting my credit card number and he should send me material in the mail.  He got nasty, raised his voice while telling me if everyone got paper invoices the costs would skyrocket, etc.  I told him he wasn't getting my card number, the first guy didn't even know what magazine I subscribed to, it was a cold call and I wouldn't give my number to a cold caller.  He gave me the above-referenced number to call back so I could see he was legit.  I told him he could forget it and I would just let my subscription lapse, he made a few snide remarks, called me "Missy" and hung up on me.  I was so incensed I was going to call Soap Opera Digest to tell them that if this is the type of people they hire to extend their subscriptions, they could stick their subscriptions.  On a hunch I googled the phone number and have found this site.  Obviously I am not alone.  These guys have quite a business going.  If they get enough credit card numbers from unsuspecting customers, I'd bet there will be quite a lot of identity theft/credit card fraud in the pool.

They've apparently branched out to Readers Digest (RD).  Got a call last night (9/3/09) from someone claiming that my recent renewal would be electronically processed at a new low rate of $9.99 per year for 3 years and they needed my credit card to complete the renewal for a total of $29.97.  Having been bitten in the past, told them I could not respond to a cold contact and that I would call back at the RD customer service number to see about the deal.  They then acknowledged that they weren't RD, said they were handling discount subscriptions for them and that RD no longer had a call center to process renewals.  They then gave the 877 number for me to call back ... I didn't. Called RD Customer service who informed me that my account was paid up through the Dec-Jan 2012 issue (my $15 subscription).  The agent also informed me that whoever called had no access to my account status so would have no idea that it was not due for renewal, and that they could process their own telephone/on-line renewals.  If you want a RD subscription ... go to RD Customer Services on line.  Believe the current online offer is $15 for 2 years.
