We repeatedly asked these folks to stop calling my mother. No such luck ... they continue to place repeated calls to her. We: 1) called the number back and put in the code and asked them to stop, 2) called her health plan (one of their subsidiaries) and were told they weren't doing it, 3) called United Healthcare and said they needed to stop it -- they claimed they weren't doing it, 4) talked to her pharmacy who said they couldn't do anything.

I know you guys are claiming this is a service ... but it isn't a service when you refuse to stop it.

This is a legitimate call from AARP United Healthcare Medicare coverage....they are reminding you to refill your prescription. I know when my prescriptions are due, and do not need to be reminded...I ignore these calls and never answer them. I also signed up for "email contact only", but they still call. Ignore the call.

It is a legitimate call, although bothersome. Health care and medical information MUST be verified by answering certain questions before they continue. It's a reminder to refill your prescription. Just because some people who work for a company aren't familiar with certain company program -- it is a HUGE company -- doesn't mean it isn't legitimate.

I have medicare now and am disabled due to a horrible car wreck in 2006 and have this plan but I hate computerized calls and want to talk to a real person. People need jobs so bad and the economy is bad and every call center in my town of Portland has closed down or moved to a state with a lower minimum wage. I called the customer service number yesterday and was told it would take 31 days to remove me from these calls and they gave me an opt out number and she told me that would take 18-25 days to take me off the list. I thought under DNC that they had to do it quicker than that. I do not want these calls and are annoying. I want to talk to a real person only. I have called the corporate office and left two messages and this number keeps calling me. I have read on here the DNC does not work. It is because there are too many complaints. I guess we all have to be jerks and yell and scream at the company for anything to be done but with this recording you cannot do that. It should not take no 31 days to take us all off. I hope I can block this number at some point but if it is not the last caller and you get other calls that day you cannot block 800, 888 and 877 numbers. It seems to me like United Healthcare or AARP does not give a DAMN. I did report it already to the DNC website but know it will do no good due to too many complaints and internet research I have done. When it calls me again I will press tons of buttons and foul up their system and hope that it disables it. I hate your guts United Healthcare for treating your customers like crap.

This is United Healthcare - if you have one of their medicare plans that includes prescription coverage they are calling to remind you of a prescription that needs refilled.  Please, stop and think and do some research before calling names and accusing.  This is a legitimate, and for some folks, very helpful service.

If you call it back and use the year of birth, they tell what needs to be refilled. Its done through the insurance company and can remove it. It is not a scam, and very easy to fix.

Survey
As Dan explains above, these are legitimate calls from United Health Care, but they are generally promotional in nature, or they may relate to prescription refills, etc. My mom and I made a conference call to customer service (800-950-9355) and were able to request that the calls stop. Also, we were told that another way to stop the calls is to say the the word "REMOVE" clearly into the phone when the automated voice begins requesting information.

I called this number back, it is a Refill Reminder msg from United Health Care, to be removed from their list, just say "remove" when prompted. I think this service of theirs is intrusive and relentlessly stupid.

My mother and I just called the main United Healthcare number to check on this. Instead of calling the 877-621-5783, we called the number on the back of her Medicare card to insure we were speaking to the right people. The UHC agent we spoke with confirmed that 877-621-5783 comes up immediately in her system as another United Healthcare office, and is described as an outbound calling survey being run in April/May of 2013 and perhaps longer.

Just FYI...

Prank Call
After a little research this morning.  I found information that indicated the number 7114148629 is an area code in several foreign countries.  If this is part of a security code they are asking you to enter; could it be redirecting your call?

I filled a complaint with the FCC and they responded.  The calls stopped.  They also suggested that I could take them to court and seek monetary fines or damages.  It is not United Health Care.  I had United mark my file with "No Calls - Contact by Mail Only" which United Healthcare suggested.  Yesterday the calls started again.  Whoever it is may be may be attempting to secure personal information.  They obviously have  your name which is easily obtainable from any number of mailing lists which merchants or others sell.  If you give them your birthday or part of your social security number you are setting yourself up for the possibility of any number of fraudulent uses.  United does not request personal information when they call you.  They already have it.  In addition, if you have automatic refills at your pharmacy, the pharmacy calls you when you are ready and only requests your date of birth when you pick them up in order to insure they are giving you your prescription,  I have verified this information with United and my Pharmacy.  The message is different at different times.  Some times they ask for the last four digits of your SS number, sometimes your date of birth and some times a security code.  They use rolling numbers so the same number may not show up each time.  They are a the very least telemarketers and at the worse scammers.  If the calls continue again, I plan to file a report with my local law enforcement sagency and also notify my media contacts.

This is a valid number and call. The call is a recorded message from United Health Care through AARP - Medicare. It might also be used for other UHC health plans. It is a reminder to refill prescriptions.  You will be asked to confirm your name and birthdate to make sure someone isn't pretending to be you.  If you listen to the entire recording at the end it tells you if you wish to be removed from receiving future reminders to say "remove".

I called Customer Service at UHC and this is a legit call concering your perscriptions are up for refill at your phamacy . You can enter the security code number they give you BUT they will NOT ask for your SSN so if that was to happen then you know its a SCAM and hang up. If  you listen to the message, you can say you don't want this call again and they will remove  your name from call list...hope this helps as I been ignoring the call thinking it was SCAM calls.

She called AARP United Health and was told this was not one of their numbers. Sounds like scam to me. Unable to find number on reverse lookup without paying for it.  Stay clear!

I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, IT WAS  AUTOMATED AND SAID IT WAS FROM UNITED HEALTH CARE AND AARP; AND ASKED ME TO CONFIRM THAT MY NAME WAS (THEY SAID MY NAME) AND WHEN I CONFIRMED MY NAME I WAS ASKED ME TO PROVIDE MY BIRTHDAY TO PROTECT MY PRIVACY AND CONFIRM IT WAS REALLY ME.  WHEN I REFUSED IT ASKED OVER AND OVER TO ENTER MY BIRTHDAY.  I HUNG UP AND CALLED BACK AND GOT THE SAME RECORDING STILL ASKING ME TO ENTER MY BIRTHDAY.  NEVER PROVIDE PERSONAL INFORMATION TO A COMPUTER WHO CALLS, EVEN IF THEY CLAIM TO HAVE IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE.  WHEN WILL THE GOVERNMENT CRACK DOWN ON THIS STUFF??  THE DO NOT CALL LIST DOES NOT WORK.

When you received the message did they have your name or was the name they were leaving on the message incorrect?  For two days in a row I have received this same call for a "Florence Helt" or something.  I work United and this message does not sound like anything we would put out and I have no idea how to stop it either.

I received an additional call from this number today.  I spoke at length with United Health Care and they stated they have received a huge number of complaints about this issue. They indicated it is not United Healthcare or any agency they have hired.  It is a toll free number that can be originating from anywhere.  Keep track of these phone calls. (ie. date, time and number) and file a complaint with the  FCC. They are also using rolling numbers and some insureds have received the same call from a different number.   I filed a formal complaint with the FCC this morning via the internet. It is quite easy to do.  I am also blocking that number from being able to reach my phone.  I was also able to file an opt out for telemarketing specifically with my own Insurance Company.  All future communication will be by US Mail.  These are a pre-recorded call that is no longer allowed by Federal Law unless you have given them authority to call you.  The law has been revised.

I suggest checking the FCC website for additional information on how to proceed.
