You should take the paperwork down to the police department and see if it is legal court documents or a fake. Impersonating a court officer is a felony.

I called the courthouse the next day and talked to the county clerk and asked if a ben thomas was a clerk there she said no and i proceed to tell her why i was asking and she told me contact the D.A. and let them know what is going on I gave her the doucment number the man gave me on the phone and my name and they checked the system and found no records at all on this situation... today I got a phone call from this John Reddum again and he told me he was from the AFG corporation and I was told not to take any phone calls from these people they are a debt collector company and I am not to happy about this to begin with because I had never used this card that they are talking about.  I never recieved a bill from this company and never recieved this supposed letter that they sent out to me on this matter...

I received a very nasty call from a Jeff McGee who told me that I owe almost $2,000 for an old credit card that I never applied for.  He threatened to put a boot on my car because according to him, they can legally do that.  He said that a summons will be delivered to my home or work.  He is quite rude and a bully.  A formal complaint should be filed against this company!!

I got a call on my cell phone from a man name Ben thomas saying he was a county clerk and said that a document came into his office and that i was being summons and if i wanted more information on it i was to call an 888 number for more information. I called the 888 number and talked to a John Reddum who then told me I was being sued by a credit card company that said i defaulted on the card and said that the they tried to 2 times to summons me and I said to him no one has ever came to my work or home to serve me papers for anything. He then precided to tell me that a company called AVG had sent me a letter about the debt and I had never recieved any letter from this company, to make sure I didn't receive any letter I went home from work and looked in my bill folder going through every single bill and there was no Letter from this company..  I do remember activating this credit and I never used it because at this time I new I didn;t have the money for any payments on a new credit card and I destroyed the card and never thought anything of it...  I started to think about the conversation with the gentleman on the phone and realized that when he was talking to me he said that he didn't know what county i was in and if i was being sued that this documnet that he was looking at would have this information in it...  I was told as a settlement for this card they wanted almost 1000.00 and I told him I don't even make that in a month and he said well maybe you can ask a family member or some one that you trust for this money and I told my mom and dad about it and they think it is a scam... I told my mom and dad also that this man said that fraud charges were being filed against me and I said to him I never used the card andhow could I have fraud charges against me.... Another thing that bothered me is when this Ben Thomas called my home phone he never said that he was a county clerk but in my cell phone voicemail he did say he was a county clerk... something is not right with this....

I just got a call from Jeff McGee regarding a account for my son.  My Son had offered to pay $50 a paycheck but they told him that was not acceptable.  So when I talked to him, he tried to get me to pay the bill upfront and let my son pay me back.  I told him I wanted my son to learn that he had to pay his own bills but would be willing to set it up so he could do the $50 per paycheck.  As soon as Jeff learned that I was not going to give him my account, he got really nasty and told me that he was going to teach my son a lesson and that the judge would make him pay.   Wow, couldn't believe the attitude change when he couldn't get my account numbers.
He was going to tell the judge that we denied payment and I mentioned about recording this phone call and he said he records every phone call and I said well you didn't tell me that you were recording it and then very very nastly, he said he didn't have to tell me read my state laws.  I hope he does take that rcording to the judge so they can see how nasty he was.
Now I guess we wait to see if he serves papers and then we'll go to a judge.

A phone call came in to my bf's parent's house (they live in a different state). When I called, they wouldn't provide me with any information about the original creditor, and they stated that providing attorney information was a "conflict of interest."  I asked Larry Brown for his email address and he stated that he doesn't use his work email for that purpose.  When I asked him to please send me something in writing he told me "Ma'am, this is the 21st century, we don't use regular mail as much anymore. All of our information is via email or fax."  I told him I wasn't comfortable providing him with that information, and he said "Then you'll just have to wait until you receive the court papers, good luck" and hung up.

Does anyone have any information as to the address of this company?

no, you do not have to appear in any court.  You cannot be bound by any summons left at your door.  Legal summons must be placed in your hand or the hand of someone handling your custodial care and affairs, if any.

My work told me that a company called and said that they were going to serve me with papers about a credit card. I had never heard from them before and they did not call me until the next day saying they were coming out. They seemed awfully eager to settle and when i asked them how to pay they said they only accepted credit cards or debit cards. They answer their phone "corporate office" with no company name. I spoke to a James Wirthin. I am calling my police department in the morning to see if they have heard of this scam.

These clowns are out of Corona California, i spoke to my local police and they said it sounds like a scam. They get you to make a payment and they keep the money while you think you've paid the debt. They called me and said they were going to serve me between 9am and 4pm, i'm still waiting. Court summons servers do not call you and tell you they are coming, they try to catch you by surprise. My advice is don't give them any money if you get served with papers then either go to court and explain you're situation to the judge, or try to contact you're creditor directly. But don't give these SCUMBAGS any money because they will just steal it.

As you know, "MasterCard" doesn't issue credit cards.  Only their member banks do, and MasterCard doesn't compete with their member banks, they process payments for them.

No real debt collector would be requesting anything "from MasterCard", whether they bought a CC debt or were assigned one to collect by the original creditor, as even unpaid credit cards would be owed to the member bank, not to MasterCard Interrnational, and the original records would reside with that bank.

It does conveniently avoid the risk that if they specify some bank, you would probably know if you never had an account with them.  Most credit cards are "VISA", or "MasterCard" through some bank, with a few Amex or Discover, but if you can be fooled into believing they are collecting on "your MasterCard", they know they have a sucker.

His only honest statement was that you were smarter than he was.  He's looking for suckers.
You didn't bite. so he hung up.

It stinks of a "con".

Is anyone finding suspicious inquiries on their credit reports dated just before the threatening calls?

If so, which reports?  Experian, Equifax, or Transunion?
Under what name?

If you have pulled your credit reports, are the alleged "debts" showing up on credit reports under their name as a "collection account", are they current or old paid off accounts, or are they not showing on credit reports at all?

Don't give them any money!  This is a scam.  I have been waiting for two weeks for a supposed subpoena on my wife and also paperwork.

Ask them for proof of the debt showing how the amount they mentioned was arrived at.  Do not do anything until you receive that, which you will never see.

The lawyer I spoke with did some checking on the address.  He said that it was a drop box at some mail box rental business in Lake Elsinore, CA.  He also said that they are not bonded to operate in Texas and that I could sue them and get about $ 1K.

Debt Collector
My mother-in-law called me at lunch yesterday.  Said that she had received a call from a process server trying to serve a summons on my wife and they wanted to know if she was there.  She told that she did not live there.  They gave her a toll-free number and a case number.

After she gave me the information, I called the company.  They answered the phone "Corporate Office" and put me through to Jeff McGee in the "Legal Department."  He claimed that we owed $ 1,800.00 on a Mastercard from several years ago.  He could not give me specifics on dates or anything.  I said that I had never received anything, and he could not explain that.  I told him that I wasn't doing anything until I got some paperwork to review.  He wanted me to settle over the phone.  He then took my e-mail and e-mailed me a letter.  The letter stated that they would settle for $ 1K, but it would have to be done today.

I work for a law office so I immediately called the County D.A. to find out if there was anything on my wife, which there wasn't.  We also checked our online access and could find nothing.  I also contacted a debt lawyer recommended by the County.

This lawyer checked the number and said that this company is not authorized to operate in the State of Texas.  He told me that we could actually get $ 1K from them.  This lawyer also told that in the event someone does show up at your door, make sure that you get their license number.  They have to be licensed to serve a summons.

I called the company and spoke with Jeff McGee again.  I quizzed him about their license to operate, which he could not answer.  I asked him how they are supposedly sending out a summons without a suit being filed.  Once again, he could not answer.  I told him to send me the paperwork for me to review.  His response was that he was having to request that from Mastercard.

Once I got home, my wife had heard a message left on our home phone and was extremely distressed.  I then called the company again and spoke with Jeff McGee again.  I asked him the same questions as before and he did not have any answers.  This time his response about the summons was that this was a "pre-emptive strike" before they filed a lawsuit.  I told him that "it doesn't sound like you know much   about this do you?"  His was response was that I was apparently "smarter than him."

I continued to quiz him.  The next thing I knew, the phone was disconnected.

Don't give into this company.  Idiots like this are depending on people to get scared and not check out their rights before giving up their money.
