This company offers prepaid cards for people on S.S. The call is to let a person know their check has been deposited.

I keep getting calls from this number. When I call them back they ask for my social security number. Who are they.
Donna 2014-02-07 16:20:42 Unknown
Direct Express that deposits your SS check to a debit card etc will NEVER ask you for your social security card number- If they do it is a scam - give them NO information - just hang up!

I received a call on my cell from this number. They left no message. I've read the previous posts, re SSI, but I do not recieve it. I am also not entitled to anyone elses. If the call was indeed re SSI, I have no idea why they called me.

Go down to the SS office and see them about it is your best bet. You might want to investigate a bit further into this as well, identity theft is something you want to consider as well.
Your entitled to a free report from each one, once a year...

I have been receiving calls from 8887411115 for over a year. When I return the call they ask for my 16 digit account number and social security number. I have taken the message to my bank but they know nothing about a deposit. Can anyone help?
PhillipG 2013-12-26 20:04:27 Unknown
Why would they call me I don't get SS and never have applied?
Not the same Lynn 2013-11-23 21:03:01 Non-profit Organization
I just got a call from them also. It's Direct Express. They usually call you approximately a week prior to loading your benefits. I'm looking at their advertisement that came with their notification. I didn't like the idea either, but if you actually go into your Social Security Dept. they will assure you it's alright. Banks weren't wanting to cash SSI checks unless you had a long time relationship with them. Being so many banks have changed their names, merged, hired new people it appears that the Social Security Commissioner and the U.S. Deputy Of Veterans Affairs got together to help curb identity theft complaints.
When I went into my social security department they told me what they were doing, and assured me this is alright.
If you've actually gone into your social security department the case worker will tell you, we'll call you just once to verify that it's you. Then monthly to let you know approximately a week before your deposit will be made. If you've worked most of your life these are your benefits they are giving you.
The Ad says Visit your bank go online or call us for more information: @1-800-333-1795

This is not a hoax....GOOD GREIF...This is a call telling people that a payment to their Social Security will be put on the credit card from Direct Express...
Lynn11 2013-10-29 19:00:40 Unknown
I just received a call from this number on my cell phone and it was not from social security. It was yet another scam trying to get you to give out your bank ID number so they could wipe out your checking account.
curious 2013-10-15 02:50:25 Unknown
why don't you go into your social security departments in your state and ask questions? They're legitimate. They call you once a month to let you know when your deposit will be made for disability.
Carl 2013-09-11 06:37:06 Unknown
I got to laugh a little about this post! It's the phone number from Social Security, Direct Express card. That's how I recieve Social Security.
Jaime 2013-09-09 21:10:55 Unknown
They call me multiple times a day. It needs to stop! If they can't leave a message about why they are calling, I don't need to talk to them! As a 3rd shifter, I find this very rude and disruptive! I am not on SS! I have a FT job and plan on working a long time! Ignorant people!
TruthTeller 2013-07-31 19:23:09 Unknown
There seem to be many know it alls on here that think they know everything. This company might be legit AT TIMES. But there are other times when they call people unwarranted. I know because I got a call from them. And then I promptly blocked their number.

You need to research before you open your mouth, expecially to others.
FYI Direct Express is for those poeple that do not have bank accounts to receive their Social Security, Disability, etc. It is a Master Card for this purpose that is re-filled monthly and the call is just a reminder that the individual requested to receive to know when their card will be debited.
Chris 2013-05-02 12:11:20 Unknown
This is a legitimate number. It is Direct Express...mainly used for direct deposit notifications for people who get social security direct deposited on the Direct Express card.
Francis 2013-02-26 21:08:31 Unknown
I just got a call from this number. I do not have an account or services with these people. This is a brand new number (less than a week)
barry 2013-02-21 01:08:08 Unknown
This is indeed the number to call DIRECT EXPRESS to get the balance on your Social Security credit card account (which replaces SS checks for recipients). When you call it, you will be asked for either your CARD NUMBER ir your SEC SEC number. Then tou will be asked for your PIN # to be allowed access to your balanace information.
If you get an unsolicited call FROM this ASKING FOR any of these numbers, DO NOT GIVE OUT such information. The caller could be spoofing the Caller ID you are sent. The real bank managing these Social Security accounts alreadt has all these numbers. Nobody should be calling you with a request like "We jusr want to VERIFY your information".

Have been called once a month for over a year, because the former owner of my phone number has an account with them. Just called back, insisted for 10 min, until they agreed to delete the number from the account. That rude operator has been repeatedly saying "we didn't call you, you called us"! what a company has such rude operator!

@ Bigtracks: I remember several years ago getting notification that Social Security would begin phasing all recipients to the Direct Express debit card over the next few years. Its most likely that the Social Security Administration DID tell your son in law this, and he simply didn't understand that his benefits would be going to the Direct Express card, and that it usually takes 45-60 days for a persons banking information to be verified, etc. I know this because that's exactly what SS did to me 3 years ago when they "phased" me into the card program, along with everyone else in my area who no longer chose to get a paper check.
The first ATM withdrawal is always free on this card, though most ATM's now also charge their OWN separate use fees. Using the card like a regular debit card is free. There are no fees to get your check faster, so I don't know what you mean there, unless you mean the normal ATM fees. Little trick I learned though: getting a cash withdrawal at a register at Walmart, or any other store that offers it, does NOT incur a "withdrawal fee"...because it's technically considered a "cash BACK" transaction, not a withdrawal.
Now, this card works perfectly for me, as I pay my bills either online or via money order (my landlord does not accept checks -he's been burned too many times before by previous tenants), so I've never had a reason to complain, but I suppose this system just won't work for everyone. I suggest your son in law simply wait the 45-60 days the Social Security Administration told him it would take for his own bank information to be processed into the system, and his money should begin being deposited to his bank in a month or maybe two. I can guarantee you the Social Security Administration did tell him this.

No, this company is NOT a hoax. It is Comerica Bank, and Direct Express is the card the US Government (specifically the US Treasury and the Social Security Administration) has chosen to contract with to provide certain benefits recipients their monthly benefits. I know this for a fact, because I am on SSI, and I've gotten my monthly SSI benefits Direct Deposited to this card for several years now. Government Benefits is ALL this card deals with, so if you got a call from them, chances are, it was in regards to your benefits being dispersed.
