Same message. Family memeber involved in an accident in Miami and would be killed if we didn't provide money. Once you tell them you know it's a scam they threaten to kill you and and your family member. Puerto Rico area code

I got a scam call yesterday that my son was in a car accident and they were holding him from going to the hospital until I came up with the money, $2,400, to repay them for damages to a motorcycle. That kept me going for about three hours until they couldn't come up with the answer to a question to my son which would confirm that they actually were holding him, before I authorized money to be sent. There is not much you can do once you receive a call like this because they threaten you the whole time and keep you on the phone so you can't alert anyone. Just knowing that it's likely a scam should allow you to gain the upper hand quickly.
Later, my son googled the phone number and I saw that that phone number was located in Puerto Rico and had been used for multiple similar cowardly attacks on the general public.

I received a call from someone stating that they will kill my brother if they didn't receive $2,500. They ask me not to hang up the phone and not to inform the police. I was scammed for $300 before I realized what was going on. BE AWARE and search any number online that you don't know asking for money. Lesson learned
