I get a call about every hour and I hear a tone like some one is pushing the buttons and then sounds like a fax tone then hangs up. They are calling on our 800 so we pay for the call.

I got charged to my 800# nine times this past month for similar calls. All of them originate in DENTON TX. I suspect this is not a fax call but a call made by a device called a robocaller. It dials the numbers automatically and when a human voice answers it plays a recording but when a machine answers it disconnects so that it won't be documented on Caller ID. I guess the FCC is doing as good a job protecting the telecommunications consumer as the SEC did protecting investors. It was bad enough when these pests paid their own way--now they expect us to pay them to pest us!

A Fax is calling our home line

Myself is deaf and I have special kind of phone called VideoPhone and that number 940 898 0738 did call to my phone but never leave any message or whatever and I try call back at that number and ringing twice then become beep beep beep beep beep and just do nothing and I try again call then it said busy busy busy dail and I was like how do they got my videophone number? No one know my number and I think it some kind of stranger cuz it never happen to me so

This number, and a string of other 940 and 817 numbers, has called us multiple times.  No fax (though, sounds like a fax tone), no one on the phone, no way to look them up or ask them to stop calling.  Filing a Junk Fax 1088 Form with the FCC, recommend you do so as well.

I have the same problem as Anonymous posted on 10/22/08.  Many unidentified calls including this one coming from Texas (Harlingen TX and Denton TX) to all of our 800 numbers.  It is annoying, interruptive, and of course since they are calling our 800 numbers, we are paying for the calls!

I received a call on my business 800 phone# and this number left no message except the sound of one key being pressed. And marked the voice mail message "URGENT." (But they left no voice message.)

I get a notice via text message to my cell phone, and this same number appeared: 940-898-0738

When I called the number, it picked up but immediately started to auto-dial and then silence. (Like an auto-dialed call forwarding, but goes no where, at least I don't stay on long enough to find out.

I have had numerous calls like this on my same business 800# - exactly the same proceedure, except they don't usually leave a message of any kind.

ONE THING I HAVE NOTICED: THEY ALL COME OUT OF TEXAS
(All different areas of Texas.)
