Like I'd answer this kind of call, shows up as "out of the area". I have no idea what they may have had to say, nor do I care.

That's an easy question to answer! This obviously spoofed (falsified), number is being used by the "free cruise" scammers. Those that are fooled by these lowlifes, will be left waiting at the dock for a ship that never comes, while the scammers sail away with their credit card information!

They left a message offering a "free" two day Bahama cruise for answering a short survey. Unlike past calls like this, they did not state that they expect payment of "taxes and a small port fee". Maybe they think that will help them skirt the law, but it was still a robocall to a number on the DNC list. Reported to FTC.

This is obviously a spoofed number. According to the North American Numbering Plan, which defines phone numbers for Canada, the US, Mexico and most countries in the Caribbean, a valid Area Code cannot start with a 0 or a 1. So it cannot be a Los Angeles number (that was also spoofed), and it is doubtful that this number would be connected to a woman in Canada as Rhys reports, unless the Google entry he cites points to a site like 800notes which is reporting it being used for some scam purpose. It might be a valid number in England, but you would have to dial the Country Code for England (44) first, to get an international line, before you could reach a number in England.
It is all too easy for scammers to set the Caller ID to any name and/or number they want to display on your phone. This is why you see numbers like this, numbers that are all zeros, numbers starting with a ?V?, etc. There are regulations that require telemarketers to put valid info in the Caller ID fields before they call, and legitimate companies do so, but if someone is making the call intending to try to scam the party on the other end, what does breaking one more law matter to them? Especially when it makes it harder to track them down for prosecution. There are probably ways to adjust the Caller ID standards that would allow the information in Caller ID to be verified against the true calling number and either block calls that have wrong information or correct it for the receiving end (thus ending spoofed numbers), but unless the Telcos are forced to do it by the Government, they are not going to spend the money to do so. Like most businesses, they will only spend money if it will make them even more money, and fixing Caller ID will not make them any money.

Posts from Gerald and Rhys are interesting, since my caller ID said Los Angeles. Didn't answer the call.

I got a call from it about 10 minutes ago. I Googled it and it pointed to some woman in Canada.

Just got a call from this number. Did not answer and they did not leave a message. Supposedly, the 121 area code is from somewhere in England.
