CBA told me today that this phone number is legit. In my case the transaction was fraudulent so definitely call CBA back.

I received this automated phone call this morning asking me to call the 1300 number. I was dubious, so I googled (and found this page) and then rang CBA on the main never I always call them on and asked them to transfer me to card fraud.
I live in Sydney and over 15 translations were attempted on my card in the US overnight. Thankfully only one of the transactions were successful and the bank is refunding that.
Anyone posting on here saying that the number is a scam do not believe them! This number IS legitimate and is in place to prevent fraud occurring on your card. If in doubt do as I did and call Commonwealth on their main 132221 number and get them to transfer you.
Do not delay as the longer you leave it, the more fraudulent transactions are taking place.
I have to wonder why people are posting that the number is a scam.. Possibly the scammers themselves trying to get as much use out of your card before you cotton on.
Protect yourself. Call the bank. Cancel your card immediately and get them to issue a new one. Always collect your card from the bank too and don't get it posted to your home address.

Debt Collector
CBA does use automated messages, confirmed today 28 Feb 2014.
However they recommend calling a 1300 378 386 number, who know's where that goes? instead call the Commonwealth bank on their own line: 13 2221
It is pretty poor security for CBA to recommend anything other than contacting them directly, as you could be giving over security details on a range of accounts to scammers.
They were chasing me for $30 credit overdue, and I have $60,000 in connected account and $400,000 loan.
Crazy approach for customer service!

if scammers post fake  e mails here trying to confirm numbers, there must be a large number of people who take these chat rooms seriously. Ring the bank, only the gullible and the stupid believe anything that people say on sites like this. they surely took the warning about only posting truthful information here seriously.

Commonwealth bank rang me and left this phone in order to verify one my recent transaction. It is fully automated and do not ask "special" questions. Just ask to enter phone number you got the original message to and thel you about transaction you had and confirm with you it was legit or not.

I received a missed call from this number about 4 times today. I finally answered on the fifth call and decided to take a listen as I thought it all seemed a little dodgy - it was an automated response asking me to call back a 1300 number. Decided to give CBA a call directly and they were able to confirm that the number is legitimate. I had made an international transaction yesterday and they just wanted to confirm that I had indeed made this transaction. They don't ask for any card details, they only ask for you to verify your DOB and address. They explained to me that they have these systems in place for added measures of security should there be suspicious activity going in with your account.

My advice would be to call CBA directly, and get them to transfer you over to that number which is what I did.

I received a call on my cell phone from 315-529-5710 at 7:20 pm on April 18th. The recorded female voice said that my debit card from Commonwealth Bank had been temporarily stopped. I was to press 1 to reactivate. I don't have such a debit card; out of curiosity, I pressed 1 and was told to enter my "16-digit account number." Of course, at that point, I ended the call. So this is a different number from the one you have been following. What gives??

I was highly suspicious of this number and so I followed the advice of others and phoned the main bank number 13 22 21.  After going through various menu options (!) I finally got through to a real person and, after identifying myself, they transferred me to the VISA Fraud department.  They confirmed to me that they were checking on a suspicious transaction on my account (made just 5 minutes before) and gave me details of the transaction.  In fact the transaction was OK in my case, I had just bought something online.

I believe this number is genuine BUT I have to agree with others that this might not be the best way for CBA to go about things.

I advise anyone to do what I did and go through the main CBA phone number.

Received a call on my mobile from a blocked number.  Automated system identified itself as the Commonwealth Bank fraud department left a message requesting I call 1300 754 566.

Called the number from my fixed phone, but it said it could not identify me.  Called the number again from my mobile, and the system eventually read out recent transactions from my credit card history, asking me to confirm each one.  The first one was a charge I did not make (over $1,000), so I ended up speaking with a rep who cancelled the card and is sending out another one.  Thankfully, she reassured me that I would not be liable for the fraudulent charges.

After I hung up, I got paranoid and wondered if the call might have been designed to cover up a scam so that I would not call the actual bank, which would allow them to continue using the card for a few more purchases.  So, I called CBA at their main number.  Rep confirmed that the cards were indeed cancelled, and new cards are on the way.

BOTTOM LINE: The number is indeed the CBA fraud department.  However, it might be possible for a scammer to spoof the number on caller ID, so you should always call the bank back directly if you are in any doubt.

GENUINE automated commbank fraud dept call 12/10/12.
I followed the instructions, got thru to an operator, my card was cancelled straight away and I was able to confirm this myself moments later from my netbank. 5 transactions from UK in quick succession alerted them.
I was not asked for any other info during the call, just select DOB and last 4 digits.

Number is a scam. Ignore all replies saying its valid they are part of the scammers themselves.

Commsec have my direct mobile details and would not need to use my landline if they thought it was something as urgent as Fraud.

I've had a couple of calls from this number today - the first one came through as a voicemail and cut off the return contact number. I called Commbank and was told that there was no note from the fraud team that they had called, so I ignored it.

Got a second call, managed to listen to it the whole way through, and got this number at the end. Called it, didn't like the sound of the automated system that answered and hung up. I called the Commbank main line again, who confirmed that there was again no note on the account, but they would check the number for me. They confirmed it was really them, and asked if I would like to be transferred to it. I was cool with that, they checked a transaction from this morning and all was sorted.

Even though the number turned out to be legit, I think I'll still be calling Commbank on 13 2221 and ask to be transferred - there's no point risking it with a potentially fake number. Both calls came through on a private number, with the 1300 number only given at the end of the call.

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!. All messages suggesting that it isn't a scam are fraudulent and posted by scammers (especially the one about calling the CBA Bank Manager - if anyone knows anything about the CBA you would know that this wouldn't happen!). I called CBA on main line and everything is fine.

Most likely they would already have all your details so the process would sound legitimate, and you would just have to read out the numbers on the back of your card "to verify you are still in possession of the card".

This is a sophisticated fraud and by now they are doing everything via computer generated voices.
You get a call purporting to be from the Commonwealth Bank Fraud Department and they know a bunch of details about you.
We then phoned the Commonwealth Bank who told us conclusively that there was no fraudulent activity on our account and the Fraud Department had no outstanding query. CBA staff suggested we call the police.

I received BLOCKED calls on both my mobile and home phone number. I immediately rang my CBA bank manager who confirmed it was a legitimate automated service from the CBA. The fraud system looks for questionable forex/visa transactions and asks you to identify yourself by selecting your birth month from a series of options. It will then give you the last 4 digits on your VISA card and identify the transactions that it has queried. Your acceptance of the transaction will allow the CBA to continue processing. There are no other identity questions.

If there are thousands of people affected everyday, how do you suppose they will be able to call those thousands of people everyday..? Think of the volumes, easy for you to wave it off as lazy. Fraud prevention and detection costs time and money - I think this new service is excellent and saves a lot of time and frustration - you should be more concerned about finding fraud transactions for yourself without your bank even noticing!

I had a call from this service this morning. I came here first to check it out.
I called through the main service line and checked my Ebanking. Turns out someone had hacked my banking and the bank had noticed weird withdrawls.

This number's legit but I reckon calling via the main service number is the way to go.

it was a valid call from the commonwealth bank credit card security system.

It looks legitimate. I've also received a call from it. I think it's a good system of minimising fraud (as well as future transaction disputes with VISA).
