I just got a  new iPhone from Verizon 2 days ago.  I never received these with my previous phones, but hours after upgrading to an iPhone I started receiving these texts.  I called my Verizon salesperson and he said he'll block them asap...  Good Luck!

Just want to underscore what Brandise and Erin H say above.  Seems that Verizon still hasn't figured out how to keep this problem from happening in the first place, however, their tech support now understands what it is and how to take care of it.  But you need to call them.

This happens to some (but not all) customers who had a mobile e-mail app subscription on a feature phone (an Env2 in our case), then switched to a smartphone (a Droid 2, in our case).  It might happen in other situations as well.  But the culprit seems to be the old mobile e-mail app from the old phone not being de-activated properly.  Tell tech support the problem, make sure you mention the number (118012222269) and that it says Oz Mail in the message, say that you need them to totally de-activate your old mobile e-mail app account.  The guy I talked to knew exactly what I was talking about, did what he needed to do, and the messages stopped!

Also, I totally agree with being hyper-skeptical of messages like this, but in this case it is actually not a spammer or scammer.  It's a bug/glitch.

I continue to receive many texts from this number. They contain no information other than a sketchy way to stop receiving the messages.

receiving the same messages on my phone and my husband's phone for few weeks now.  When I select message info there's no call back # for the text.  It says it's a high priority text too.  When I select to extract addresses it gives a list of numbers 118012222269, 0104, 6516 and 2004.  Have no idea what these mean.  Will attempt to call Verizon again.

I believe it is messages from a mobile email application you may have had with your old phone. If you call tech support they can remove the application and the messages should stop. If you notice, they always come about the same time as an email from whatever email was set up through the mobile email app.

I really think that backup assistant is the problem. When we have Backup Assistant on our phone and we switch to phones that don't have Backup Assistant, like a blackberry, Verizon glitches.  It continually tries to check for updates, realizes that it can't and sends the text message from 118012222269.  (Some programmers cute joke) So on my ENV2, once it was reactivated, this is the directions to cancel Backup Assistant:
click "center key"
click "Media Center"
click "Browse & Download"
click "Backup Assistant"
click "Options" (right soft key?)
click "Cancel Subscription" (center key)
click "yes"
So in a nut shell:
reactivate old phone, cancel Backup assistant, cancel old phone, reactivate Blackberry. Enjoy

After about a month of dealing with this it's finally over. I had an ENV2 and switched to a Blackberry and that's when the "spam" text messages started. Every time I got an email on my Blackberry it was followed by a message from 118012222269. I would also get them at random time throughout the day. They totaled up to 30 a day. Here's how I got it to stop. I reactivated my ENV2, signed on to my Verizon Wireless.com account and removed subscription to moble email, on my phone I canceled my 2 email accounts, and most importantly CANCELED BACKUP ASSISTANT, reactivated my Blackberry and the "spam" stopped.  I am soooooo happy!!!

I started receiving these almost encrypted messages from 1180222269, after I got my new phone from Verizon. I have been a customer for years and never had this problem until now. I called Verizon for suggestions. I have not been billed for these strange messages & was advised to reply STOP. I suggest calling Verizon before doing that just in case you're billed. They can note you account and you won't be charged. They were very helpful, but just as confused as I am about these messages. This definitely is a scam of some sort!!!! We also went into my verizon account through vzw.com and enabled the spam controls to block further  texts from coming through. There are two different ways to do this. One is to diasble "email" texts & you can also disable "web" texts. You cannot block the phone number since its not a real number. Hope this has been of some help!

That is completely unacceptable.  I don't pay for my texts each month to get these random texts.  There has got to be a way to fix this.  Or a solution to how I got it on my phone.  Anyone done anything lately that would cause these texts to take over your phone?

I've gotten over 40 so far today.  First time ever, and I've been with Verizon since 1995.  recently got a Palm Centro Smartphone though.  Verizon customer service said it can't be blocked other than turning off text messaging (not an option).

Stay tuned I guess and turn off your audio notification so it doesn't drive you crazy.

Good Luck everyone!

I went to the Verizon site and set up a spam blocker for this number (thanks for the tip!), but the problem is that this isn't a regular ten-digit phone number. It's a twelve-digit number with two ones preceding an 801 area code. I wonder if this number only contacts customers with PDAs because I've been a Verizon customer since 1995 and I never had this problem until I upgraded to the Samsung Saga three days ago. My inbox has been flooded with these messages and I agree that it's extremely irritating.

For all the Verizon users, goto your account management page on the verizon website ( create an account if you have not already ) and under the user/spam controls you can block number from calling and texting you. Free for limited blocking ( expires after 3 or so months, up to 5 or 10 numbers ) or premium for unlimited.
You can also block web based texts, so only phone sent texts will work.
