hey, I had a message on my cell phone that I had a warrant out for my arrest. It was the DEA calling and the agent said his name was James Castello. The number given was 949-274-1716.  There is no basis in fact as to why I would be called by the DEA for any kind of "drug" warrant. I don't know how he got my cell number, but I am glad I looked online and found out about the scam. I am angry!

Prank Call
I just rec'd a call from 301-825-5059 right after a call from an "UNKOWN" caller. A man with a heavy accent (hard to understand) left a message that he was from the DEA & there was a warrant out for my arrest & a search warrant for my home & property. I freaked out for a moment because I just travelled out of the country a week ago for a marathon & I thought maybe someone had tampered with my luggage or something. (I've seen too many movies). I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who has experienced this! Should I report the phone number to my local DEA?

I received a call from number 12025068912 i missed it so they left a message. First and foremost i thought it to be strange as the fda would be calling me for anything, second the message seemed really unprofessional and when i calle it back the same voice that left the message was the voice on the recording im sure the fda has a automated recording when you call them i figured it was something fishy and i simple google search confirmed that.

Wife and I just got this phone call today. Then I got paranoid about why would the DEA call us up and tell us they had a search warrant for the house and an arrest warrant for my wife before they served it. SO, paranoid, I google'd the DEA and called their local office, they said they already had a case open and are actively investigating this. They gave me the number for the DEA extortion office. I just called it, and now I'm waiting for them to call meback tomorrow when they open up. Just remember - law enforcement doesn't ask for money - that's the court system's job.

I just googled the telephone number to find this website claiming other scams. I am not sure how to proceed but I plan on giving them a rough time. Those little MFs are pay for messing with me.

This is a SCAM!!!! They claim to be DEA agents demanding $$$ under threat of arrest...which for we law-abiding citizens it a joke!  Report this #. They are committing a crime not only by attempting unlawfully to coerce/extort $$$ from innocent people, but also for impersonating an officer ofthe law/government. These people belong in jail!!!

I was just called today with that same number and a man calling himself Manuel Costello from the DEA said that there is a bench warrant out for my arrest and that I was facing 3-5 years in jail. He was verbally abusive, yelled when I questioned him, threatened to send the police out immediately because I was being difficult (asking questions)...
I called my husband who then called the DEA in our local town and let us know that it all was a debt collector scam.
I just now called him "Manuel Costello" back and left him a message that his scam is well known and he should be ashamed of himself.... just as I was writing this he called me back (with his phone number blocked) I simply told him to never call me again and hung up...
I am in shock.... I wish there was a way to let everyone know about this before they get scared to death!!

HERE IS THE SCAM - REPORTED RIGHT HERE ON 800NOTES UNDER NEWS

FDA Warn Consumers About Phone Scam to Collect Fake Fines
7 Jan 2010
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as FDA special agents and other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scam.

The criminals call the victims -- who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the Internet or via "telepharmacies" -- and identify themselves as FDA special agents or other law enforcement officials.

The criminals inform the victims that purchasing drugs over the Internet or the telephone is illegal, and that law enforcement action will be pursued unless a fine or fee ranging from $100 to $250,000 is paid. Victims often also have fraudulent transactions placed against their credit cards.

The criminals always request the money be sent by wire transfer to a designated location, usually in the Dominican Republic. If victims refuse to send money, they are often threatened with a search of their property, arrest, deportation, physical harm, and or incarceration.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be an FDA or other law enforcement official who is seeking money to settle a law enforcement action for the illegal purchase of drugs over the Internet should refuse the demand and call the FDA?s Office of Criminal Investigations Metro Washington Field Office at (800) 521-5783 to report the crime.

FDA special agents and other law enforcement officials are not authorized to impose or collect criminal fines. Only a court can take such action, with fines payable to the U.S. Treasury.

I got the exact same ph. call today (7/19/2010). They left a message stating that they were DEA... and something about an impending search warrant (the individual leaving the message had a thick accent so not all that was said was understood on my behalf). They left 202-241-0211 as a call-back number. On my own I found the "real" DEA's phone number, called and received the same response as the 1st poster. I knew it had to be a scam, being a law abiding citizen that hasn't even had a traffic ticket in 20 years. What scum bags!

This number is a scam!
They called my mom saying that she was going to be arrested and that she owned them $800. They claim to be DEA agents, but when I called the actual DEA they said that they have received many calls about these posers and that it is a complete scam. I didn't even complete my question to the real DEA and they knew what I was talking about. Do not pay them!
