Someone claiming to be from the "IRS department of Internal Revenue Service" gave incorrect name claiming there is a complaint against my identity and before they take legal action against me I must call.  Then a few hours later there was a follow call from them (Caller ID both claim "District of Columbia"), same person but different number (202-241-9802).  2nd call was a 'reminder' of the urgency of me calling them back.

I told them the same thing and they hang up on me as well. I was by no means provide any personal info or "settle" the issue over the phone.

after a got the phone call from this phone number  i called IRS and they told me they are aware about the scam.and they advise me to call the TRESARY DEPARTMENT AT 800-366-4484

i got call today from this phone number. they told me there is a lien from RIRS against me and my husband for year 2012. i own them 1100. they told me if i'm willing to pay today they are not going to press charges. the people i spoke to the sound like eastern people with accent. I did freaked out at first, but my son told me ; mom hang up. is a scam.

I too just got a call from # 202-241-9142 and a female with a funny accent left a message "...from IRS and would take legal action ... blah, blah, blah, ...you alone are responsible ...blah, blah, blah" The female has been presistent, calling me twice a day for the past several days in the late afternoons and finally left the message. Sounds like total fraud. Is anyone in law enforcement doing anything about this fraud and nusance? The number is registered to "Kelly Rogers" whoever the hell this person is!

I got call too... when I return the call and asked their name and where they are calling..
Call got disconnected and when I call again I am getting voice message.

It is a fraud call do not reply, just ignore !!!

I received a phone call from 202-241-9142 stating that I was the object of a federal investigation, and that I should call the number immediately.
I have my taxes done by a CPA, and have had dealings with the IRS due to my ex-husband's tax evasion.
Do not call them back and do not give them any info, including your social security number.
The Attorney General's number in Pa is 717-787-3391

Actually they are working out of India.    They ignore US laws and don't care whether it is a federal crime or not.

While on a business call, I got a call from these "Officer Paul Brown of the Special Crime Investigation Dept.", which went into my voicemail.  I'd place the accent in the Caribbean, West Indian.  How I differ from my identity, I'm still trying to figure out.  And if I committed a crime, at least it was a "Special Crime."  LOL.  Guy couldn't even pronounce my first name correctly.  Also, I'm a FRIGGIN LAWYER!!!!  I know how this stuff happens, and it doesn't happen like this.  Moreover, my entire practice is in California and I'm thinking, "who the hell in Washington DC is going to bring a lawsuit against me and my identity?!!"  In any event, these @$$holes are committing a federal crime, so tomorrow I call the FBI.

same here, said they were from irs and we were in trouble...all with a indian, Nigerian accent...I could smell a fish...they didn't use our names, didn't give theirs, no case number or anything, when I called back it was a magic jack phone and of course the mailbox was full LOLOL

I received a call from 202-241-9142 today here at work asking for me by name. The man said his name is officer Paul Brown with the IRS legal department and that there is a legal case against my name and identity. I asked what this was about and then I was transferred to his manager - officer Allen Walton. He repeated that there is a legal case against my name and identity, that the call was being recorded and that I had to answer every question honestly and truthfully. I then asked how do I know you are who you say you are. He then said that when the U.S. Marshalls come to pick me up that I would find everything out about the case at that time - then he hung up. I have reported this call to my local police department. Ugh.

Got a call today from the same number from a lady with a foreign sounding accent.  Claimed to be FBI.  If we did not call back, threatened legal action.  Very novice!!  Do not respond if you get a call from this number.

I vot call this morning dt. May 6th.  Said he is from IRS. And demanded back charges as tax money. I immediately to realised that ascam..l hanged up. He called second time after ten minutes. Again I cut off the phone.

I too just got a call from this same number -- 202-241-9142 -- to say that I owe taxes and will be arrested unless I pay the taxes immediately. I told the person that I have already paid my taxes in full, and that I am going to call IRS right away to find out as this call seems highly suspicious. The person said he is from IRS, so it is pointless to call IRS. I said that I am still going to call IRS and find out about it, and the person got really upset and hung up after repeating his threat to send a police officer to arrest me.

Don't panic...I had a similar message last night on my home phone...so, I called them this morning.  I was told that I owed taxes from 2011 and 2012 and I should immediately pay up $1998 by going to the nearest Rite-Aid and buying a Green dot card. I insisted that I can get to an IRS office but, was told that the nearest office based on my home zip code is about 10 miles and that there is no time to get there. He kept pushing me to go to the nearest Rite Aid and buy the card...upon insisting that I will go the nearest IRS office, he said well then an officer will be at our door in about 20 minutes to arrest us and hung up.  You know based on this that it is a scam.  He definitely had a hispanic accent. So, don't get fooled.

          I was out of country that  some body from this number with IRS caller ID called my home in USA talked to my wife telling her that we owe money to IRS&you need to take care of it or when your husband comes back they will pick him up from airport&take his passport away, we had some stressful time until we search the number on computer. I think our government should do something about these people, after all they using IRS title on their caller ID number.

got a call last night on my voice mail indicating this is officer scott anderson and that there are charges being levied against me number 202-241-9142.   I called back a couple of times and eventually talked with someone with a heavy accent or speech disorder.  They said they are charges so I pressed him on details and he became vague, eventually he accused me of not being who I am and that there was no match from their "speed recognition" software.  I figured this was a scam but I also wanted to make sure I wasn't a victim of mistaken identity and called the local FBI office who then eventually referred me to the Federal Trade Commission (1-877-382-4357).  I talked with a representative about the issue, they were pretty short during the conversation and weren't thrilled about the issue.  I made a report regarding the incident.  I did a search on the suspect number and came accross this site.

Yesterday around 11:45AM , somebody called my wife to my home number &left a voicemail ,telling that his name is Matthew &  He is an IRS officer calling regarding  to provide legal help for name &identity. IF you don't call you feel consequences. My wife tried to call in the evening&she was so nervous. She did not understand what he says. Then i tried to call around 7:30PM. No answer. His voice came &we so scared ,no sleep Last nigt. What should i do? Please Advise.

It is a scam. IRS will never call, they will send you Certified mail. Please inform to all the people you know about this scam.
