Called, but left no message.  Telemarketer or political fund raiser most likely.

I got a very strange voice message from this number -- a click, then it sounded like it was dialing a number, and then upon being answered, a Bible study sermon.  Nothing threatening, but very very weird.

CID said it was from Checkbook Mag, which I actually subscribe to -- it's a terrific DC resource for say finding a plumber.  

But this Bible study thing was just whacko.  I wonder if Checkbook got hacked.

I keep getting calls from this number, I do not answer and they do not leave a message.

Got a call from this number today from a women pretending to need a part for her furnace.

It's Consumers' Checkbook Magagine calling for donations under the pretext of annual courtesy calls. They will ask you if you are finding value in the magazine, ask you if you have suggestions for studies, and then ask you for $100 dollars as a tax-deductable gift. If you refuse, they ask for 25 and then 10, and then will ask if you want to make a pledge for later in the year. If you agree to donate, they send you a letter in the mail, and if you DON'T send the money they will send you another letter. They say they call until they make contact with the subscriber, which was quite often.

A man called from this number and said "May I speak to Ms. (my last name)" and I said "May I tell her who is calling?"  and he said "Thank You" and HUNG UP IMMEDIATELY!  It was VERY creepy.

The "Do Not Call" legislation exempted non-profit organizations and government agencies.  So signing up for the registry will not stop calls from charities or the endless solicitations from political groups.

I looked it up: Consumers' Checkbook Magazine, Center for the Study of Services is an independent, nonprofit consumer organization with help from the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs.  
They publish magazines and newsletters like CarBargains,LeaseWise, Cardeals, Guide to Health Plans for Federal Employees, Guide to Top Doctors and Consumers? Guide to Hospitals.

This call comes in as Checkbook Mag on my caller ID.  I am on the do not call list and never answer any call other than from friends.  Most unwanted calls come in as Toll Free Call.  Have had over 500 calls since listing on government do not call directory - its totally worthless.  Reporting them does nothing - 44 calls from one number alone.  Next step is cancelling phone service if local company won't do something.  I don't need this hassle!

I searched the number on google and found out that it was the Consumer Checkbook people.  I think they enjoy doing satisfaction surveys on Sunday afternoons.  I can't stand them.  They totally ripped me off.  I subscribed to their site and found out I had very limited access to articles I thought I'd get access to after paying $$.  That was not the case.
