This number has been calling my house over and over for way too long, so it's not just cell phone numbers that they're calling.  Why they would want to call me I have no idea as I'm in the suburbs and could give a s*** where a Walmart will be in the city.  This s*** needs to stop.

Call at 7:19pm to a 312 area code.  Went to voice mail.  No message left.

Got this number on caller ID showing it is a Washington DC number but no message left.  From what I have read its a survey for a new Walmart...give me a break.  During these times the last thing anyone needs to see is a DC number showing up when you have a son serving his country.  And I thought I was on a "do not call list".

So, Wal-mart commissions a push-poll call (from a DC location) to Chicago cell phones that states that Mayor Daley supports a Wal-mart store and you don't think it has anything to do with Daley and politics??  Um, okay.

Wal-Mart steps up pressure on City Council

Wal-Mart representatives tonight tried to increase the pressure on Chicago's City Council ahead of a committee hearing Wednesday where the prospect of a new South Side store could come up for debate.

A spokesman for the company announced a polling firm made automated calls today to more than 75,000 Chicagoans with a one-question recording that touted the benefits of a new Wal-Mart, including more than 400 jobs and "a wider availability of fresh groceries and other goods."


The company said the recording also said opponents "say the jobs are not good enough."
Wal-Mart officials said the results show Chicagoans overwhelmingly favor a second store for Chicago, but it's unclear whether their latest public relations push will win them converts among aldermen who have so far sided with organized labor groups that oppose the store.

Union leaders have fought hard to keep Wal-Mart out of Chicago, saying the company's wages and benefits are too low.

The company also sponsored a farmer's market last weekend at the South Side location of its proposed store. But while local Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) supports the effort, his proposal has been stuck in a council committee.

Before Wednesday's full council meeting, proponents will try to free up the plan for a future public hearing and vote. But it's unclear if that will work.

Received a call from this number on home phone (773 AC) this afternoon, it went to VMX with no message left. This is likely the current Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce phone survey on the Wal-Mart issue, which was recently mentioned in local media. The Chamber is *pro* an added Wal-Mart location, hence the wording of the question.
