Thank goodness for Google Search which brought me here! :-)

I was in the middle of helping my dad with the kindergarten class...I didn't take it, and after reading this site, I don't plan on calling them back either!

Just received a call from employment select for a position I applied for on line.  She could not tell me the name of the company and said that the interview process could take up to 45 minutes.  I told her to call my home phone number in stead of my cell ..and am still waiting for her to call me back.

((SCAM)) ((SCAM)) ((SCAM)) BEWARE of "EMPLOYMENT SELECT .COM" "Verification Specialist" I spoke with a gentleman named Austin today at 12:30pm from 202-403-0828. This is a LEAD GENERATION MILL FOR PRIVATE-FOR-PROFIT COLLEGE INSTITUTIONS. Employment Select.com sells your information to "Private-For-Profit" College Institutions. Here's how it works.. They extract your information from the "bait-n-switch" job applications they post, then call you to ask questions about an interest in furthering your education and your interest in other career fields. Then inform you that you are completed with your first interview and someone will contact for your second. Only to have the college whom they sold your information too, call and attempt to enroll you into their college. Translation: A Private-For-Profit College(s) contacts you (because you informed "Employment Select.com" and/or their "Verification Specialist" that you're interested with furthering your education, therefore a lead.) Employment Select HAS NO INTENTION of placing individuals with direct or indirect employment/employers. There MAIN and ONLY PURPOSE is to verify and confirm your data, ask you if you're interested in education, then sell it to private for profit colleges. Their "Verification Specialist" AND website hides behind the mask of employment screenings, only to screen you for college lead generation.

Thanks from all of you for the heads up.  I don't usually answer the phone unless I see who it is first. And I never call that number back unless I was left a message.  So far I am lucky no one ever leaves a message anyway. Headsup to you guys, check the (908) area code calls also.  Some ohter kind of scam with that too.  Luckily the same thing, they don't leave a message.  What a terrrible time to be looking for employment, with all this going on.  I really sreen my calls now and look them up on Google first to see where the call is coming from.  That's how I get all this info. Like I said don't just answer your phone right away, screen it first.  Thanks

I applied for quite a few jobs through Monster.com, Craigslist.com etc, and these people called me, wanting to me to "verify" my information. Based on the first comment here, I went along with it, however after further research on "Career Network", I regret doing so. It isn't exactly a scam, but they do sell your information to telemarketers. So, you're not getting a job, they just take your phone number and address and sell it off.

Do NOT verify for them your cell phone number, otherwise I think it nullifies your status of the DO NOT CALL list.

All most the same experience as the previous entry from "Mark", but the woman did get the job I applied for correct and ask me general questions, name, address and phone numbers,  then after about 5 min into the call ended the conversation pretty abruptly when I told her I was not interested in getting a masters degree right now, but maybe after I get a job. She told me the hiring manager would contact me to continue the next phase in the interview process once they reviewed my qualifications.  Sounded like continuing education telemarketing stuff to me, but I'll have to wait and see.

I got this call early this morning too.  I held and waited through the recordings about 3-4 times and gave up.  This was the second time they called, they tried last week too and I never got to speak to a person then either.
It's funny I never even applied for a job through careerbuilder, but that's where they said they got my information.

got a call from this number and googled it before calling it back- thanks for the info on here!!  I have had one of those for-profit colleges call me before off one of those bait and switch job applications and decided it was a scam shortly into the call!  Now that I know what this number is, I can screen them out!

Got a call this morning. Thanks for the tips on this scam as their call came at a time that I was expecting another call back on an actual job. What a low-life way to make a living.

Michelle on May 16, you said this company is not a scam.   However, a scam is anything where the object and motives of a company are misrepresented.  For Debbie on May 20, did you actually get a job?  I doubt it!

I got the same call and called back.  Was told it would take about 45 minutes.  However when I told them I was working on a PH.D.  they suddenly ended the call & told me they would contact me for the next phase.  I'm assuming it was the colleges as many stated.

I think it's sad that these people have infiltrated all the job sites and are soliciting those who desparately need work!  This should be illegal.

I wrote about this in my blog, http://pogirlneedsjob.blogspot.com/ on May 2, called "Applying On Line And Other Scams."

This never ceases to amaze me.

They called me repeatedly and I googled the number and found this (thankfully!) I called them back to be removed from their list. After the cycling messages that explained about their 45-minute "job verifcation", an actual person answered and asked for my phone number to 'open my file'. I gave him my number and asked that I be removed immediately as I was aware that this was a Lead Generation company. He retorted "Sure thing" and hung up on me.

This is HORRIBLE! In an economic climate where so many people are looking for jobs, its a shame that such an unscrupulous company is taking advantage of vulnerable job seekers!

STEER CLEAR!

They just called me a bit ago, left no message.  When I called back, same thing, I was put on hold etc....I asked where the job was located, as well as the Company in which they were representing.  The girl did not have any info.  It just didn't feel right so I told her on second hand I don't have 45 minutes.  I agree.  In these hard economic times it is sad this is going on.  People seeking employment could be spending that time on a real career.

This is such bu***hit. I don't give a s**t if they are verifying to get more info. so maybe they might have a job available. If you have a job for me, friggin' call me the f&&% directly or send an email that verifies I am a real person and get your verification that way. You call me don't leave a message and what? I'm suppose to be hard up I call back and there may not even be anything available. It's a game people and I'm not playing.

I got the same call. It is total BS..I guess they use our resumes for leads. If I can do anything about it, they wont be using the resumes much longer.
They are thinking,Hey, what a more vulnerable group to screw over. Their has to be some kind of protection from these thieves.

Well, I guess I've just been had.  Gave "James" all of my contact information minus my SS#. Being suspicious but desperate to find work I answered his questions but also asked some of my own: What is your last name? (he said they didn't give that info. out) What is the name of your company? (We are a third party to Career Network used for the verification process of your applicaiton).  He continued to ask about me furthering my edu. and I just told him to excuse me but after what I've been through I was a bit weiry and he told Me that was ok, he's forwarded my info. to the company and "good luck" to me. I'm starting to wonder if any of those job postings on Craigslist etc. are ligitamite. I've dealt with Sister Mary Joseph (I'm sure this sounds familiar to you job seekers)I've received emails with link attachments asking me to answer questions about their websites (basically working for free!)

I've had enough - here I am looking for honest work and people are getting paid to scam.  What gives?!

I wish the best for you all...Keep your heads up and have faith, nothing is too big for God!!

Good Luck on you job search :)

This is such a scam, even if they don't ask for a credit card number, they are sucking minutes and just taking advantage of people. If an employer is looking to verify information, they will do it themselves!!!!! Seriously people, or if you are still worried about it, call the company that you had just applied for and ask them if they use this! Be smart about it. This is not a lagitamate number.

I just got a call from this company a couple minutes ago; I hung up; wish I would have stayed on the line to ask them to remove my name/number from their list.  Weird thing for me is -- I don't recall every putting my info. "out there" looking for a job; I'm fortunate right now to have a job, but one never knows.  At least I'll know enough not to fall for this scam.  Good luck to all in your job searches.

This is a legitimate company.  I called them back and talked to a guy who led me through a verification process (phone number address etc...)  They did not ask for any crazy stuff like credit card number, account numbers or personal ID stuff.

They didn’t tell me where the job was located, but said it was in my area.  The guy told me after I finished the verification that I would soon receive a phone call for an interview.  It took the company almost a week to get back to me.  Sounds good to me…
