I too got the same call. I looked up the number on a number reversal site. It states that it is a Washington DC land line. That is all the information you could get, without paying for it.

1) The first dead give away would be if they are asking you to pay money, to receive free Government Grants.

2) How many people from India live in DC and work for the US Government, US born citizens have a hard enough time getting a job working for the US Government!

3) If "YOU" had been chosen by the US Government to receive a grant, they would most certainly already have your full name, DOB, SS#, and street address.

Caller claims he was from the US Government Grants Dept. that I chosen to receive a $7000 of grant money to be used for education, home improvement etc. He did provide a Grant ID #.  The reason why I was selected, Caller said, is that "I was in good standing as a civilian and had no criminal records" and I should phone Senior Manager Brian Young at 202-407-9112 to claim it. When I looked where the call was coming from, my cell indicated Sprint Operator "0" and that call was placed on Today at 1:36pm.  Caller wanted how do I want the money to be sent, Check, Direct deposit, credit card or cash card.  I cleverly said Cash.  So then then wanted to verify my name.  I quipped, "If you are the US Government, then you already have all of my information?"  Caller, with a unique foreign accent, said nervously that he just wanted to verify my name.  I did provide that and requested the address.  The replied:  200 Independence Ave, what sounded as Tripple Edge Building, Washington DC and could not hear the zip code so I requested it.  He hesitated and i could hear someone in background telling him the zip.  Caller repeated 20201.  Caller that I note that many others people have qualified for that same grant and when I call, it may be a while to get through. I should keep trying until I get through.  I thanked him and hung up all the while writing all the info on the back on a envelope.  What I do recall, is that there were no interruptions while I was speaking to this caller such as other calls coming in, texts alerts or email alerts.

I called Sprint's Call Center operator from my Android immediately after and reported the 202# call.  My log indicated that I called Sprint at 1:52pm.  The female operator  I spoke to confirmed that it was not Sprint and it is not part of the company's practices. As I spoke to her I had my phone directory's log to identify that the Caller did call at 1:36pm and it clearly states from Sprint Operator "0".  I was provided the number I spoke to prior to the "202 call" which was legitimate because i called it at 2:16pm today.  I called Sprint Call Center again at 2:20pm to make sure that the "202 Call" time was indeed 1:36pm and it was.  I then called the 202 # which Caller gave to me at 2:46pm and the phone rang about 5 or 6 times, no answer.

Beware of calls about this number and double check also where call is originating from.

These people are criminals, most likely in another country.  It's called a 202 scam.  You won't get the money back and now your phone number is on a list, they'll try to scam you again and again.

Can anyone tell me more about this con? He took money from my barely adult 18 yr old and said it would be 6 months before she could ask for the money to be returned.  I wonder if Western Union has any issues with dealing with a fraud.  I think a civil suit needs filed!  Does anyone know if Ryan Young is his real name?  And is he really living and working out of the district of Columbia(Washington)?  I have left messages but no return phone call.   If anyone can assist me with the details I would be greatly appreciative.
thank you for your time.

1-202-407-9112  Caller claims that I qualify for $7000 of grant money "because I pay my taxes on time", and I should phone Ryan Young at 202-407-9112 to claim it.  Caller didn't even ask for me by name, seemed to be content to make the offer to whoever answered.

Is this a real grant money from the us goverment?.  District Of Columbia (Washington)

Non-profit Organization
The so called "Federal Grant" organization that is calling people from a 202 number out of Washington D.C. called me today. They are also using this number 202-407-9112. The guy sounded Indian and was very creepy asking me personal questions and acting obviously strange. Don't trust these guys for one second!!!

I am going to start an investigation into their sceem.
