*sigh* it's our temporary nuisance, but it's their, um, longer, karma. Shame on the bosses who set up these schemes and to the programmers who make it work.

I keep receiving calls from this number saying "this is your second and final notice to lower your credit card bills..." it ends with "press 1 now to get more details about this important offer." there is no option offered to be removed from the calling list.  if you press anything other than 1 it just hangs up.  I tried calling them back, but they won't answer their phone.

I don't answer, they don't leave a message.  Called ID says Washington, DC so I don't know who's calling.
The number of unsolicited calls I get each week is ridiculous!  The do not call list is a joke - it doesn't stop anything.  Isn't there someone who can get these to stop?

Washington, DC on the caller ID.  This is a new but just as irritating as all the others I keep getting.  I don't answer, they don't leave a message!  It's ridiculous that we have to put up with this crap.  Someone should be able to stop these unsolicited calls!

I received a call from "Unknown Caller, 202-454-9999" on June 17, 2013, 9:23 a.m., PT. Area code 202 is Washington, D.C. A recording stated something about how often the "senior population" falls and that a "new program" was in place to "keep seniors safe." Blah, blah, blah, something about a "free medical" something or other, then it cut off with no warning. I called back to tell them to take me off their call list; however, there was no answer, even after it rang at least 20 times. It eventually cut me off automatically. My assumption is that it's a scammer who is, frankly, not very good at scamming. But they're certainly experts when it comes to annoying the hell out of people.

I get many calls from this number.  Probably the same company that scammed my parents for $99 per month racket (directly out of their checking account) for a medical information system that could be accessed online (I went to the page....there is nothing there but a site page....when I tried to go further, my computer warned me that it could be a virus.)  When I called the number and asked them to cancel the service, no one ever called back after the first time.....definitely a scam....my parents don't even own or know how to use a computer.  It was probably something my mom signed up for in the mail.  My folks have been bilked out of $5-6K last year by jokers like these.....the bank wouldn't help me.....we just had to close their acct twice.  All their credit cards were compromised.  They were getting and accepting calls from Jamaica, so we had to cancel their phone.  Rackets like these prey on the elderly. Reported this company to the BBB....they did nothing.  Reported it to the police, who had a stern talk with my parents, telling them they were giving their money to support drugs, prostitution and other criminal activities.  EVERYONE needs to be aware of these scammers and do everything in our power to shut them down....I agree with Also Harassed....my mom's favorite quote (when she was still coherent) "All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing".

Some years ago, I worked for a firm that sometimes called prospects to see if they were interested in our services. It was a STRICT rule in our office that no calls would be made until you had checked both the State and Federal DNC lists. This was done via computer and cost nothing. The problem lies with the scammers who ignore the lists, and with the phone companies who make it easy for these scum to avoid identification by the law. If you seriously want to hurt these people, there are two options: !) Contact your state & local elected officials and DEMAND that they pass legislation which makes it easier to track down and prosecute these scammers. 2) Take the time to report these scummers to your State AG's office. In Missouri, I have just been told, you can call 1-866;BUZZOFF to report nuisance calls that violate the DNC list. I have not yet tried it, but you must be patient; the law can sometimes take a long time to work. In any event, taking NO action is guaranteed NOT to work.

When receiving calls like this , answer them, give the person the hardest time you can, DO NOT threaten them with any kind of violence, the key to this is take up as much of their time as you can. Do Not  give them any personal information, not even a fake age, address or anything, just give them the rudest phone conversation that you can.   Just received a call from 202 - 454 - 9999, the so called free medical alert device. I kept this joker on the phone for almost 30 mins before he finally hung up. He tried to claim he had not only voice recordings of me, but also video, proving that I was old enough to receive his device, I had no idea that a 28 year old qualified for such things, according to him I was between 75 and 80 years old.

Some of you people need to get some facts straight before flying off the handle, and posting garbage.

1. The do not call list only works with legitimate companies, and is not a fraud.
2. Obviously this is an auto dialer. Nothing can stop auto dialing. The fact that it is an auto dialer usually means its a scam.
3. The reason no one picks up the phone when you call back is because it IS a scam.

The simplest thing to do is either block the number with your phone service. If your phone service does not have blocking then dont answer calls from numbers you dont know.

No matter what, everyone gets these kinds of calls every once in a while. Dont panic, do cry about the Do not call list, just dont answer the phone. The scam will usually run a few weeks before they have to move the act to a new location.

Once again, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO STOP AUTO DIALERS. So stop complaining about the government, and the Do not call list.

Just received a call from this number, when asked to have this number taken off their list, the man on the other end told my wife he knew he a the correct household, and the correct person that he was trying to connect. My wife kept insisting that he was incorrect, his reply was he knew because he had a video of the individual and knew who he was talking to.   When I took the phone and tried to talk to this person he quickly hung up. Since when to telemarketers go around and make videos of their potential customers? and do they think by calling people lairs, do they think that they are going to sell something.  I have reported this number to the State Attorney Generals Office , more people need to start doing this in order for these scams to stop.

The  DO NOT CALL LIST IS A FRAUD.  The robocall centers are actually computers calling you to sell you a scam. Its not only area code 202. but 703-646-0491 which says Virginia, 313-001-2001  which says Michigan, 813-202-0123 which says AMEYO which tells you that burgulars are in your area and wants to give you a FREE security systen, 914-294-2500 wnich says MOD, march of dimes but not really,  616-613-2126 which says credit card services which will give you a credit card with lower interest-about 30%
If you don't personally know the caller don't answer the phone.  If it is a legitimate caller they will leave a message.
REMEMBER: DON'T ANSWER, DON'T PRESS ANYT BUTTONS ON YOUR PHONE NO MATTER WHAT THEIR INSTRUCTIONS ARE, NEVER ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION AS THIS MEANS THAT EVENTUALLY THEY WILL SCAM YOU, AND NEVER SAY THE WORD "YES" TO THESE PEOPLE AS THEY CAN SAY THAT YOU TOLD THEM YES AND ORDERED A $8000 SECURITY SYSTEN

She fell off the chair laughing at YOU.  All of you people should read the other messages--THE DO NOT CALL LIST IS A FRAUD.  tHE REAL DO NOT CALL LIST MUST BE PURCHASED FROM EVERY STATE IN THE uNITED sTATES AND THE fEDERAL gOVERNMENT.  iT CHANGES DAILY.  Think about it--How in the world would the insurance man in the next state know you are on the do not call list. NEVER press any button on the phone-It just lets the call know that you might be interested in their scam.  They make millions of call each day and do not call to see if you are home or not to break in.  Ignore the calls and get on with your life.

Their call centers ONLY MAKE OUT GOING CALLS.  You can call all day and WASTE YOUR TIME--incoming calls are not accepted and the ringing phone is only a recording that you are listening to.

Same comments as above about this being a call for an emergency medical alert system for seniors.  When prompted I pressed "1" to learn if this program was available in my area.  After a few rings a female voice answered and I yelled "I've fallen and I can't get up!".  Made my day.
