I received a call from 9-2283 saying that I would be receiving 10,000 dollar from Federal Government grant and gave me the Grand approved code. He asked me how I want o received money : bank account or check? I denied to give him bank account number. So I said check.- He asked me to donate $400 dollar immediately from western union. I declined every thing he said. He said to call him back tomorrow in this number:.202-436-9601

Same just happened here, who are these people? am looking up Gov.stuf to find out more,Also said no

Just had a call from 202-470-0647 - supposedly from the National Grant Headquarters - saying that I was to receive a $5,000 grant.  The caller identified himself as Victor Adams.  He asked for birthdate, last 4 numbers of my drivers license, and then proceeded to try to get my banking information.  As much as I'd like the $5,000 to be real, I rather doubt it.  I said "no", thank you, and hung up.

I reciveed a call saying that i can get a grant for 10,000 dollars but i had to send 250.00 than the Lie changed to 25,000 and that when i founded out what he was doing that when I say Im going to put the State and it so im telling Call The SATE

A gentleman  with a thick middle eastern accent called me on my cell phhone from a similar # - 202-436-9032 stating I was picked to receive a free $5,000. Government Grant that never had to be paid back. He said it was because their records indicated I and my family have paid our taxes correctly and on time for the last 3 yrs.  Then he asked for my Credit Card or Debit Card #. When I asked how I knew he was really with the government and asked for some kind of proof. He said his verification dept. would be calling me with all the details. I placed him on hold and ran a White pages reverse search on the number. No name was listed it only stated it was a land line from Washington, DC. I then ran a google search for ( $5000. Goverment Grant Phone scam ) and came up with several listings with the number 202-470-0647 which was extremely similar. I hung up on him, then he called back and I cursed him out and hung up. He then proceeded to call my office.

I've been called twice from an Indian sounding man with all too much American sounding name telling me that because I paid my taxes, I was entitled to $3,000. He just needed to verify my information and asked for my back account number. The first time he called I asked him where he was calling from. He said Washington D.C.. So I asked him what time it was there. It took him 15 seconds to come up with the wrong answer -- only on hour ahead of my time zone and it should have been three hours. I laughed and said "wrong answer", and hung up. Then he called again about 4 weeks later. After I kept asking him probing questions he hung up. I almost look forward to the next call to jerk him around a bit.

I also received a call for a 5000 grant. I asked for a number to call back was given 2024700666. Both people had an indian accent. I refused to give information, since they had the wrong address. I hope someone can stop tis

Man called and mom told him we were not interested.  If it smells like a fish, it is fishy!!!

I got a call from Rob....He verifie my address and I stopped short when he wanted my date of birth.  Once he confirmed my info he was going to transfer me to another department so my money could be in the bank tomorrow.  I told him it sounded like crap.  He gave me a number to call 202-609-7721 and also an address:  4015 Grant Street NE in Washington DC.  I told him I needed to look into this because I've been paying taxes for over 20 years and there is no reason they should need this info.  I hung up and 1 minute later he called back with a web site:  www.grants.gov.  I went to this site and called their toll free number and she confirmed that the government does NOT make these type of calls.  And after reading this site I know even better.  Please call the Attorney Generals office to file a complaint!!

I got the 5000 grant scam, and he said he worked for the government and I could trust him cause he was calling from Washington DC. So I asked which state Washington DC was located in and he said that didn't matter. Then I asked who the President of the United States was, and he told me he was a government employee and he was an adult and I didn't need to treat him like a child. It was quite humorous.

JAMES Called and told me that I had been given a grant from the US treasurey. $5000.00. It was free.
All he needed was my SS number.

Received call at work from this number. Caller was in call center from sound of many people on phones in background. Claimed to be from the US Government, when I asked which agency, he said Department of Grants. Said up to 25,000 people were qualified and would receive grants, and I was one of them. Then started asking qualifying questions: do I have a bank account, have I paid taxes past two years, am I a US citizen. His line went dead before he got to the good stuff - identity and account numbers, which I would not have answered but wanted to glean as much as I could from him before saying "no."

I received a call from a guy with an Indian accent stating that the government gives out millions of government grants to people that are paying their taxes on time. I asked why me. Th guy stated because I didnt owe the governmnet and I was randomly selected this year. I asked for his name, number, and employee ID. He gave me Steve Jones,209-624-8480, and ID AN2550. I also asked for a confirmation after I gave him a bogus account, he gave  me AS8600052. I also asked when will the funds be deposited, he told me 24hrs. I wanna know how come this guy hasnt gotten caught.

Received a call stating that husband qualified for a free grant and they had my current address, the mans name was Jim.  I hung up the phone and he called back and left a message on my answering machine "Hi my name is Jim you are qualified for a grant please call back as soon as possible and ask for Steve my supervisor.  No one gets money for free just because you are a US citizen!

I received a phone call from a man who said that he was from the U.S.Government, and there was a grant worth twenty five thousand dollars in my name.I advised the caller to supply me with a call back number to verify that he was working for the Government.I had difficulty understanding what he was saying,as he spoke in a heavy accent,probably from India or Packistan. The call back number that he gave was 202-470-0647, I ran the number through Google search--- and it looks like a scam.NO---IT IS A SCAM!!!!! Lenny.  June 5 2009

Called here wrong #, looking for someone else, then asked if I was interested, in the 5k goverment grant, heavy foreign accent.

Person with Indian accent gave number and told my husband to call back...said he was eligible for $5,000 grant.

Same thing happened to me! It seems that this has been going on for awhile. Same person called me Victor Adams, and his supervisor was Steve Dux. asked for me DL number and Birthdate then asked for bank info. Said they were with National grants department and gave me this website: www.grant.gov. Said that I was selected from an In house survey.

Was called from this number 1-202-470-0647. Some guy called me by the name of Victor Adams(with asian accent)and asked for the last 4 digits of my drivers license and birthday so I gave it to him. He already had my address. He said that I would get 5,000 grant money I asked for a website and he gave me this one: www.grant.gov I asked to speak with his superviser and then Steve Dux came on the phone. I hope they cannot scam me with the information I gave them. I should have just hung up.

A man name Steve with an Indian accent called and told me I had received a $5,000 grant. He was extremely rude and got mad when I would not give him my social. Sounded suspicious so I hung up. I called the FAFSA people and they said that is not about how they do business. 15 minutes later he called with the same offier for my mom. I would like to bust him, as he is rude and trying to scam people but not sure how.

I've received two messages on my cell phone concerning this.  The man who left the first message had such a heavy accent that I couldn't understand so I deleted it.  The second one I received, a few weeks later, said the following word-for-word (in an accent as well):  "Hi Matt this is Steve.  I'm calling you from the grants department to inform you that your name has been qualified to receive the government grant money of $5000 from the federal government.  To receive your grant check, call us back as soon as possible at 202-470-0647, I repeat 202-470-0647, and ask for Steve.  Thank you and have a great day."  I don't like the fact that he knew my first name!

Sitting in school and got a call from that 202-470-0647 number right. I call it back and "Steve" said i was able to get this grant for $5,000. Now I know there are scams but Im not even In my twenties yet so i had no clue what was going on. Then he started to ask about bank account info, told him i didnt have one then he asked if my family had one. I wasnt too sure as to what was going  on so i talked to my councler. I googled the number and low and behold found this website. I now know that it was a scam good thing i didnt give out a whole lot of personal info. Hopefully i dont get Identity theft though :/

I also recvd a call from some dude saying i got a $5000 waiting on me...i was like ok when can i have it.. He was asking for all these info about my account and credit card number. So i gave him some old card i had laying down some where. after that he said i would have to make a small deposit of $150, once he said that i ask him, why cant u take it out the grant im recvding, he then said something so i hung up. Dont trust these ppl's

got a call on office phone number stating got a $5000.00 grant and stated his name was victor adams. starting asking for personal information and I asked him to email me the information of how I got the grant etc. Gave him an email address i use for such "questionable" inquiries. interested if he actually sends anything

some indian dude called me and said i was to receive a $5000 grant. i barely understood him and his name was rictor adam. He wanted me to make a $150 deposit to receive my "grant." I was so suspicious that i wanted some information through the mail and he kept refusing. I also kept questioning him about how would i know this is the federal government and he eventually got mad and said just give us a call back if you are interested.
