I also got a call from a Mr. "Gary Gaylor"(Gaylord) telling me that I had received a Government grant for 8400. I wasn't thinking at the time, and agreed. I was told I needed to pay a one time fee of 214 for charity. I went the Western Union and obtained a blank pay form. I returned to work and called back. Upon telling "Gary" that I was not at the Western Union, he proceeded to yell at me. I responded by telling him I would contact him after I finished work and he agreed. I started to feel uneasy about the whole thing, and decided to google it. I typed in "receiving calls from the government about a free grant" and a governmental fraud website popped up. I called the number and filed a report against "Gary". When I got home, I gave "Gary's" # to my brother, and he proceeded to feed "Gary" the same bs he told me. My brother called several others times harassing him. I would have liked to have the money offered, but I do not take kindly to people screwing me over when my life has already sucked so much. I hope justice is served and this kind of thing is ended so people can live their lives peacefully. I did cancel my card before he could take any of my money.

"there's no funds on it" suggests it's a debit or prepaid card.
If a debit card, you MUST tell your bank what happened and get it replaced because it's connected to your checking account.
If a prepaid card, you can let it go or throw the card away. If you add money to it in the future, you run some risk the scammer can empty it before you can spend it.

I just received this same phone call as you Mizzman - Same "David Johnson" to call to confirm my grant.  As soon as I told him I didn't want it, he hung up immediately.  Knew it was too good to be true.  What's weird is that they had my home address and called me at work.  Creepy

So I just got a call from these people saying my name and number was randomly selected to receive a grant of $8400. Last time I checked you didn't have to pay a dime to receive a grant. They must think I'm dumb lol.

Forget to mention, I am located in Kansas City, Missouri. Also, that the number "Charlene Lewis" called from was marked as a "Private Number", even by White Page's "Current Caller ID".

Got this call today from "Charlene Lewis" telling me that I've been selected as a recipient for a US Grant because I've always paid my taxes on time, etc. I advised "Charlene" that this doesn't make any sense at all, and asked about payback. "Charlene" told me that it is a reward and gave me a confirmation number and another phone number and name to call back. I was supposed to speak with David Johnson when I call back. I called this number and spoke with "David Johnson", and he informed me of a one time $205.00 lifetime membership fee that was for a charity and I would never have to pay it again. He told me I needed to go to Western Union and pay this money to a location to be named later, a country to be named later, a charity to be named later, and a city code to be named later. By later, he was referring to the moment before I walk into the Western Union to pay for the transfer. It all sounded too good to be true. Now that I have seen this stream of comments and stories, those thoughts are strengthening. I advised this "David Johnson"(the quotes are because I do not believe these are their real names due to their extremely thick accents) that I do not have the money to just throw out there like that. He responded telling me that I have 15 days to claim this "reward" and to call this number back. I'm thinking about getting the government(cyber crimes) involved and moving forward with this. Who's in?

I just posted the one above this. I also wanted to add that when I told the guy that I'm not paying a "one time fee" of $205 to receive this $8400 because it sounds like a scam, I got yelled at and told "Shut up, this is a recorded call..." I immediately hung up!

Got a call from this number. Tried it. I got stuck on hold for almost 30 minutes. I finally hung up. I was told the same thing... $8400 from the government because I don't have a criminal background and I have severe debt and I've never been late on bills. What I want to know... How the Hell do they know any of this!? I hung up and googled the number and got this page. I definitely would not try it!

Received a call that I got awarded an $8400 grant that i did not have to pay back from a NY state bank. They want to know what you will use it for so that you wont "misuse it". Apparently you can only waste this money on school, bills, or a car for transportation. They ask for a card number to directly wire the money to you & say it will take 40-45 min before you can call a guy called David Johnson & give him your grant approval number.

Seems really fishy and not too professional, but then again most of the city employees aren't the nicest and tend to be a bit rude. When I asked how I got selected he said it was because I haven't been convicted, had severe debt, and paid my taxes/bills at "the right time".

Aren't grants only given to students anyways?
My suggestion is dont go for it
