I should also mention that the scammer called me on a Saturday. Federal government agencies such as the IRS are closed on the weekend so that should have been an immediate tip-off.
Anna 2014-04-28 17:35:26 Unknown
I got a call 2 days ago and two more calls today from 202-506-9141, all of which went to voicemail. A heavily-accented Indian man claiming to be Officer JK from the IRS addressed me by my full name and told me to call him back at 202-506-9060 about some issues with my income tax. I could barely make out what he was saying through his thick accent.
This scammer was sneaky enough to use the 202 Washington, D.C. area code, but I know the IRS would probably not call without first sending out a letter in writing. BEWARE this scammer, for he or his organization are likely trying to use the IRS's clout to gain access to sensitive personal information. ALWAYS BE CAREFUL before giving out your SSN, address, etc.

Why doesn't a police fraud unit investigate this issue? The call is from arear code 202, can't they trace the phone number to an address?
Damian Marshall & Brian Cruz 2014-04-03 16:32:48 Unknown
Today (4/3/2014) I received a called from a person called Brian Cruz, with a "pretend" Spanish accent, claiming that he is an IRS officer (self disclosed IRS Id#4315960), and that I had a tax issue with my last year's tax return. Therefore I should immediately called his manager, Damian Marshall (which I mistook to be "Demon Marshall" because of his accent), at the IRS phone number 202 506 9166, to have it resolved. It is obviously a fake, because he could not provide any genuine proof. I use their names on the heading line to help identification. Some scammers are so idiotic thinking that they can continue to fool others.

I too just got a call from this number leaving a message on my home phone. Saying he was Tom Black from investigation department of the IRS. I am to return his call immediately about my taxes. He indicated that it was extremely urgent that I call him back before any litigation takes place. he also said he didn't care take information about my excuses. He could barely speak English.

Scam for sure.
I got a message from a "Ben Smith" representing the IRS. I did not call back. I did report the number to IRS.gov and FTC.gov.

Some one with a deep accent called me over 40 times (counted on my call log) this morning saying they were from the IRS trying to get information from me, threating me with arrest and other unpleasant things. I told them they were a scam but a number of different people with the same deep accents continued to call me back. Most of the calls went unanswered. Finally, when they asked for me again...I said..I am so sorry she has passed away. The voice on the other end got very emotional saying "Oh my God" more than several times and telling me "She was my friend" I asked if he knew her from church?" He wanted to know who I was and I told him I was her daughter and suppled him with a fake name when he asked. The call then ended very quickly and I have not received additional calls. Next time I will ask for a donation to the American Cancer Society or the SPCA in my memory.

Martha Torres 2014-04-01 13:18:10 Unknown
Received a call from someone with an indian accent 4/1/2014. Claimed that I had a deficiency with my income tax and that I should call Daman Marshall at 202 506-9166. I was suspect from the start but I made the call only to speak to someone who wanted to verify my home and cell phone numbers, amongst other things. I said no, he hung up.

I received a call at 7pm from (202) 506-9141. A man with a very heavy Indian accent claiming his name was " Mr. Johnson" and asking if I have a criminal attorney...said I would need one because I had not filed my income tax for several years ( I have) and gave me a case number and another number to call (202) 506-9060. I told him if this were really the IRS they would send a formal letter in the mail, not have a man who barely speaks English call on their behalf. He then claimed he would put the charges thru, I said, " If the IRS had charges against me, talking to you wouldn't change that. Come and arrest me" . I ran a reverse trace online and found the numbers were from an AT&T cell phone. To confirm it was a scam, I called Turbo Tax and they said there was nothing wrong with my filing. Total scam guys... please be careful what information you provide. Don't be fooled!

I got a call from 202-506-9166 stating they were with the IRS and that I was found to have defrauded the federal government and had ignored their letters and did not live where i told them i did. When I told him i would get a written statement from my mail carrier he started yelling at me that he was sending the police right over to arrest me and hung up!

This number just called us also. Heavy, heavy accent & couldn't say our last name right. Claimed to be IRS with charges against us. We have some IRS numbers we call when we have questions or business to work out with them and it isn't a number like this one! Totally a scam!
linda 2014-03-28 19:24:19 Unknown
Got the same call, told him to f---ing not call because I know its a scam.
plh 2014-03-28 16:17:53 Unknown
I received a call from some "Investigation Bureau" but to be honest, could hardly understand him with his heavy accent. Also, don't have any debts/issues with the IRS.

Same thing on my cell phone from number 202-506-9166 1103am from Washington DC is what it says on display then a man with thick indian accent leaves message to call him now, right now that he is with IRS and has to talk to me right now he could not even pronounce half the words it was like he was computerized or something, could not even understand half the words he was saying---Scamming Scum!!

My call, same #, March 28 ~ 0900 Eastern, was from "Jason Stewart, IRS", same thick Indian/Pakistani accent which made it difficult to understand. He had the audacity to leave a message on my VM, which I interrupted w/ a piece of my mind. I would advise it's probably VERY dangerous to make a call back to their tel. #. I've seen news reports that they can then "seize" your
# and use the connection to charge all sorts of their toll calls, and maybe worse.
Anna 2014-03-27 17:21:26 Unknown
I received multiple calls this morning from this number. I even got a message left at one point. Something about needing to call back because the IRS and a lawyer needed to talk to me. I though it was a wrong number because they left the message for Ashley, not Anna - they called me at my place of work.

Got this exact same message from Paul Brown. Amazing what people do to deceive others.
Freaked out at first, then smelled SCAM 2014-03-26 00:05:46 Unknown
Just got a very similar message today, 3/25/2014, only it was "Jason Roberts", of the Investigation Bureau of the I.R.S, requesting I or my duly appointed attorney call him back due to an extremely urgent matter. Also heavily accented, and also had to listen to it a few times to get what he was saying. At first, really I freaked at the mention of IRS (who doesn't?) but as I listened to it, something didn't feel right. Luckily I had screened the call, and typed in "202-506-9166 IRS" on Google, which surprisingly led me to this site, where seemingly everyone had the same experience! Thanks to the folks who set up this post. I vaguely remember hearing a blurb about this scam on the news, and I do know the IRS usually sends USPS letter first, then if you do ignore, you get subsequent letters, after which, you get a visit from the suits with briefcases. THAT is way scarier than any scam!

Received a call Tuesday @ 8.51am Male with heavy Indian Accent Named as Jason Stewart 2025069166
IRS INCOME TAX INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT in Washington DC ,
Said I have not Reported my Income Taxes Fully for last year.
So I told him normally IRS always sends out in writing with any tax returns issues which I expect
to receive for any issues on my Tax Returns.
Why he was calling from Washington DC as I do not File over there as my are done in California so I
started asking him more questions with a response from him getting more aggressive towards me and call his Senior
Officer Damon Marshall on 2025069166 Immediately or face legal action from IRS as was asking too many questions repeatedly so will hung up now which he did.
So called the # as given with no answer and voice mail message box full and cannot leave any messages or call back later again (Did Call Twice) same thing.
Fact is I have not filed my last years taxes yet which created a concern so investigated further and came across this Scam Issues So Beware.....
